I think there should be compensation, but this should only be in the news. Anyone that applied for it would then automatically disqualify themselves, as they would have proven that they see the news! /s

I think that his point is that a campaign is (should be) unnecessary. They have already found experts, and are preparing an appeal. Their concern is that this might not be new evidence, so the appeal might be dismissed. That's when you need a campaign.

I agree there: there's a requirement for new evidence, with a presumption that the original trial dealt with the existing evidence completely fairly. I am unconvinced that the original trial represented the defence case well, but I don't think that's seen as grounds for appeal.

I don't much like Streeting, and I have serious doubts about Letby's guilt, but I think he's right here - there is a legal process. That said, with some recent high profile miscarriages of justice (Post Office especially), only righted through popular campaigns, maybe processes need to be reviewed?

It's entirely reasonable for Starmer to try to do something about Trump's deranged behaviour, even if his chances of success are low. Doing nothing about fascism, when you have some power, isn't a good look.

I can go entire journeys in my EV without using the brakes, due to regenerative braking. I would think that EVs produce much less brake dust than ICE vehicles.

It's always jarring how there seems to be a strong inverse correlation between salary and how much a job contributes to society

Interesting article. I'd like to see a museum display showing the populations and movements at certain snapshots in time on a world map, complete with indicative drawings of what the people looked like

The standard IT response might be to spend more, and get a mesh system that uses a separate system for the devices communicating with each other (Deco X75 pro?). Or spend more and get prosumer access points hard wired (Unifi?) Could also be placement of devices - walls and interference. Good luck!

Spend the money and get a WiFi mesh system, separate from anything from your internet provider

Many Brits seem to think it's a zero sum game, so in order to win we need Europe to lose. But it's not: with lots of free trade, services and youth movement everyone wins - but many people (and politicians) seem unable to accept this.

Only in 2024, when Brexit was a done deal. In 2017 and 2019 there was no surge to them, in vote share or seats: 2010 23.0% 57 2015 7.9% 8 2017 7.4% 12 2019 11.6% 11 2024 12.2% 72 Europe was a big deal 2015-2019, and that's when they did terribly

I generally agree with the view that, since we voted in Brexiters (repeatedly), then it's our fault as the electorate. However, in our system there are two parties that can win, and neither was offering an alternative to Brexit. But yeah, the failing of the Lib Dems to make ground has to be telling

I presume I'm one of very few UK home owners who is pleased to see house prices drop? No issue for me, better for my kids and better for the economy.

The only way the UK will rejoin the EU is if it gets over the exceptionalism. Once it does that, accepting the Euro is a small step.

Late 80s! Absolutely sure that full fees were three figures not four. Despite being relatively better off than my parents were, there's no way I could have afforded private school fees, even when I was able to work!

When I was at KES in Birmingham, my parents paid about £200/term on an assisted place, which was a bit under half price, IIRC. It's now £6k plus VAT. Quite some inflation.

You can have this European citizenship removed though, through no action of your own and without your consent. I did, and I don't think I'll ever get over it.

Simply take enough to share, and some port decanted into containers under 100ml. Biscuits, grapes, celery. Think I'd go for one if those Stiltons you gouge out with a spoon, though, rather than take a cheese knife.

Yes, subsidise pubs with a tax on off-licence and supermarket sales, so that the price is close to equal. It would be great for the economy and for the nation's mental health!

The phrases are deeply irritating to us pro-Europe Brits! The way Brexit was misrepresented by both politicians and the media still upsets me to this day.

If you're eating after going to the pub, it's a kebab you want, not a restaurant

Excellent response. I would only add, based on my father's end of life care, that it's not just more money that is needed, but a change in approach to prioritise patient comfort and dignity.
