Same! I wanted to replay my older Pokemon games but can’t bring myself to overwrite my saves lol. So I’ve been playing Let’s Go Pikachu & Arceus instead
Used to watch YouTube on my 3Ds after my bedtime when I was like 10 because my mom didn’t know it could access the internet so I didn’t have to put it up and I can agree it was the best
My mom used to take my phine at night so I didn't spend the night with it but never my 3ds, so I used to fell sleep with it listening to youtube either random "ask reddit-like" stories or just music
I have 2 seniors 3DS’s, they are both on their last legs, so, to honor them, I’m getting a New 2DS to carry on the journey. May those 2 veterans rest in peace…
The YouTube and internet browser on the 3DS carried me through high school on its back, let me tell you. Before After my dad, his son, and I bricked his laptop by running 3 different Cookie Clicker clients in the background for two full weeks without turning it off, that 3DS was my whole internet.
the patents for the 3ds has been dropped, meaning that anyone could make their own DS system! However it would require a lot of resources to pull off and become mainstream..
And when it was on the wii as well Of The style of internet that we use Nowadays is no longer compatible with The wifi receiver of the wii At least in my experience I've never Been capable of getting it working
I remember borrowing my friends PS Vita when I was younger and uploading bikini models from magazine to it. I forgot to clear it and gave it back. Biggest embarrassment moment when my friend told me.
The youtube app was optimized for 3ds systems so there wasn't much in terms of choppiness, and for mid-2010's standards the quality/playback was acceptable
Does anyone else remember that dinosaur office thing? I don’t even remember where I got it, but it was on my 3ds when I was a kid and istg it feels like a fever dream🫣 that brown one haunted my dreams
YouTube 3DS and Wii U were probably one of my most used apps on both consoles. Fondest 3DS memories are watching the absolute crunchiest-looking Markiplier videos on that thing.
same, the wii u youtube revival does have the annoying side effect of refusing to work after a while of being on and freezing up the whole console but id honestly prefer that over thirdtube
I feel like we've been regressing in terms of technology. There's way less style and ambition in new products regardless if they're phones, gaming devices, computers, etc.
The switch might have better graphics but the 3DS was better in many ways. Putting the 3D element aside, the social aspect of the 3DS was great, I'll never understand why they didn't bring that to the switch. The scanning of VR card, the small 3D games that came free with the consul. 3DS was great.
Every year, I tell myself that I'll finally buy a 3DS, and every year, I don't. But in 2025, I really do feel like... I'm going to continue that trend.
Remember how theoretically convenient it was? Since it wasn't a separate app you could theoretically suspended your game and google a walkthrough and get back to it! You could even make notes! It's a shame the Switch wasn't more dynamic like that
The 3DS in general! It’s a superb mobile gaming console full of great features and has an impressive catalogue of titles. I’m quite disappointed that Nintendo pulled the plug on all network connectivity and shops. Personally I prefer it over the Switch for mobile use …And for Pokémon.
I remember watching many gaming-related videos on my 3DS XL, it was actually really comfortable and kinda fitting. The fact that the app didn't change was very nice as well.
I also watched the whole Bionicle trilogy on it, kind of strange to think about.
I gave stars to every video on Flipnote Hentena or whatever where a person said their dad worked for Nintendo and needed proof that the users / gamers wanted YouTube on the DS. You are welcome 💜
i would watch yt on my 3ds all the time while munching on some crackers, my life peaked back then, OH! or netflix, and id watch every episode of pokemon i saw
I unironically used my 3DS XL when I was away from home to watch at least a whole season of Trailer Park Boys on the Netflix app.
I think that’s a 1 of 1 experience
might i suggest modding your 3ds and getting this app called "NetPass"
Allows you to pull 10 streetpasses (the maximum) by just going in the app, selecting an area and waiting for it to finish loading
its VERY useful for the puzzle one and other streetpass games
Oh I’m technologically illiterate I would have to have my housemate do it, he’s my go to computer guy. While that would be awesome, it’s just not the same as the OG version and I thankfully finished all the puzzle and stuff lol I worked at a GameStop during so it was fairly easy! Thanks though!!!
I don't understand why they didn't implement Street pass on the switch, the whole point of the Switch was that it was supposed to be portable. It would have been a great addition
The only thing I could think of is while the 3DS could be closed for protection the switch cannot and while it is marketed as a portable console, it’s not in the same vein as say the DS/3DS.
Going to school, having the green light pop up because you met your friends there and then you would change your Mii's fav colour to help your friends in that RPG game.
I even somehow managed to encounter Iwata there with his golden pants.
I remember going on the Streetpass Subreddit and reading similar things 🥺 which is a damn shame. Though going to conventions and stuff for Comic Con/Anime etc was what most in that scenario did
Comments
How have I had a 3DS since launch and never known this
Stuck with whichever firmware update was out during 2014 lol
Restarting Omega Ruby, Fire Emblem SoV, and MH4U 😂
Take me back man 🥲
I have not recovered from that and it's been a year
basically an improved version of youtube on the 3DS
Its a fond memory now.
Also that 3ds fell out of my pocket on the stairs and broke that same day. That's life
I also watched the whole Bionicle trilogy on it, kind of strange to think about.
I think that’s a 1 of 1 experience
What???
(I had to use a random thumbnail from "Robles Junior")
Used to run Streetpass Mii’t’ups with our local Nintendo rep once a month at the local library
It is now infinitely more exciting when you see the green light.
