Relihas not been that, it has provided succor for people to get through existence. The justification for suffering and oppression has been othering ie tribalism
No, the justification has been religion. Or if you prefer, religious othering: tribalism masquerading as religious...evangelism? My-way-or-the-die-way preaching? I stand by my statement. Spirituality might be good, but religion is not.
Umm...yikes. I was raised Catholic and steeped in strict Christianity for two decades. I've always been a logical thinker; I managed to escape the indoctrination of my Christian upbringing. One can have a moral compass without being a holier than thou, judgmental, pompous jerk.
I'm certain you and other artists have done positive things with your craft on this work and have reason to be proud.
But I have a hard time supporting Christian messaging and film until more Christians stand up for diverse people and follow the actual teachings of Jesus.
You don't have to watch obviously.
Its a story about a good person, fake or not and sane people know the story of Jesus should not be linked to the fake Christian movement.
They obviously are trying to re-appropriate it but they misconstrue what Jesus believed. Their actions are different.
I won't - but I can share a perspective on why it's a difficult time for many Americans to see a progressive voice like Mark Hamill come out swinging for Jesus.
I agree with you that people are not following Jesus's teachings. But if say, Buddhists started divisively "othering" people in the name of Buddha, would you feel a little weird about seeing a movie about him put prominently in the mainstream? Or would you hope more Buddhists realigned before then?
He can be progressive and love Jesus. I have no idea as to his faith, but if that's it then wonderful. He's a Christian actually following what Jesus taught.
Some of us Christians are [LGBTQ+ and allies], and we are trying to fight the awful “Christian” nationalism that poisons Christ’s message. You and your family are loved.
🌈❤️🧡💛💚💙💜🩷🩵
I appreciate it. I know it's not all, I know some have found the balance between faith and LGBTQ rights.
But at the same time I've had Christians comment *directly* to me on my marriage to a woman that they "hate the sin but love the sinner" or that it should be called a "civil union."
Jesus was woker than woke. I don’t like the studio that put out this film, but would give the benefit of the doubt that the empathy Jesus wanted for the stranger would resonate. Maybe even flip over some tables at the temple to kick out those who claim to be Christian.
Your incredible, loving family is an incredible, loving family‐or so I assume. I don't like, look through your window or shit-not a family who pulls out the "perfect family" costume for church, but ho boy behind closed doors, everyone hates everyone & dads cheating...
I'm in Mass. I'm on a pride committee here. We have partnered fiscally with a local Episcopal Church. They are working very hard to make the LGBTQ community understand that they're welcome & supported. Other churches are beginning to look into duplicating our example in an effort to do the same.
Not just some. Real Christians know God's message of love. It's heartbreaking that some bad apples, so-called "Christians," twist religion to suit their own aims, as well as bad actors (like Trump and others in MAGA) who are NOT Christian but pretend to be to mislead naive followers.
Thanks, Mark. Please ignore people saying they are disappointed in you. I'm a true Christian who follows God and Jesus according to the Bible. I believe people have the right to see this movie or NOT. My grandkids are excited to see this movie for Easter. Thanks so much for sharing it with us!
There's surprisingly quite a few respected actors in this thing. Hey to each their own but super disappointing. Meanwhile there's a genocide raging in Palestine. Religion is where humanity goes to die.
The theme of the film is fine, there are many movies picturing different religious beliefs.
I hope you know about "Angel Studios" and the movie "Sound of Freedom" though, seems contradictory to be so against MAGA and Trump while people doing movies there are supporting and contributing to that.
For the people who this is aimed for sure go for it but I'm not that group. it might hammer in what these people have forgotten about the religion they have chosen or that's been chosen for them. I'm not going to stop them from watching it I'm not going to condemn them for watching it
Awesome! I will share for anyone who may like a good read that this reminded me of: Lamb, by Christopher Moore. (Aka The Gospel According to Biff, Christ childhood pal)
A way to make the stories resonate with modern audiences, have some fun, and look at Jesus as someone more like us than we realize
I believe in science. Just seeing into our galaxy knowing it’s only 1 of 100B galaxies revealed by Hubble.
And knowing it takes a minimum of 10,000 years for fossil fuel to form.
The crust of our earth dates it to 4.5B years old and was not created in 6 days & 6 nights.
Mundus Sine Caesaribus
(and if Jesus was ever a real person opposing the shit y'all say he does, he would be fucking embarrassed by every alleged Christian mother Teresa included)
Fun fact: if you ask them, they'll say you are definitely the one who's wrong, you're not Christian and don't speak, look or behave like a real Christian. Aren't amazing, religions?
