Looking forward to it. Your newsletter is single-handedly sustaining my sanity these days. Thank you for everything you do 🙏🏻

It seems like it would be fairly easy for them (LinkedIn) to tweak their algorithm in a defensible way.

I’m convinced Trump is preparing for war. Whether it’s occupying Greenland or advancing into Canada or Mexico. The resulting protests will be enough for him to initiate martial law.

OpenAI shares many similarities with Trump’s regime. They are both attacking higher education, the creative class and seeking control of the media and information. OpenAI is not about tech innovation, it’s about consolidation of power.

OpenAI’s goals are similar to the Trump regime’s. They both are attacking higher education, the creative class and attempting to control the distribution and censorship of media. It’s not about tech innovation, it’s about consolidation of power imo.

Years from now, we won't talk about how AI improved the lives of humans, but rather what role it played in the rise of authoritarianism in America and the destruction of the creative and professorial classes.

AI is not merely a tool, it's a virus. One that grows by consuming and pirating the world's content.

The goal is to weaken and destroy opposition, and ultimately own the distribution of information, written and visual. Whether that's Google, higher education or the creative class – OpenAI is seeking to undermine and destroy them all.

While our politicians wage war against our schools and freedoms, OpenAI is arguably doing the same, albeit in more subtle predatory ways.

By flattening creative expression, it turns art into a commodity, one devoid of the craft, power and influence it once had. This is not entirely dissimilar from the current war on education and freedom of speech.

One thought I had recently — I think there is some meat around AI and how it represents an anti-Rand philosophy in many ways. Stealing from real creators and artists, to create some farcical value. Could be a follow up article 👀

I enjoyed your analysis a great deal. As someone who read a bunch of Rand when I was young, it wasn’t til years later that I realized how shallow her ideas were. I recently read “The End of Reality” by Jonathan Taplin and he had some pretty interesting commentary on Rand, Andreesen and Musk.

Yes and rethink modern capitalism. Cap C Suite comp, put workers on the same level as shareholders and increase wages a % of revenue that improves quality of life for millions.

Dems need to go on the offensive w/ all the tech oligarchs. Musk, Zuckerberg, Thiel and Andreesen. These weirdos have a vision of the future that isn’t just maga, it’s anti-American. Change the narrative. Stop JUST reacting to Trump. Mobilize against the tech elite. People will respond.
comment in response to post
Reactionary tactics that will go nowhere are not going to invigorate Dems in any way. I get doing SOMETHING, but we need to go on the offensive, not just react to everything Trump says and does. Dems need to create their own agenda & attack plan, that isn’t 100% focused on Trump or what he’s doing.

Same. Instantly and without reservation. Granted I’m a huge Kendrick fan and I knew every song, lyric etc but it was true art imo.

100% THIS is the way.

Thanks for sharing. I briefly skimmed it but would need time to fully digest. Generally, I am cautious to trust orgs selling and heavily investing in AI, as any kind of neutral or independent source of AI studies.

Eh, a calculator is never wrong so not sure that’s a good comp. I’m not a developer but I’d think not completely understanding what you’re building, might be problematic when vulnerabilities or issues occur in the future. Moving faster is great until you know idea how you got where you are.

I think AI is most dangerous for those without access to an education. AI is at its core authoritarian, not educational. It repeats the past, including the past’s errors and faulty assumptions. What happens when the uneducated use AI that has an ideological bias? Still a net positive?
comment in response to post
I think if you were more critical Mark, the last thing you would do is encourage your kids to use AI in every shape and form. I wonder when ideological bias is introduced to American models if you’ll still believe this.
comment in response to post
I’ve engaged w/ AI systems on an exploratory level and I still believe their value is greatly overstated. Everyone using the same past data to get the same conclusions, is not creative or groundbreaking. Learning is not about getting an answer as quickly as possible, it’s the process itself
comment in response to post
Nah, Mark this take ain’t it. AI will not “only get more advanced.” This is an inevitability fallacy. People who rely on AI won’t be smarter, they’ll be more reliant on it. Erosion of critical thinking.
comment in response to post
What you’re describing is what many would classify as “bullshitting.” Yes, you could use AI to bullshit your way through SOME problems, but that doesn’t mean you’re actually smarter. It doesn’t mean you’re learning anything.
comment in response to post
What jobs? Lmao Critical thinking is a real competitive advantage.
comment in response to post
Not when that access can erode critical thinking skills. Not when AI models face the potential of having ideological bias imposed on them. Have you read any of the studies on erosion of critical thinking skills?
comment in response to post
We need skepticism Mark. Have you read Dan McQuillan’s book, Resist AI? If not, I greatly recommend you do. It might add some nuance to your AI take.

Love it. Would love to help. Can’t seem to get in contact w/ anyone. I honestly believe if the landing page, campaign and brand creative were elevated, it would help you raise more money. Right now, the message is good but the creative gives untrustworthy, “is this real” vibes.
comment in response to post
I think Trump will be pretty happy w/ Musk if he succeeds at forcing right wing ideology and their “facts” on American AI models. Control information and you control everything. First it was the press, then social media (Meta moderation), then Google (search next?) and AI is the final nail.
comment in response to post
Elon Musk and Trump are inviting domestic terrorism on our country.
comment in response to post
Wow, I didn’t consider this take at all. It’s about to get very scary.
comment in response to post
You’re right Mark, but I think focusing purely on the monetary aspect misses the real danger. The company that will win, is the one willing to imprint Trump’s ideology onto their models (govt & public models). Money is the motivator, but it’s the concessions made for money that will be dangerous
comment in response to post
It’s really been extremely disgusting.
comment in response to post
We need unity amongst liberals/democrats, not a splintering of leftist vs militant vs anarchist etc. This whole post-mortem of liberalism doesn’t help and is really a microcosm of the problem. We over-intellectualize politics, instead of fighting together with one voice.

This should be an ongoing series 🤣

Someone should create a website specifically to document DOGE’s activities and public claims. With a big disclaimer that it may all be incorrect and usually is. Also, we should add estimated costs, the DOGE team and potential consequences for each move or target they go after.
