I found both Jesus and John Wayne and Color of Compromise to be incredibly insightful. Will have to read more of these. Also learned quite a bit from "Guaranteed Pure: Fundamentalism, Business, and the Making of Modern Evangelicalism" by Timothy Gloege

I got to see him pitch that year, but I wasn't quite old enough to realize how big a deal it was, and I only remember that we went. What I do remember is that every one of us pitching in wiffle ball would talk to the ball, "Come on ball...gotta be a strike now..."

I didn't see that live. And I moved on. If we argue everything ad infinitum, needing the last word, we run the risk of turning this place into Twitter

We've seen the Packers and Cowboys get every call for years. Lions are amused and thrilled to hear that anyone favors them for a change.

But Gibbs was right there. Of course Goff was throwing it away, but Gibbs almost got a hand on it

Think I'll start with James; I've read Huck Finn a few times, though it's been a while. The other will be a tough read at the moment...

Our society leads the world at shooting itself in the foot. Not so much at getting what we actually want though. For all the talk about crime, the public strongly resists doing anything useful about it.

To everyone in a similar scenario: the tactic my doctor's office has taught me is to ask, in writing, for:
1) the name, board specialty, and license number of the doctor making the determination the treatment was not medically necessary;

You need a new motto: Democracy dies in broad daylight because we can't do our jobs.