I'm not promoting religion btw. I'm just pointing out their utter hypocrisy. It angers me that they have weaponized and forged their brand of fake Christianity and use the bible only when they want to twist it to justify their hatred of brown people and LGBTQ+ people.
Fun fact, IDGAF what they call me. It still doesn't make what they do or say look like true Christianity. Based on their words & actions they reject 100% of HIS teachings that HE, not me, set out for them to follow in the new testament. His instructions are not debatable nor up for interpretation.
The Christian right ignore one of the core principles of the teachings of Christ: To love thy neighbour as thyself. If they did this, like I try to do, they wouldnt be shipping people off to el Salvador prisons or cutting off their funding. It's that simple: They're not Christians. Very few PPL are.
Until Christianity can say fundamentally dispose of the Old Testiment, and admit it is myth, can you pretend that the "Super Cool Jesus" is the core belief.
Until then, genoicide is ok.
Rape victims forfed to the rapist.
Slavery is ok.
Women must drink shit potions if suspected of cheating.
A movie won't do much, but the left boycotting it will do even less. I am however hoping the right will boycott it because it promotes liberal values, thus proving their hypocrisy. This should be fun.
You mean stop using the New testament of the bible to dictate what Christianity is and isn't. 😂
Oh right, I mean why follow the teachings of Jesus to be called one who follows the teachings of Jesus. Good luck with that.
But they are Christian. It is a myth that leftists Christians say that the right aren’t really Christians. There’s lots in the Bible to support the Christian right in their views. They are just as much Christian as anyone else.
you just need to do 2 things to put your city, county and state on a direct path that would lead to the removal of many trump officals.
1 - get your state fighting for #dueprocess rights of those in your state DOJ / ICE hell STATE DEPARTMENT violated https://bsky.app/profile/jimoberst.bsky.social/post/3lml5o35vfk2s
You live in a country whose religious extremist zealots damaged the country tremendously in a matter of months, and you decided to power their propaganda?
Jesus is white? A white saviour? In the current climate?
Why are you lending your talent to a film that is aiming christian ideology to children at a time when the government - that you claim to be strongly against, btw - is literally implementing a christofascist state?
Seriously? Now is the time to DOWNPLAY and RIDICULE religion for all the shit it's caused over the ages. You're embarrassing yourself if you take part in this.
I follow no religion but my parents are Christian (very progressive and despise the idea of a theocracy) and I think they would like this movie. As for the hate people spitting out on here this is a case where we should separate the art from the artist.
I am immediately skeptical of movies about the life of Christ, and I’m a Christian. (Not THAT kind, I actually believe in grace and mercy.) Are you telling me that this might not be awful?
Nope. Just nope. If we can't "indoctrinate" America's youth to have tolerance, kindness, & acceptance to all then we SHOULDN'T indoctrinate them to this bullshit lie that, literally, never happened.
Empathy & kindness are TANGIBLE behaviors that build up societies. These lies just stoke division.
Infuriating to see respected actors sign on to something that promotes a belief system that "others", minimizes & puts at risk those who don't meet white, christian expectations.
Please stop pandering to this awful, christion nationalist administration.
There is no Obi-Wan Kenobi. Just a battered kettle, a cracked screen, and this tiny rebellion built on punchlines, panic, and stubborn humanity. They only win when we stop saying NO.
You only dug halfway. Angel bought the rights to *distribute* the film November of 2024. This is after Mark recorded his lines for the film. Mofac created and funded this film.
Didn’t really bring politics into it, but I guess simply mentioning their existence is political. I also don’t care about the morality of the church or whatever. I care about and love film, and Mark’s an actor if you can believe it. So I come at this from an artistic point of view, not political.
Sorry Mark, but that's a no from me.
Can't imagine what convinced you to be a part of this project but it's very disappointing as a fan of yours to see this.
Have you sunk so low as to work for Angel Studios, producers of the infamous human trafficking debacle?
Even the marketing bears a strong similarity.
Buyer beware and be aware of where your money is going!
Wow, the hate is strong on this one. Seems Americans cannot distinguish between the man of peace, and the hatred done in His name by bad faith followers.
A divine soul sorceror and a draconic bloodline sorceror are both magic. They just have different origins for their magical powers. I think wild magic is more fun to play, even if it isn't perfectly optimized.
