They are software. Not yet AI. They have a deal with ChatGPT. But so does Apple. They don’t have a platform that everyone uses to get information on a daily basis.
If Microsoft was smart they would do all they could to partner with @bsky.app

How do you explain MSFT not participating?

We're talking about building power plants just for data centers and we can't get power to Texas in the winter!
If AI could just do simple shit like time the traffic lights to adjust to the flow of traffic I would be happy.
What the fuck are we supposed to be getting out of it?
Texas refuses to be connected to the grid in a way that allows it.
That's a political decision, not a technology barrier.
Eliminating doctors, artists, customer service operators, retail clerks... and using it to build tools for the military industrial complex.
When they have put everyone out of a job, who will buy their goods?
Problem is, once people are out of jobs they can't buy their fancy gadgets anymore.
The next 10 years will be interesting.
Kicking children out when they're 18, and shoving them in convalescent homes when they're 81.
Some cultures don't go for that shit, and they're better off for it.
LOL
I mean Ai is so much more useful as in “Ai Ai Ai. I hate Ai”.
MS gave them cloud credits and is building out infrastructure to support it. Apple is investing absolutely nothing.
All you need is a giant spider

Everyone would be stymied
in just about no time.
A FEW ACCOUNTS PAYING TO UPLOAD LONGER VIDEOS WON'T DO IT.
Bluesky has stated how they intend to support themselves: APIs and premium service.
User engagement as a product is not on their road map, which is the important thing.
JUST KIDDING, THIS IS BLUESKY AND STILL A FREE COUNTRY!
If you think that Bluesky can support increasing multi-millions of users with a few people paying to post longer videos, and some APIs, I've got a bridge to sell you.
Feels like early Twitter, before the apartheid baby got his sausage fingers not.
Bluesky has a huge leg up in the fact that discovery algorithms are already successfully decentralized (i.e. feeds are mostly not owned by Bluesky).
This is very important because it gives users a good reason to believe that a paid premium service will not operate like the blue checkmark.
At the end of the day, though, Bluesky brings the quality to bootstrap the AT protocol in the way that mastodon didn’t do for activitypub.
And threads isn’t really trying to open up to the fediverse.
That hits on a technical win for atproto, imo, which is that identity is globally scoped.
THEY control the messaging. THEY decide what the truth is.
However, some people say that monopolies are a good thing. Would those industries have been built without them?

"Why create another one?" I'm glad you asked...
The AT Protocol (bsky) has global, portable identities, so that if Bluesky servers become undesirable, you can move.
What is your take on the below? This feels like full-on censorship, in my opinion, and really slippery slope. How is this fixed? Would you get involved at some stage if it gets really out of hand.
We have yet to begin any planning for how to transition our workforce into this and other endeavors. Without adequate planning, disaster is inevitable.
Maybe they figured out they should just stick to what they know
I can't afford food! I'm not a bad person!
I am able to afford for a month what you are likely able to spend on one meal. You must be proud of that. If you keep us poor then you have no competition, right? It works
You'll never know who the 'Agent' is working for. You? Or somebody else.
And where is all this energy coming from?
Bill, are you listening?
I like CoPilot. Unlike ChatGPT it’s completely transparent about its sources. It’s more like a search engine on steroids. Or internet cliff notes. Very helpful.

Agree about @bsky.app. Google has @reddit.
My understanding is MSFT has a "first rights" deal with ChatGTP in exchange for computer on MSFT cloud.
GitHub copilot?
Your analysis does not make sense. Microsoft has a fairly large head start on actual useful implementations of LLM tech.
I'm online constantly, using Firefox 🦊 with adblockers. Even on my android phone.
I can testify this works very well.
Would prefer an alternative to android, that is not apple.

They may not be in pockets, but Windows 10 & 11 are on 73% of PCs vs Mac’s 15%. Copilot is on the desktop & in the apps. They also have almost 50% of Steam users.
They tried mobile & social & failed at both.
Google also failed at social.
I agreed that partnering w/Bluesky would be smart. I don’t know if Bluesky would go for it & kind of hope they wouldn’t. Would rather they keep control.
I think THAT was also the Reason WHY so many joined @bsky.app !!
When Micosoft bought Discord, this was the result:

JUST a Reminder !!
MSFT investing billions in OpenAI and own research, tens of billions in GPU data centers. Mostly to make a better Clippy.
The ones sucking up to Trump are using AI to better manipulate how people see the world.
User platform, but need to incorporate the overall AI
No Borg here, please.
What are The Three E's?
Embrace
Extend
Extinguish
The world doesn't need more terrible work-product or scams. We need better judgement and AI is a judgement-free copycat machine. Pass
E.g. I'd like to see #LibreOffice replace #MSOffice as the leading office software. And i'd like bsky to be The social media platform for the Good people!😁
They don’t need an AI acquisition. I’d save the cash for after the market develops and license the tech at that point. It will commodify and reach a price equilibrium. I don’t believe the demand will ever even touch the supply.
1/2
It is less than 50/50 they kill something they buy
That money was an investment and Microsoft wants roi
I guess that was exaggeration. Ok.
AI does not present solutions to that dissatisfaction.
I think we’ve reach peak digital addition. Not that digital use will do down but that the ways in which you keep people online won’t change.
Video games, porn, engagement
Staying online doesn’t need to get cheaper and there is unlikely to me a cost benefit to racing to the bottom of an already $0 cost market I typed all this for free Why develop AI to do it worse, when the demand will lower cost later?
