Making progress holding boundaries against abusive behaviors, and making space for more community building efforts in my own home. Also tired. Looking forward to a day of rest.

After an especially difficult winter holiday season, and a massive escalation of abuse from family, I'm starting to feel a small amount of hope I can rebuild again... again.

It's nice to see your joy.

Hanging in there. Clawing back what's mine, making very slow progress, but remaining focused.

"We’ll be here. But they sure as hell won’t get the first pick of the lettuce." "Fair enough. I’m glad we’re neighbors." "Me too, young’n. You’ve got more sense than most. I’m glad I don’t have to worry about you. C'mon, let's go check on our other neighbor, make sure he's OK." (9/9)

"They think ‘cause I’m a simple farmer, I like it when things break? I may be slow, but I ain’t stupid." "So what do we do?" "We do what we always do. We survive. We work. We keep the land from turning to dust. And when the folks who tore it all down come wanderin’ back…" (8/9)

"So you think they’re making a mistake?" "They’re mistaking the sound of a falling tree for the sound of progress." "But they keep saying this is what regular folks want." He scoffed. "Ain’t no regular folk I know askin’ to get their pockets picked while their house burns down." (7/9)

"They said it’s about making things simpler." "You ever see a simple farm? No. Farms are complicated. You need rain at the right time, pests to stay where they belong, the cows to not eat the grain, the dog to not eat the cows, and your nephew Todd to not eat the dog. Simple ain’t real." (6/9)

"Young’n, I move at the speed of erosion, and even I know that’s stupid. You don’t shake up a beehive unless you want a face full of regret. You don’t tear down your barn before winter. And you sure as hell don’t pick fights with neighbors when your roof’s got holes in it." (5/9)

"Next thing you know, coyotes are in the henhouse, rattlers in the feed bin, and some jackrabbit’s got your wife’s good china." "I think they’re saying this is just how progress works. Gotta shake things up. Break the system." (4/9)

"Yeah. The government’s being torn down, our allies trampled, and somehow, our enemies are making off with everything that isn’t nailed down." He blinked. "Ain’t that just the way? You spend years buildin’ a fence, and some genius says, ‘Let’s take it down, see what happens.’" (3/9)

"Howdy, neighbor. How’s it goin’?" He grunted, coughed up a bit of phlegm, and stared at the horizon. "You ever feel like the world’s just… unraveling?" "Young’n, I been alive a hundred and eighty years. Seen droughts, floods, locusts, politicians. But I ain’t never seen a mess like this." (2/9)

You’re not alone. Many kind, brave souls walk this path—laughing, setting boundaries, and making sure the cycle ends here. So raise a glass (or a well-earned cup of tea). You’ve done the work, and it shows. With admiration and mischief, Your Keeper of the Sacred Side-Eye (4/4)

Love requires boundaries, accountability, and the radical choice to value well-being over tradition. For this, you are awarded the Golden Spatula of Generational Healing, a prestigious (if imaginary) honor granted only to those who refuse to stir the same old toxic stew. (2/4)

It's been hard staying engaged, maintaining focus with so much distraction. It's nice to see your face, like a flower before spring, a much needed reminder there is joy and beauty amidst all the cold and gloom.

How do we get facts from any government resource when authoritarian governments are known to lie and cover up stories?

Make them say the quiet part out loud.

When our enemies say the quiet part out loud, they lose allies, and become less powerful. The worst thing we can do is disappear. Hiding may offer short-term safety, but it lets our enemies grow stronger. Survival matters, but so does undermining their power. Don’t hide—expose their hostility.

Plausible deniability is how moderates support fascism. One way to alienate moderates is by forcing overt displays of cruelty. A fascist openly declaring, "I hope their home country deports them too!" might give a laugh, but it also disrupts the moderate’s comfort, making them hesitate to support.
