A thank you note from China ... They are thankful that the US is turning over leadership of the 21st century to them By @andrewdessler.com www.theclimatebrink.com/p/a-thank-yo...

⚡ How ready are Europe’s grids for the energy transition? @globsec.bsky.social’s first ever Grids Transition Index is a great starting point for a discussion. 📖 Read the report: www.globsec.org/what-we-do/p...

Cela permet de voir les batteries différemment

Brazil, Chile, Morocco, Nigeria, the Philippines, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Uzbekistan each bought enough solar panels from China in 2024 to meet between 3% and 5% of their annual electricy demand. www.bloomberg.com/opinion/arti...

Big leap for sustainable industry in Europe! In 2027, BASF Ludwigshafen will host world’s most powerful industrial heat pump. 🔋50 MWth capacity ⚡COP >3, 67%+ energy savings 🌿 100,000+ tons CO₂ cut/year 💨 Cleaner air, fewer nitrogen emissions www.gigkarasek.com/news/large-s...

Fun fact (which blew my mind): CO2 emissions from China's iron & steel sector are nearly twice as large as emissions from the country's entire transportation sector! And cement production in China is also roughly equal to transportation emissions. Industrial decarbonization is the next frontier...🔌💡

The Relentless Rise of Electric Truck Sales in China Almost 80,000 zero-emission medium and heavy-duty vehicles were sold in China last year, more than double compared to '23 ⚡️⚡️⚡️ "more than 25 times the number sold three years prior." #alwaysbecharging

does anyone know of any good, global surveys on climate fatalism? "It's too late to stop climate change" y/n type thing; with a track over many years if possible. Does that exist?

Bonsoir! Je voudrais rappeler les points clés du rapport du Haut Conseil pour le Climat de 2024, pour accélérer la transition climatique avec un système alimentaire bas carbone, résilient et juste. 1/...

I have a piece out today in @naturesustain.bsky.social arguing that we should be realistic -- or even pessimistic -- about the potential for climate adaptation. rdcu.be/d9Rue

New research: Multiple planetary boundaries preclude biomass crops for carbon capture and storage outside of agricultural areas - i.e. #BECCS has v little potential unless it takes over existing farmland www.nature.com/articles/s43...

A big contrast: From 2006 to 2023, China's nuclear energy production surged by 690%, rising from 55 TWh to 435 TWh. Meanwhile, Germany's nuclear output plummeted from 167 TWh to zero, making it the only major economy to fully phase out nuclear power.

Average cost to install residential rooftop solar: 🇺🇸United States: $2.60/W 🇨🇦Canada: $2.39/W 🇦🇺Australia: $0.58/W

This is the best article on the benefits and challenges of heat pumps I've read. I really don't know what the solution is, although hybrids (furnace plus heat pump) are one major option. This is after years of trying to figure it out. #electrifyeverything 🔌 ⚡️ www.nytimes.com/wirecutter/r...

In 2004, it took the world a year to add a gigawatt of solar power — now it takes a day

Some recent concrete updates here on the timeline of Eavor's first of a kind closed loop geothermal energy project in Bavaria, Germany, which should start producing power & heat in the first half of this year www.thinkgeoenergy.com/eavor-target... 🔌💡

IPCC AR6 scenarios from European organizations had a higher share of solar & wind, higher electrification, less reliance on nuclear & CCS. European modellers contributed >70% of the scenarios, so the IPCC AR6 scenario results has a significant European fingerprint. rdcu.be/d8pkw

Best story I’ve seen about how: - Recent immigrants get work on Uber Eats, Doordash. - They use e-bikes and mopeds because you don’t need a license/documents for them. - Cheap ebikes/mopeds imported by dealers from China, benefitting from vast e-mobility supply chain. www.curbed.com/article/elec...

We are not even a week into the second Trump administration and the President of Colombia is telling Trump that he will never shake is hand because “I don’t shake hands with white slavers,” which, to be clear, is a bar

Can the "net-zero hero” motivate others to follow suit? Perhaps.. not. A study suggests the way the energy sector shapes this narrative sets individuals up to fail. "Storytelling should emphasise the role of companies and governments alongside individuals." www.theguardian.com/environment/...

The world’s largest energy storage facility isn’t what most people think: Varanto, a seasonal thermal energy storage facility in Finland, will be able to store 90GWh of energy compared to world’s largest electric battery (3GWh of electricity). www.renewableenergymagazine.com/storage/worl...

I love the positive response every time I post about this. My old EV battery is now bolted to the side of my house, ready to be connected and serve a new life.

NEW: Elon Musk has said America is being “strangled to death” by regulations. But the billionaire’s car company might not have survived without them, Tesla securities filings show. www.eenews.net/articles/mus...

Has the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC) weakened over the last decades? In our new study, we combine state-of-the-art CMIP6 models and observation-based estimates of the air-sea heat flux in the North Atlantic to show that the AMOC has not declined since the 1960s! 🌊

NEW: Mass heat mortality events are coming. In our new preprint, we project tens of thousands of deaths per week in Europe, if the weather patterns that produced heat waves historically happen again at future -- or even current -- global temperatures. eartharxiv.org/repository/v...

800 year old York Minster now has 184 solar panels installed, which will generate 70,000 kWh of energy, enough to deliver a third of the Minster’s electricity requirements www.maxfordham.com/practice-peo...

NEW from me: Half of all China’s exports of solar and wind power equipment and electric vehicles (EVs) now go to the Global South. Emerging and developing countries have driven most of the recent growth in export volumes.

There’s a solar plant to be built with a 2:1 DC to AC ratio, & six hours of batteries in Oregon. It’ll have a roughly 37-39% AC capacity factor. Come May, it’ll produce enough electricity relative to its 1.2 GW grid connection to hit peak output around 8-9 am &running to some degree until midnight.

Check out that drop in evening gas generation! Storage (+ solar) is crushing the evening peak in California. 🔌💡

Need to zoom out sometimes to see just how much progress is being made with EV technology. Compare the 2011 Nissan versus the 2025 Chevrolet Equinox 👇🏼 #EVsky #greensky #energysky #EV

Good morning with good news: Next Generation Geothermal is on track to cost $50-$120/MWh by 2035 reports IEA. Geothermal may generate 6000 TWh (800 GW), equal to electricity demand today in US & India combined, by 2050. Geothermal capacity factor is >75%. #energysky www.iea.org/reports/the-...
