If this were Turkey, the military would step in and get rid of Trump. It may happen here too, after a few months of Hegseth and the way they are trying the generals.
Trump puts troops on the streets in blue states who refuse to comply. Which is illegal. Civilians shoot troops for which there is no law. Because it’s illegal.
Or the states refuse to comply with a biased US Supreme Court ruling. Constitutional crisis without a solution.
You forgot the Trump militias which will travel to "help restore order" aka citizen against citizen, the "keepers of the Oath" are just waiting for an excuse to "defend thier country" against insurrectionists (democrats) disobeying Trumps cohort
They liked Trump and wanted him to win, so they sanewashed his speeches and nitpicked his opponents. Now they want him to succeed, so they're soft-pedaling his authoritarianism (or even framing it as heroic). But don't worry: they will bury one critical aside deep in a Page 12 story to show balance.
They will much rather assign junior political reporters and people from the style section than reporters on the investigative, crime and national security beat.
This isn’t a “reshaping". It's a revolution. They were clear and upfront about their intentions.
"We are in the process of the second American Revolution, which will remain bloodless if the left allows it to be." Kevin Roberts, president of The Heritage Foundation and leader of Project 2025
This is scary but also a sign of desperation on MAGAs part. Trump is a lame duck and they know it. There ideas are unpopular not to mention idiotic. Deep down they know it, or at least some do. Flooding the zone with excrement may be a tactical strategy but also flailing desperation.
No, unless you like sports. I signed up a few months ago when I quit WaPo & there is very little national coverage & what there is is obscured by constant sports popups. Site drives me crazy!
I mean, it's fine, for ppl who want that. But if you want hard news, do not recommend.
Red-hats allow nasty UV in. Keeps healing IR out. After two or three rallies neurons go mute. Brain turns to cauliflower soup. At some point even cauliflower soup concludes trump is a golf course punk.
I feel bad for Russians. After the wall came down in Berlin, they had a glimmer of hope that democracy may prevail. Then came Putin and put out all hope. I feel like we are in our Putin moment.
All of those things are sure to help make everyday living more affordable for Americans... This administration is wasting more resources on frivolous policies than thinking about what we really need.
My Globe subscription just went up. The reason they gave was so they could "grow their initiatives", and listed the reporting areas they are expanding.
If this is the work they're doing with my extra 3 bucks, I'm happy to pay.
I resent all those people that don’t pay attention to politics, dash in and make an uneducated vote, then continue their merry little way without paying attention to what’s going on now.
A new subscription to the Globe is $1 for 6 months. I’m giving them a try after canceling NYT and WaPo. If they end up rising to the challenge of appropriately covering this administration, I’ll continue the subscription. If not, I’m out $1.
I've gone to alternate sources as well, what's next plan when they no longer allow these reporters to access information? Can't get to a State news/medi without suppression and I do believe it's happening.
You make a good point. If things get that bad, we’ll be royally 🔩 I’m also reading more substacks than ever. The AllSides app can be a handy resource for articles from the L/R/C.
Headline will sooth those who don't read further. "Reshape" is such a nice word, with lots of positive sounding synonyms people think of. Soft brand of appeasement.
Spin only goes so far. The economic issues will be undeniable & their guy will be at the top of that blame pyramid. Ignore the bots & propagandists on X & YouTube, they are not the voters.
Example: Luigi. Propagandists attempted to order their followers to agree. They refused.
Their ignorance of how government works won't reduce the consequences they're going to experience. Prices are going up. Public health is going to suffer. Services they rely on are being dismantled.
Only 1/3 voted for him & half of them don't know how anything works.
Agreed. MAGA disciples are being told, and are believing, that these things are necessary in order to fight the democrats…and if any of these things fail, it’s because the democrats did something to undermine them. MAGA disciples are still very enthusiastically drinking the Kool-Aid.
only took Hitler 53 days, #kingbabytrump is trying to beat that record - and just like in 1933, those who should obstruct and block those efforts are bending the knee to their new fuhrer
The headline is pure ass, but at least they're reporting on how Trump and Musk are destroying the US. Most newspapers can't even find that much of a backbone.
I mean, it's progress, I guess. But I don't think the Boston Globe headline on September 12, 2001, was 'Al Qaeda successful in reshaping World Trade Center'.
We need all immigrants with or w/o papers, every shade of skin, LGBTQ, feminists, freedom fighters, protectors of women and children, protectors of the earth, protectors of the disabled and disadvantaged. True patriots of the constitution. We are ONE in this fight. Our differences are gone. #RESIST
Racing? Whatever happened to Trump's vow to lower grocery prices?? He condemned Biden for months, showed off grocery items he's never heard of, conned people into believing he'd lower prices, so where's the "race" to fix all that? Where the "eating the dogs and the cats in Ohio" conspiracy went?
What percentage of people are okay with a Trump dictatorship? What if we take a poll but don’t use “dictatorship”, instead ask if okay with Trump having complete authority to run the country? Probably a scary number
So, a lot of critique on here for this headline, but it struck me a lot differently. At least @bostonglobe.com is trying to explain the scope of what’s happening. At least they’re calling attention to it like the emergency it is. Everywhere else is just scattered and breathless.
Reshape is too anodyne a word for all the carnage they describe below the header. Something like “Dismantle” would be more accurate and still isn’t as provocative of the real word: Destroy.
That is fair. And I agree that dismantle is a much too order-bound term. I keep thinking of gremlins in the machine, just breaking whatever they can reach. Destroy seems to conclusive, though. Shatter, maybe?
The Boston Globe is another billionaire owned media source (John Henry), but so far he has not demanded fealty of his newsroom and editorial staff. How long that will last is anyone's guess.
It’s unrealistic to expect a newspaper to call this fascist. It should be appreciated that they are at least giving people the concentrated reporting necessary to evaluate the chaos.
I mean, for one thing, what they’re describing isn’t particularly fascistic. If anything it’s more anarchic. Or just chaotic and short sighted. Really more Cruel and incompetent the fascist.
Anarchism is a political philosophy that opposes all forms of unjust hierarchy, advocating for self-governed, cooperative communities based on mutual aid and voluntary association. It values individual freedom, collective responsibility, and a society without enforced authority.
That’s a fair counterpoint and I used the term in a more colloquial and much less accurate sense. I just see the actions of this administration as destructive of the entire idea of liberal, small l, government. They are just trying to break it and leave nothing left.
I think you're wrong. There's nothing about this that resembles anarchism in the least. And giving bounties to report "illegal"migrants, forcing the resignation of career fed workers, dictating that trans ppl "do not exist" is certainly closer to fascism that anything else.
Time to put my money where my mouth is. I gave up the NYT and Washington Post. Haven't subscribed to the Globe in years. I renewed my subscription today.
The headline should have been, "Racing to Destroy America" because "fired, frozen, withdrew, declared, eliminated," etc.," are not words signifying change. They mean the end of things, and we shouldn't be afraid to observe and report such actions objectively.
All this was known in Project 2025 & media gave DJT a pass including your network, CNBC, which has more anchors in the pocket of the GOP than I can shake a stick at. He was sane washed & sanitized every step of the way.
The woman: New Apostolic Reformation (Christian nationalists preaching prosperity gospel and Dominionism who sneer at Christ's demand for empathy and compassion)
The beast & kings: Christo-Fascism
10 kings: American oligarchs from tech, media, energy, banking, lobbying, military industrial complex
Impact: potential loss of a generation of scientists who helped fuel American innovation. Debasement of an entire political party membership sitting contentedly under the thumb of an authoritarian. Erasure Congressional authority.
Headline edited for journalistic integrity and veracity:
One Week of Constitutional Offenses and Violations
The President’s excessive executive power overreach erodes the essential checks and balances established by the Constitution, paving the way for authoritarianism.
It would send a powerful message if the Globe got a lot of new subscribers today out of gratitude that a newspaper in the MSM is making an effort to tell it like it is on the front page.
It’s apparently what 31% of the US population voted for. Or not. Maybe one day we will find out how the election was ratfucked. One thing we do know is that trump cheats at EVERYTHING.
I worked for the NYT at another paper when they took The Globe.
The NYT management style was that everyone at The Mothership was a god on Earth, everyone at another company paper was untrustworthy trash, and they carried that attitude into their ownership of The Globe.
I dunno. Their language is neutral. I would have preferred a mention of “illegal” alongside some of these actions.
It would be nice to mention the local impact in more graphic terms than “so many programs would be affected.” How about “No money available for…”
The Latin phrase "Cui bono?" means "who benefits?" This method for investigating crime suggests that the individual who gains the most from the crime is likely the perpetrator. So, who truly benefits from DJT?

