I believe this album was released to round out his repertoire while embracing the parts of himself that he can’t change. He’s West Coast through and through and he’s celebrating in a light-hearted way with his whole chest. He’s still deep while sounding like he’s partying when he uses specific…
… cultural elements that represent where he’s from. This decision to be light hearted is evident when he chooses to make his titles lowercase instead of all caps. This album is a different feel on purpose, and I see all sports organizations using some of these tracks in the background. He also…
… has the Super Bowl halftime show to think about, and he’s definitely gonna premiere some of these tracks live, and I bet SZA will perform with him as well. I also want to put this on the record here so people can see it from me first…
I believe that Snoop Dogg will do a his performance for the LA Olympics and hold the torch. He will then pass the torch to Kendrick Lamar in the Olympics as he did when he passed the torch to Kendrick in hip hop.
I love a surprise album. Much more accessible I think than Mr Morale. Feels like an ode to LA and I imagine those from that area feel very hype about it. Brings back an old west coast vibe and I love that nostalgia. Love that he proves once again he can do EASILY what party rappers do. And better
That’s fair, this is the first Kendrick album where I’ve gone and listened and straight away repeated it though. Usually other albums are more slow burns.
Manages to hit instantly and be pretty much just all bangers but in grandiose fashion, as dense with atmosphere and aura as his work usually is with layers of meaning. GOAT 🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐
Give it a 7.5 out of 10. Doesn’t reach the heights of DAMN. Reincarnated and the heart part 6 are the highlights, up there with his best tracks but may not break through to the mainstream.
I put this above Mr Morale but below Section.80. Solid overall
I like TPAB. I love Damn. Mr. Morales is coo to me. But this, I don’t know if it’s first listen or if I just don’t like cali music fr (cause it’s mainly that) but I’m not fwi. It don’t sound like he took no time fr on these songs.
It feels like a mixtape out of left field. As a fan, I'm looking for a concept and a storyline but it just seemed like he wanted to get some things off his chest rq. I like that reincarnated and man in the garden though. They stand out as album material imo.
Finally somebody with a real opinion and not just “for the love of Kendricks legacy” . I don’t think this album was a hit. I think you said it perfectly, he had some shit he wanted to get off his chest, a producer he’s comfortable with and a lot to say. This was rapping but the artistry wasn’t there
Most Dot albums are slow burners. TPAB and GKMC are my favourite records of all time but they took a while to get there. This immediately grabbed my attention and I loved it which is a crazy new vibe from him. It’s so versatile for him as an artist. I honestly love it.
As a long term big Kendrick fan, definitely not my favorite album. But that’s okay. A few songs I really liked! It’s rare for me to like all songs off someone’s album anyway.
A fun and much-needed addition to his discography. The rest of his discography has been a lot more overtly conceptual, as he has worked through different perspectives from his youth all the way to now. I like this much more light-hearted approach to this album, it’s very self-assured and confident…
…contrasting the unresolved feelings he expresses in albums like TPAB, DAMN, and Morale. He seems more comfortable in his contradictions, and that he has nothing to prove. As a long-time Kendrick fan, this WILL be on repeat!
100% agree - although I’m curious if the rumors about this being a “mixtape-like project” are true and we’ll get another drop before the end of the year 🤞🏽
It’s overrated and people are really just Drake/Nicki/Lil Wayne/Young Money/ East Coast haters lmaooooo ! It’s really just clout chasing but at least hes being consistent this time around! He needs to thank YMCMB & OVO! Don’t forget that tour Drake took you on @kendricklamar.bsky.social

I put this above Mr Morale but below Section.80. Solid overall
