Stereopathetic Soulmanure was like the meteor that killed the dinosaurs. It changed everything about music for me. Odelay was so good it defied logic. How could an album be that good? It isn't possible. Midnight Vultures was 12 years aead of it's time. 12 years! Those CDs, in that order.
The CD single for Loser - because it included that timeless banger Fume, which still totally rips. I guess it just wasn't mellow enough for Mellow Gold.
I was obsessed with all the early albums and singles when they came out! Mellow Gold, One Foot in the Grave, Stereopathetic Soul Manure. But my favorite Beck CD was the Beercan single. Every track a banger!
While I agree with you on those two I still love Mellow Gold. That album was so different from anything else I owned at the time. This song was my jam! https://youtu.be/3SzwwAbN3tc?si=PcoqjqLmFluh9mQH
this was not an anti-mellow gold skeet i assure you, mellow gold walked so odelay could run, and midnight vultures could fly. also thank satan he left scientology
I was just thinking something similar. Odelay took the best parts of Mellow Gold and so on. I’m a beastie boys fan and I see the same thing in their first three commercial albums as I see in Beck’s: Maturation.
✌️
That is such a great point! Cheers to those guys. They deserve a ton of credit. I honestly didn’t know they produced Odelay until right now. That blows me away. Two of the coolest albums of all time.
Mellow Gold was another defining album for rock music in the 90s. Eras like this will never repeat themselves. A mixture of anger, rebellion, grunge, confusion, and apathy.

*HA! Still got it, Steve*
Most underrated album of all time.
But yeah, ODELAY, for me
Sexxx laws is a gem.
Otherwise Guero feels like the most solid, though I understand it lacks iconic gems. Solid songs up til prolly track 8 but it picks back up.

I also hate Scientology, but I hope this helps ya.