Who knew?
Or the states refuse to comply with a biased US Supreme Court ruling. Constitutional crisis without a solution.
One of these options.
This is the NYT. Unbelievable
Seriously, what is wrong with the NYT? How do they purposefully decide not to meet the moment and convey the gravity of what's going on?

What matters is not the label, but what the label represents. When people ignore the label, it's good to point out the specifics of what's happening
I mean, it's fine, for ppl who want that. But if you want hard news, do not recommend.

THIS is journalism—please take notes. Trump is not returning us “to a different bygone era,” he is destroying the country with his fascism.

Few daily news organizations are doing this well. It's not easy, but it is critical to saving our #Democracy.
It's sad to see all this. Nine years into this slow rolling disaster and they still don't know how to just state the fucking obvious.
What do you think?
Trump swore he’s not aligned,
His every move proves he lied.
Policies he now makes live,
Match exactly: Project 2025.

DESTROY.
ANNIHILATE.
OBLITERATE.
BURN TO THE GROUND.
The press is starting to wake up.
What could possibly go wrong?
Is that the sound of whining from MAGA's not able to afford prescription drugs, not getting Medicaid funding, not getting..........

U.S. voters totally influenced by media. Sad!!

I don't know if it's a deal given to everyone or just local folks.
And I told them my reason for subscribing was their honest reportage on Trump’s fascist agenda.
If they keep this up I'll have to stop calling them the GLOB.
The Roadmap to Fascism drawn by Religious Zealots.
You could learn a thing or two from Globe journalists, editors, & publisher.
The NYT management style was that everyone at The Mothership was a god on Earth, everyone at another company paper was untrustworthy trash, and they carried that attitude into their ownership of The Globe.
Glad they are free.

Only Putin.
