The thing about swastikas spray painted on the side of a cybertruck is there’s a 50/50 chance the owner did it.

Suggestions for a three-pronged strategy against autocracy and sabotage of the state itself: Congress, courts, streets.

I wouldn’t think “moved to root out diversity initiatives” is a useful phrase for journalism at all, but using it as a euphemism for a purge of high ranking black officers is downright Orwellian.

If we operate with an economic orthodoxy that for 45 years reduces human motivation to ‘rational selfishness’ and cost benefit calculation should we really be surprised that the end game of that era puts narcissistic nihilists at the top of the political pile? As the ‘realists’.

Le Monde, "French MPs vote through the left's wealth tax on the ultra-rich" Your reminder that a 2% wealth tax on those with £10 million, affecting 0.04% of the UK population, would raise £24 billion a year You have to wonder why Labour chose not to do this..

Sometimes, I wonder what people will think in 50 or 100 years when they take a look into a news archive or a history book ...

Global crisis style note: What Trump is doing to Ukraine is not 'blackmail', which would be demand for payment under threat of exposure of compromising information*. This is demand for payment under threat of violence/refusal to protect from violence. The word is 'extortion'.

He nails it.

BBC News on hour reporting straight that Trump has got rid of military chiefs because ‘they’re too mired in woke culture’ 🤯🤯🤯 Traditional liberal democratic media still hasn’t learned how to report on authoritarians, even now when it’s almost too late

Europe will need an additional 300 000 troops and an increase of defense spending by EUR 250 billion annually in case US withdraws from the continent - Kiel Institute for the World Economy & Bruegel⤵️ Source: ifw-kiel.de/publications/

The economics profession presents an idealised version of the economy, as beautiful as Dorian Gray’s unchanging face. The actual economy is increasingly ugly, like his portrait: marked by oligarchs and the underclass, the looting of poor countries, and the industrial-scale gobbling up of the planet

"It is astonishing how many self-declared defenders of democracy today are always reacting, are always defensive." Very insightful interview with @jwmueller-pu.bsky.social on populism, democracy, liberalism, Trump, etc.

Finally! 🔥

If true then the US is now a genuine Russia-style mafia state. Russia extorts with energy-, the US with tech-dependence. I trust the conclusions we draw from this will also turn into a semblance of policy.

Starlink should be banned from European markets on national security grounds. Anything requiring Starlink should be shut out of the European market, and sanctions should be considered against all relevant actors. kyivindependent.com/us-threatens...

Putin “loved Brexit, cheers on the far right in Europe and backed Trump because he wants to see the crumbling of the western bloc that has stood firm against him. For a US president to follow that script….is a huge win for the Kremlin” Trump-the traitorous patsy. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

You think you've seen it all and then 😮

🔥 🔥 A descendant of Patrick Henry and relative of James Madison spoke at Rep. Rich McCormick’s (R-GA) town hall last night. The whole speech was fire, but I want to show this clip. “What are you going to do to reign in the megalomaniac in the White House?” Standing ovation 👏 👏

The Young Conservatives were once the UK's largest political youth movement. The party had thriving organizations in most universities and strong links with business, the professions & farming. It's not biology or culture that's made them toxic with the working-age population. It's their choices.

TRUMP: The NCAA has complied immediately. That's good. But I understand Maine -- is the governor of Maine here? JANET MILLS: Yeah I'm here TRUMP: Are you not gonna comply? JM: I'm going to comply with state and federal law T: You better do it bc you're not gonna get any federal funding at all

This is what patriotism looks like. Chris Kluwe, a former NFL player was arrested after speaking out against plans to install a MAGA plaque at a Southern California library. What a legend. The irony is that it’s unlikely a MAGA supporter has ever set foot in a library.

Just outrageous - nearly £4 billion "excess profit" pocketed by privatised energy networks while YOUR bills went up Energy transmission and distribution is a natural monopoly and other countries recognise this PUBLIC OWNERSHIP NOW ⚡️🔥 www.theguardian.com/business/202...

Genuinely couldn't believe this figure until I saw the Financial Times confirm it using Meta's own financial reporting data For THIS $100 billion is genuinely the kind of money you could "do the impossible" with. Crack nuclear fusion. HIV vaccine. Universal flu vaccine And they spent it on this

This is dead right. The idea that letting US Big Tech do what it wants is justifiable because it will bring growth is not just economically unconvincing and historically naive - it's opposed by UK tech firms.

I’m increasingly of the view that whether media outlets call this a Nazi salute tells you everything you need to know about them. If they don’t have the courage to say things which can be proven simply by looking at them, how can they be trusted to hold the Trump admin to account on anything else?

Brilliant, @alanbeattie.bsky.social taking on the cult of deregulation and also taking on the perceived wisdom that the UK is bound to gain from diverging from EU AI rules.

Take my previous job! We are hiring for the Research Director for the Center for Science and Democracy at @ucsusa.bsky.social . If ever there was a time where this position is impactful it is now. apply.workable.com/union-of-con...

The EU needs to start imposing sanctions on US politicians and officials for backing the Russian war effort.
