Are non-US academics changing any travel plans that involve the USA? E.g. reconsidering non-essential conferences, turning down invites, or is it business as usual? #AcademicSky

I dont blame them, either. I had an opportunity to go to Texas for work last year, but I chose not to. As much as I want to support dems down there, I don't consider it a safe place for women of childbearing age.

Not an academic but my son has a rare genetic disorder. The annual conference where we meet and chat with other families and actual researchers about their work is in the US. We will not be crossing the border from Canada.

I’m an artist who frequently travels to do shows. I get “invites” to apply to shows in deeply red areas. I refuse to go. I don’t feel safe. Can’t blame any of these people saying they won’t come here.

I 100% understand folks not feeling safe here but as a US academic I support international scholars just boycotting the US. Like another Russia. Not to mention poaching all the talent that the regime is going to needlessly alienate / blacklist.

It’s not safe to even fly here at this time. We cancelled our son’s flight and now I’m driving 9 hours each way to pick up and drop off for spring break, because his safety is worth it

I honestly can't blame them, either. I have a feeling what we're going to see next is a pretty severe case of brain drain as people who see no prospects here move on the other more friendly countries to research and decency. And we won't recover from that.

I support boycotting the US. And we should be engaged in boycotting businesses that support the current regime. They are the ones hurting the local economy; show them we have collective power to hurt their $$$$$$$$.

I handed off editing of a journal in my discipline to an international team located entirely outside the US last year. Didn't seem portentious at the time.

It had come to the US during WWII from occupied Belgium, and… well. Anyway I don't think it'll be back for a generation.
