The lake is named for the beautiful princess Gile, just to the left of the road are 2 Cairns, the graves of Omra & Romra the Romulus and Remus of Sligo who slew each other in combat, Gile on seeing her father and lover dead, killed herself and the lake was formed from the tears of her grieving maid
