Not just them but the ripple effect of shuttering research at universities, medical centers, etc. Many major universities and hospitals are anchors for their surrounding economies. If Medicaid is cut, rural hospitals and health centers will be destroyed.
I can't say what others are doing, but my company can't bid on contracts which rely on American components when the current US administration creates so much insecurity.
So we're started sourcing as much as we can from European and East-Asian suppliers.
That seems to be the goal of the Trump admin. If you aren't Americans, we won't do business with you. This is truly the most absurd moment in American history. Prior to that the strangest time was January 2017-January 2021.
There are two issues with this.
First is, it's expectations, not predictions. Just beause people expect something, doesn't mean it will happen.
The second is more a question than an issue - what jobs are going to be lost? Are those going to be productive jobs? If not, is it really bad?
The purpose of the democrats is to do just enough to stop the poor from revolting while serving the interests of billionaires. If the vote for Trump wasn't a revolt against the status quo, then what was it?
Trump knows there are other ways to keep the poor in their place.
So please explain to us how the Democrats dismantled the unions and made sure that the majority of the US productivity increase the last 40 years got locked away in the stock marked.
I'd like to point out that the trend started in the early 80's, and since then 5/8 presidents have been Republican.
That’s a given.
Oil companies laid off a lot.
Walmart and other retailers laid off those from holiday and won’t be bring them back by summer.
IRS hires part time tax help and post office hires to help mail dump at tax time & can’t this spring.
75,000-200,000 federal workers.
He’s leaving a mess
1. Took hundreds of calls from terrified constituents
2. Gave a lot of civics lessons on how state and federal Govt interact
3. Gave a lot of civics lessons on Article 1 of the Constitution
4. Cried with constituents I can’t help
5. Discovered a new depth of anger and hate I‘ve never felt before
Isn’t the job of our politicians 2 work so that our citizens r fully employed? Isn’t it important that people r working & paying into our tax system? Someone explain to me how closing all these agencies and putting people out of work is beneficial to our society. Unemployment leads to depression.
Companies are scared to hire right now. Just WAY too much uncertainty. And now Americans aren't going to spend either because they are worried about their jobs.
It’s very real for a lot of us already. Layoffs are hitting biotech and now the slashing of federal research funding. That hits our suppliers too. Everything from chemical suppliers to plastics to precision instruments.
Inflation. Homelessness. Housing. Food banks. Illness. The future is dystopian. BUT I think we should give tax breaks to rich people who may only have $500 Billion dollars.
This surge in pessimism about future job prospects is likely a result of misplaced economic policies, not a reflection of actual market trends or potential for growth.
It still amazes me that somewhat intelligent people still believe Trump is a "typical" economic GOP. He knows power is worth more and you can strip all the wealth you need for yourself that way. You don't need an economy, that's for the serfs. He could care less if it all tanks and prob wants /
that because then he and the gilded class can scoop up cheap assets and people will be distracted by survival. The only question is are we going the way of the French or the Russians of history.
Somewhat true but a lot of those same people will see massive upheaval in their existence in a short period. The mistake is believing this won't cascade everywhere quickly and affect most people. There isn't enough bread or circus for what's coming soon
“They were careless people, Elon and Donald - they smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back into their money or their vast carelessness, or whatever it was that kept them together, and let other people clean up the mess they had made.”
At some point the American public are going to wake up to the fact that all this turmoil is being deliberately created by the richest man in the world and his billionaire sidekick President- two people who are themselves totally immune from the economic impact of the turmoil.
The democrats do a poor job of communicating success with the economy. Clinton, Obama, and Biden, all left office with a 4% unemployment rate, and years of strong returns in the market. America is center left. They need to embrace that and stop focusing on far left talking points
That info was broadcast all over the News, Social Media, and in Democratic campaigns for well over a year. It hasn’t exactly been a secret held only by shy Democratic politicians.
Or is it irresponsible reception by the undereducated public who has and still is trying to receive, process, and apply actions to massive amounts of social media while working, going to school, keeping a household, raising kids? Yada yada yada. The pendulum swings….
A lot of uncertainty with papa cheeto making enemies of allies and vice versa, elon continuing to hoard our country’s wealth, and cutting hundreds of thousands of jobs in government from existence. Last I heard those workers need to work somewhere to survive, who knew?
I think it'll be too bad for them to cook the books. Headlines from outlets that haven't decided to suck Trump's toes will report on the mass layoffs. Individuals will be begging for a banana on the road side. It'll be too hard to ignore.
A. I. Is benevolent as well as malevolent. It will be human that decides what value is ascribed to A. I., and I see evil in my minds eye. Evil humans will utilize A.I. to power and control.....the same tired story of humanity. Historically, in REAL TIME, humans invented the male-sun-god; BIG MISTAKE!

Sad!
They failed
The Democrats work defensively against leftward movement, while the Republicans work offensively.
To say that it's one party's fault or the other would mean that they aren't working together.

Carter attacked the unions, and he gave us Volker. Reagan was just the natural extension of Carter's policies
Do your homework I'm not going to do it for you.
Trump will rob you, alienate every ally, but it's the "Democrats fault".
That's a particular brand of ignorance.

As a labor expert, I expect to see jumps in the UI-5 unemployment rate come March and April. We could easily be in a recession by the end of the year.
(Resent due to brain freeze “typo”.)