How odd that an animated film extolling the rise of Christ is released in the most unchristian country in the world during a holiday that celebrates the death of that very figure.
Incredibly disappointing, Mark. Making a movie specifically tailored to tell kids the watered down version of the bible, just to pull them into the cult? That's pretty fucked.
I intend to see it. A liberal Catholic ….I loved The Chosen series which was once sponsored by Angel studios. The cast and the love of the story draws me .
More media with Jesus depicted as white to make us white Christians comfortable. Ugh. I know as a Voice Actor, we don’t always get to see the final product before we commit to the project. I get that, but this just feels….icky. 😒
Checking the date… nope not April fools… seriously, the world needs to let go of the Christian mythology and replace it with a more wholesome, sustainable spiritual paradigm. Y’all should be telling Siddhartha’s story. Jesus (I’m saved) allows for too much self-deluding dumb-fuckery!
Ah. Man. This makes me so sad. You've capitulated to the dark side. Oh. I bajillion pagans that have thought of you as...how do I even put it. This might be like when Robin Williams gave up. Smh. Marks the date
Calm down guys, Mark Hamill's always been super appreciative of good quality art and animation. Plus remember Christianity in America isn't the same as actual Christianity that exists outside of America. Though I am interested in his reasoning for this? Maybe hes voice acted here.
That's pretty funny actually, and while I don't like organized religion, I do know that the Christian here in America are far different from the Christians in the EU and other countries that are nothing like the American version. Also I'm sure this project was in the making for years before now.
Definitely in the works for some time, I’m a newer animator and 3D animation is time consuming even for the small scale work I do. Add the scripting and pre/post production, I wouldn’t be surprised if this was first conceived during the pandemic.
I'm sure he couldn't control when this comes out and im sure he agreed to this probably a few years ago, just bad timing and sensitive subject matter ATM.
I do have a special love for Jesus Christ Superstar, but there are most definitely better stories to tell. Still waiting for a less white screen version of that dude.
Thanks, but this is merely making religious indoctrination of innocent children palatable as a cartoon. Religion is harmful enough already without presenting its fables and falsehoods to children as being based on reality! Hook'em while they're young and control them completely!
The last thing America needs right now is more Jesus.
America is going through a de-enlightenment, knowledge and science, and fact are losing out to ignorance and opinion and lies, and all of it is behind a veil of a bizarre pseudo Christian nationalism which is driven by hate and greed.
Just no.
Pretend it's a metaphor. Jesus represents the best of man. God represents humanity. Damn if we don't need a lot more of that and less Republican Jesus. https://youtu.be/SZ2L-R8NgrA?si=IdLGMLQFe7pIh9gQ
But you can't pretend, books are being banned, womens rights in voting and healthcare are being eroded, and it's all part of an insidious creep where church and state no longer stand as two separate pillars of society. I'm not anti faith, I am anti forced doctrine, and we are edging ever closer.
Yes, I agree. But that's like arguing a war movie is promoting a military draft. I seriously doubt this cartoon supports, in any fashion, the erosion of separation of church and state.
I'm sure you know that war movies are almost never made when we are at war.
That's sort of my point, we don't need this, society doesn't need more religion, it needs a reaffirmation of humanity, science, fact and thr importance of knowledge.
If you believe in evolution, you realize we evolved with religion for a reason. Very few cultures, if any, didn't. I think a reminder of what it was meant to represent, not what grifters are using it for, isn't a bad idea.
I would deny that wholeheartedly. The "best of man" doesn't arbitrarily ban divorce, fearmonger about an apocalypse coming soon that never actually does, order people to leave their families and weirdly curse a fig tree for just being a fig tree.
Weirdly? You know the Bible is full of metaphors, right? Let's say that fig tree is Paula Jones, and instead of figs, she's promising 7 blessings, a personal angel, God's wrath on your enemies, and other perks for only $1000. Wouldn't you be upset if she promises fruit you won't get?
The apocalypse came in 70 AD. He warned his followers to run to the hills of Pella when they saw the besieging Roman armies, and they did. He warned about the destruction of Jerusalem and it happened. That's why there was a surge in adherents to "the way" post 70 AD.
I won't lie, Pedro Pascal's boyfriend voicing Jesus did strike me as a bit odd initially.
But why should the Evangelical Right have the market on faith? It seems to me that is how religion, particularly Christianity, got to where it is now. Let's just leave this alone and see how it goes.
It's not the product as such. It's the timing. When books about life and the human condition are being banned in schools and science and fact are being disputed and replaced with what is essential a morality fairytale we should be very, very worried.
