When a young friend was on the brink of taking his own life, Galway Kinnell wrote this lifeline of a poem to save him. It did. It has saved many of us. www.themarginalian.org/2016/05/16/w...

Chasten and I are relieved that Governor Shapiro and his family are safe. While we wait to learn more, this much is clear: the targeting of a public official and his family - especially a prominent Jewish official on a major Jewish holiday - is unconscionable and has no place in our country.

As the economic news keeps coming out over the coming weeks keep one thing in mind: this is the fault of one man and didn’t need to happen.

THIS. #HandsOff

On Monday our instagram account was hacked and then deleted. We received a ransom note to recover it; obviously we couldn't and wouldn't pay, and therefore lost thousands of followers. Meta support was useless. But we're BACK with a new account: @littletollerbooks. Can you follow us there and share?

Hey Democratic leadership, this Hegseth story right here? It's a big fucking deal, and you should be eager to hammer the shit out of the Trump admin over it. Don't play nice. There's no need to wait for further details. You need to mercilessly attack them over this.

Big turnout for other "empty chair" town hall, this time for the two AWOL Ohio senators in Columbus www.facebook.com/christinapao...

Congressman Al Green Joins the National Association of Letter Carriers Branch 283 to Rally Against the Privatization of the United States Postal Service. Watch the live stream at 1:00 p.m. CST by clicking here: www.facebook.com/repalgreen?m...

In June 2017 a-ha recorded a live acoustic album during two performances in Giske, Norway. A couple of hundred people were lucky enough to be present on those special nights…

They're called public records for a reason. Starting today, WIRED will *stop paywalling* articles that are primarily based on public records obtained through the Freedom of Information Act, becoming the first publication to partner with @freedom.press to offer this for our new coverage.

DAILY DEMS DOING THE WORK, MAKING NOISE, AND FIGHTING BACK Day 49 I know I’m a broken record, but if I highlight someone, and you like what they’re doing, give them a follow, comment on their posts, help me lift them up! Here are some of today’s fighters! 🧵

MASSACHUSETTS!! Specifically, Newton! You might have a school board election TUESDAY!!!! Alicia Piedalue is running unopposed but from what I can tell, she’s great, and wouldn’t it be cool if she just gets a lot of support It’s important to get in the habit of voting in every single election

🐓 Just because your elected official is a coward doesn’t mean you can’t hold them accountable. Another congressional recess is happening right now, and our groups are organizing to get the attention of our senators and representatives. Let’s get to work: indivisible.org/muskorus

In this interview Schumer says he agrees with Trump’s decision to pull $400 million from Columbia. A university in his own state. And he’s unconcerned about the unlawful arrest of Mahmoud Khalil, one of his constituents. He is a traitor who needs to resign.

This is Chuck. Chuck is selling a book. Chuck also has a full-time job. I would consider buying Chuck’s book if he were doing that job, but he’s not. Don’t be like Chuck. And don’t buy Chuck’s book.

Can’t emphasize this enough: if you’re feeling overwhelmed by the debased assault on our country, the antidote is connecting with other people in the flesh who are feeling the same way. There are millions of us.

If you attack the Capitol to overturn election results and to overthrow democracy on behalf of a criminal, you’re a hero. If you attack a Tesla dealership, we’ll throw away the key.

There are still wins happening right now. Who knows, may be hearing about them will make you feel better. In Des Moines IA’s East Village they have pride and progress flags on the sidewalk of one intersection, and the city council just ruled UNANIMOUSLY that the project will stay up till Mar 2028!

Hi, we are an alternative to Amazon-owned Audible 👋🏻 With us, you select the independent bookshop you want to support (we have 3,000+ partners across the globe), and we share profits from your purchase with them. We're also employee-owned and a registered Social Purpose Corporation.

Today Donald Trump attacked me by name in a speech at the Department of Justice. Of course I am worried, but courage comes from acting in spite of being worried. I have made my choice: I will continue to speak out, I will continue to litigate, I will continue to stand tall. I will never bow down.

Among the material devastation to everyday people, Senate Dems have now blown a hole in their ability to work with the House. We had an agreed upon plan, House took immense risk, then Senate turned around midway and destroyed it w/ a fear-based, inexplicable abdication. They own what happens next.

Think about that 60-some-year-old South Korean senator who was literally climbing over walls to vote for impeachment as martial law was imposed in the country and then looking at…. Chuck Schumer.

None of what’s happened here the last 10 years would’ve happened without many thousands of institutionally powerful people rolling over and playing dead. Chuck Schumer is just the latest. The lesson for anyone who will listen is don’t be one of those people. Find your spine. Hold your seat.

A YES on cloture is a YES for the bill. Do not let anyone play games with you.

I think some in the Senate have convinced themselves that the backlash to folding will be limited to “the left” and therefore ignorable. Those people are deeply and profoundly misreading the moment and the stakes. Virtually every swing district House Dem walked the plank to vote NO for a reason.

Schumer Fight Back or Step Down emergency rally outside @schumer.senate.gov’s at 9am FRI morning at 780 3rd Ave NYC to tell him to vote NO on cloture & the Trump/Musk budget! @indivisible.org @popdemocaction.bsky.social @bkindivisible.bsky.social

The CR passed in the House will provide a blank check for Trump and Musk to continue their savage war against working families, the elderly, children, the sick and the poor in order to lay the groundwork for massive tax breaks for billionaires. This is a bill I cannot support.

If I’m a young leader in the Dem party, I’m having lots of conversations tonight with other young leads about how we either mutiny and take it over immediately, or start something new asap. Schumer’s party is dead either way.

AOC slammed Mike Johnson, saying: “You run the government. If you have the votes, then go ahead. If you need Democrats, then you need to negotiate with Democrats. Those are your two options. Blaming someone else because your shoes are untied isn’t one.”

Just a reminder for aspiring writers out there: - it took me 10 years to find the right agent - my first 4 books never got published (and one in the middle) - my daily goal for writing is just 500 words - it’s mostly luck & showing up - spite is my main motivator - I still have imposter syndrome

House Democrats stand united for a four-week funding extension that stops harmful cuts, keeps government open, and allows Congress to reach a bipartisan funding agreement. I am ready to vote today, tomorrow or Friday to pass a four-week extension.

No, Mr. President, you cannot illegally arrest and detain legal US residents because of their political views or opinions. In America, we have a little something called the First Amendment. Throwing protesters in jail is yet another step on the path to authoritarianism.

Meditate today, even just for five minutes. Then afterwards, if you’re feeling unsafe in this world, take one action to aid the safety of someone who is less safe than you. We get through this together.

On March 10, 1913, Harriet Tubman passed, but escaping slavery in 1849 to fighting oppression and leading countless to freedom through the Underground Railroad has ensured her legacy of resistance endures. 163 days until Slavery Remembrance Day. #CountdowntoSRD

Every single Democratic Senator voted for Marco Rubio as Sec of State!

Sojourner Truth fought slavery through powerful speeches, activism, and legal action. Her “Ain’t I a Woman?” speech challenged racial and gender oppression, and her legal victory in freeing her son was groundbreaking. 164 days to Slavery Remembrance Day. #CountDowntoSRD

When Amazon launched in 1995, there were 5,500 indie bookshops in the U.S., with 7,000 locations. By May of 2023, that number had decreased to 2,185 indies & 2,599 locations. When you purchase audiobooks via Libro.fm vs. Audible, you directly support indie bookshops. Let's make that number grow ❤️

That is exactly true.
