In honor of all the new arrivals, I'm sharing one of my favorite videos.
It shows 24 hours of Earth's rotation, with the camera locked to the sky instead of the ground. We're all hanging out on this spinning rock.
Brilliant work by Bartosz Wojczyński. 🧪

How amazingly unlikely is your birth
And pray that there's intelligent life somewhere up in space
'Cause there's bugger all down here on earth
Til then, help me wrap my head around this. A typical video would show a fixed land point with the sun changing. This one has a fixed sky-point, with a different rotational center. How?
In a nutshell: you set the camera on a device that rotates around an axis parallel to the earth’s axis, one turn per sidereal day, in the opposite direction of Earth’s rotation, so the camera points in a constant direction relative to the rest of the universe.
They're special like that.
The Earth is FLAT!! We’re all gonna die!!!
You misunderstand sir ;)