This just adds to that cultural vandalism.
There's also intellectual vandalism of free speech. Isaacs, Hammil, Thurman...are smart people & made this film of their free will. Folks will see it also of their free will. The actions of government, removing books even, should never negate that. Violating speech to protest violating speech?
Agreed, I'm not having a dig at the product or those that made it. It's the timing that I find troublesome. Yes, I know it's Easter and all that, but it just feels off, tainted by what is happening and under what guise.
There are Christians out there who are not Christian Nation type people. I prefer Thomas Jefferson version of the Bible the morals of Jesus Christ it keeps out the beginning in the end and just goes in the middle. He he spent most of his life cutting and pasting parts of the New testament.
I agree, but this is not an argument against Christianity this is an argument about the separation of church and state and the insidious creep of religion in wider culture that then allows christo-nationalism to take hold each feeding the other until one day you wake up in Gilead.
Israel's government is full of extremists that want to force Revelation beliefs that the end of the world was coming to an end. that's what these Christian nationalist happen with all the saber rattling going on right now it's starting to look like a lot of armies are going to come to Israel
The Christian extremist are also trying to create an atmosphere in Israel in the Middle East that the end of times are coming at the apocalypse that was in the last chapter of the Bible which is why they support Israel unconditionally supporting them to continue a genocide.
Hi Mark great cast line up and some star wars crossovers too did you know the British Film Institute was showing your original star wars film on the 12th of June without any changes to it. 48 years later.
Financed and affiliated with the Mormons. They don’t look too favorably on people like me. Sorry you made this choice, Mr Hamill, although I still appreciate your politics and your resistance to Trump.
I mean, I won't be watching it. But I also won't be a dick about it. That's an awesome voice cast on a clearly quality production, not some Kevin Sorbo/Mel Gibson straight to Sunday School cringe fest.
Really? Because judging by the trailer it looks EXACTLY like some straight to Sunday School cringe fest. They just had the budget to hire actors with more name recognition than Kevin Sorbo (which isn't hard).
I'd honestly have preferred to see an movie about Charles Dickens writing A Christmas Story... at least then we'd get some commentary about the miserable monied classes. I'll let your fellow VO actor Phil Hendrie explain that one. https://youtu.be/fv7RGAYukiw?si=Sl8tSWhYJOLC9AD3
I know many have a hard time with the concept of Jesus due to the “Christian’s” slandering his name. But the difference is this. He lived his faith. He didn’t preach it. He didn’t use it for $. He was a common man. He was a radical. A part of the resistance. So before bashing, take the story for
I am VERY much a "lapsed Catholic" (told my Dad HELL NO to it at age 16) BUT I will say that Angel Studios made a really nice movie called Cabrini (https://www.angel.com/movies/cabrini). I'm DEFINITELY not into religious movies (or religious anything for that matter) but I surprisingly enjoyed this story.

My family is queer and trans. We have been SEVERELY "othered" by the growing nationalist Christian movement.
But I have a hard time supporting Christian messaging and film until more Christians stand up for diverse people and follow the actual teachings of Jesus.

Which is the *real* sin here?
Those haters are the problem, and those religions that feed their hatred consciously or subconsciously.
Probably not well so it is a good thing that most of us are kinder than they are.
Focusing on remembering phrases in the bible instead of any meaning
I'm not religious, but everyone should be focused on valuing fundamental good beliefs not words on a story/ fake religion
*other fairy stories are available
I hope you know about "Angel Studios" and the movie "Sound of Freedom" though, seems contradictory to be so against MAGA and Trump while people doing movies there are supporting and contributing to that.
Given its location I kind of wish they'd written a new part in just for you. "Mark Camel."
Sorry you've thrown your hat into this organization.
Hope it wasn't because you needed the work.

I realize it’s tough out there. But please. Don’t contribute to Christian Nationalist propaganda aimed at children.
They say the same about you.
Of course the Bible says all the talibani horror shit is the way to go and making a happy go lucky kids movie, isnt going to change it.

When are we going to stop using white people to represent muddle easterners?
We all gotta work. And I'm guessing promoting this on your social media accounts was in your contract.
Reminds me of how rock n' roll used to be counter cultural, but now is the epitome of big business. Conformity, man: hard to escape.
Just my favorite person throwing it all away to make religious propaganda
How much longer until you're wearing a MAGA hat?
Do they have blackmail on you? Skeet twice if you're being held hostage.
