Do you feel like a science grandma?

+ for some reason (the holes and the fact it is light yellow) it very much reminds me of gruyère.

Thank you! I'm doing some knock-on cell lines for the lab. This rack was special, it has 2 sizes of holes so you can have 15 mL AND 50 mL tubes!!!

Neither. The blue cheese is achelse blauw. The brie type is something called oudwijker Fiore. There was something mild and pleasant a little morbier like called petit doruvael. The belegen I'm not sure exactly, but something mild.

Awful!
We got stranded at the airport yesterday and no one made any kind of effort to make our life easier. I don't expect preferential treatment but a little bit of empathy would go a long way.

I think the woman sitting across from my 2 yo was worried that his wellies would touch her pants, even though he was far away and sitting quietly. I guess he should have floated above the rain puddles.

Earlier today we took the tram and people just stared at us in anger. My kids can be rowdy as much as the next child, but this is before they in fact did anything...

Overall, it's been a tough but formative year, and I'm looking forward to 2025 surrounded by awesome lab members, collaborators, friends and family! Bring it on!

That means taking time off Mondays to take my daughter to hockey. Spending Saturday morning at music class for my son. Going to random durch town for hockey games. Having a sitter so that partner and I can go to FC Utrecht football games (7/8)

On the personal side, I'm finding my balance between enjoying my science life and spending time with my partner and kids. I now protect time for this specifically, even if sometimes I feel bad about being less productive than others. (6/n)

I've finally managed to start traveling abroad again, and I'm happy to say that most of it I've done by train (paris, uk, Lyon, Basel)! It's been nice meeting science people again and I can only do this because my partner handles both kids at home. (5/n)

We've also had a ton of problems. 5 grants rejected, including fellowships for lab members. Our media absolutely crashed and it took forever to solve (multiple problems, unresponsive commercials, general slowness of testing). We were all relieved to go on holidays. (4/n)

We started using S Rosetta as a model system to study cell division in a broader context. We have a first set of super interesting data and it's been a joyous adventure with awesome collaborators (notably @thibautbrunet.bsky.social ) (3/n)

Our (Snjezana's) paper got preprinted and should be out soon (stay tuned!). There we showed that microtubules participate in delayed abscission. We're working on other exciting aspects of microtubules and abscission (a lot of it in collaboration with some great people at UU and elsewhere)

As you should, of course. Division is the best.

We do some, but that's mostly Lukas Kapitein's lab's daily routine! The banner on my profile is an expanded bridge though.
