As a millennial, I have never truly believed that I would receive social security when I retired because I understood that the system as it was was not sustainable. I still paid into it so that people who need it *now* can afford to live. SSA keeps people alive & out of poverty. This is awful.

NOAA Cuts Leave Wind Chimes As Sole Predictor Of Approaching Hurricanes

NASA says Lunar Trailblazer, the JPL lunar orbiter that launched as a rideshare on IM-2's Falcon 9, is experiencing intermittent power problems. blogs.nasa.gov/trailblazer/

YOUR FAVORITE WEATHER APP IS JUST A PRETTY DISPLAY OF NOAA DATA Ppl seem to think that "NOAA weather forecasts" means climate-, boat-, or "in addition to my app"-weather. But the weather forecasts *we all use* are made from the NOAA data *we all paid for* Make that part clear when you ⬇️

To honor Vera Rubin: "As science strives to learn more about invisible matter, let us hope that we don't see a halt or even a reversal in the struggle to use all available brains in confronting the deep mysteries of the universe." 🧪🔭 www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...

The firings at NOAA yesterday are just brutal. So many wonderful, dedicated people doing work that improves everyday life. This is devastating. Wondering how NOAA's work actually helps you? Read below:

Breaking: Trump's full trans military ban has just dropped. Quickly reading it, it appears to be a full separation from the military for all transgender military members, and states being trans is inconsistent with "honesty, humility, uniformity, and integrity." A sad day for this nation.

Finally. A major media outlet has finally reported on Trump’s total travel ban for transgender visa applicants seeking the United States. I had to scream for two days to get someone else to report on it. It is NOT just for athletes. www.the-independent.com/news/world/a...

A vote to cut Medicaid by $880 billion is basically a vote in favor of mass death.

Very soon, a rocket carrying Intuitive Machines-2 #IM2 and NASA’s #LunarTrailblazer will launch and begin the journey to the Moon. 🧪🛰️🌕 🚀 📸:Gregory H. Revera https://eos.org/tag/moon

EVERYONE LOOK AT THIS PHOTO This *gorgeous* view of the Moon was taken by the @firefly-aerospace.bsky.social Blue Ghost lander from an altitude of 100 km above the lunar farside on Monday. Blue Ghost is aiming for a landing on the Moon on Sunday.

Friends, today I received some really disappointing professional news that directly affects me and a great team of scientists and engineers I've been working with for more than three years. I want to share what this news means with you—and why there's a silver lining in it.

geodesics are gay, I don't make the rules

Massive encroachment by Bezos into The Washington Post’s opinion section - makes clear dissenting views will not be published I still have not felt encroachment on my journalism on the news side, but if Bezos tries interfering with the news side I will be quitting immediately and letting you know

I called & emailed my congresspeople today, left messages for my 2 senators & spoke to a staffer in my representative's office. I asked them to fund the U.S. science enterprise & expressed concern at the attacks on federal scientists & agencies. One call might not mean much, but it's not nothing.

All the folks who exited NBC today. Seen together, hoo boy. Message received.

"When New Scientist asked explicitly if human-caused climate change played any role in the record high temperatures, the NOAA press representative abruptly ended the call, saying, “I’m not seeing any more on-topic questions from the media""

And I am an ally. If you are too, let the world know.

If you're an American Geophysical Union member, my article about the Dragonfly mission to Titan is the top story in this week's newsletter! And if you aren't, you can still read it because it's online for free! eos.org/features/a-d...

Wow. I don't think we've seen any images from an X-37B* flight before. *secretive military mini-space shuttle

Rapidly traveling between climate zones, all with different average temperatures, humidities, and oxygen levels, will place extra heat stress on #FIFAWorldCup players, staff, and spectators. 🧪⚽️ eos.org/articles/soc...

NEW: Pregnancy became far more dangerous in Texas after the state banned abortion, according to ProPublica’s first-of-its-kind analysis, which found the sepsis rate for women hospitalized as they miscarried in the 2nd trimester shot up by more than 50%. https://propub.li/43487Tj

Ok, I don't have to like rap or hip hop music to really, really love and appreciate what Kendrick did with the halftime show. Dang, that was good. "The revolution 'bout to be televised. You picked the right time but the wrong guy."

ASL interpreters who work in the arts (concerts, opera, theatre, etc) deserve to be valued as artists too. it takes so much skill to be this good at capturing the FEEL of music beyond just translating the meaning of the text and it’s an invaluable accessibility service

Oh look, it's me from yesterday 🙂 Pro tip: you can also craft

Superb.

Sometimes you just need all the meetings to be next week so that you can get some writing done before the weekend. Today is that day ✍️
