I think we can already award the prize for stupidest Labour MP’s policy proposal. “That thing that destroyed three Tory governments, the thing that if we did it would wreck our economy, let’s do that, in a doomed effort to pose as a knock-off Nigel Farage.”

Seriously, this has to be one of the stupidest things I've heard from a Labour MP in this parliament - and possibly ever.

Pledging these things when no-one believes you’ll do it (in this case, probably fairly) amps up mistrust when you pledge and obviously doubles down when you fail to deliver
At the moment we need people to work in the NHS, Care industry, building and many other areas of the work place.
If our own workforce can't supply enough workers, we give visas to immigrants.
If we don't the economy comes to a juddering halt.
1. Reform curious voters Labour can win back with a Cameron pledge
2. LD/Grn/SNP curious voters already disappointed in Labour who would be alienated by such a pledge

I mean, I feel like I saw similar level stupid stuff at least once a month during the last government.
Quite often from a minister.
Is there any evidence pro-immigration policies are more effective in countering the populist right?

What exactly is hard about this?
If you write those words (you did) then it’s inconsistent at best to believe any government can ignore them.
At yesterday’s #pmqs Starmer cleverly exposed the hypocrisy of Farage and Tice. More of this, please. https://bsky.app/profile/implausibleblog.bsky.social/post/3lhgmwu33322r
This clip is electoral gold dust.
Who are these MPs, I need their names...
