Water is a critical national resource. It's part of our commons and belongs to all of us. Yet a decades long ideological commitment to privatisation has seen water treated as a commodity, a profit extraction vehicle that exists to enrich a small few at the expense of the many. We can do it better.

Good evening all. Two new handmade #Easter chick ornaments have just dropped into my etsy shop. These are blank on the back so that you can add a message. Pair with an Easter egg for an extra gift. earthandsandbyanna.etsy.com/listing/1893... #gifts #handmade #shopindie

Those trying to justify Labours cuts by saying “well, those people will be back in work soon” need to realise MANY ON UC ARE IN WORK. They’re subsidised by welfare because their employers don’t pay enough and probably make huge profits whilst evading tax as the “party of workers” looks the other way

🛑STOP PRESS 🛑 This is HUGE news 🎉🎉🎉 The Environment Agency has said it will review the legal framework around exporting car tyres in response to our threat of court proceedings. Thanks to everyone who backed our work. fightingdirty.org/major-victor...

These crippling levels of child poverty cannot continue. The government should make sure every child has the best start in life and invest in the next generation so that no child is left behind. 🔗 bit.ly/3E7dd7b

"15,600+ children’s names. [For] the first 27 pages the age is listed as 0 — children under 1 year old" Every last one someone's precious daughter or son. The statistical face of the mass extermination of innocents in our time.

"The health ministry has released a 1,516–page document listing the names of over 50,000 Palestinians confirmed killed in Gaza since Oct 7, 2023. There are a total of 474 pages listing 15,600+ children’s names. The first 27 pages the age is listed as 0 — children under 1 year old" Sharif Kouddous

A look at today's Households Below Average Income stats reveals alarming numbers, with a record 4.5 million children in poverty. The Gov's own impact assessment shows that the cuts announced yesterday will cause this number to rise. Rather than cut benefits the Gov should scrap the 2-child limit.

I spoke last night to Burnhow Hotel Book Club in Bowness #Cumbria. The hill, Post Knott, a short distance from the hotel is so named because the rural postman would blow his horn from the top to let Bowness folk know he was on his way. I feel I should have blown a horn there ahead of the meeting!

9 children in an average class of 30 are growing up in poverty. That cannot be right in the world's sixth richest country. The government must invest in the next generation – it can make an immediate start by making #FreeSchoolMealsForAll a reality: freeschoolmealsforall.org.uk/take-action

The cull has killed over 220,000 innocent badgers. It's time to END this cruelty. Help us hit 100k signatures, and it’ll be considered in Parliament. Sign NOW! 👇https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/700317

Rachel Reeves had options. Instead of taxing the super-rich, she slashed benefits – leaving 3.2 million families £1,700 worse off. Charities are scathing. Read what the Resolution Foundation has to say about the Spring Statement. @eastangliabylines.co.uk

Don't know how much clearer I can state this, asylum seekers do not qualify for social housing. If your claim is successful you can apply. However, you are unlikely to be bumped up the queue. Partic. in high demand areas. Presenting this scenario as anything else is utter bollocks.

Labour welfare cuts: bad for people, the party and the public purse Labour’s planned cuts to disability benefits have been rightly condemned for targeting the vulnerable, but they’re also economic nonsense By Jennie Kermode for @yorkshirebylines.co.uk

⚠️ With no mention of school funding, Chancellor @RachelReevesMP made a choice this #SpringForecast: To continue to deprive school budgets. To refuse to start properly funding schools. This is not the change that this Government promised.

Welfare cuts will hit vulnerable children hardest, pushing 50,000 into relative poverty. The government has pledged to increase opportunities for working class children, but today's announcement means more families will be cut adrift.

Rachel Reeves is right that the world has changed - so why won’t she change her strategy to reflect it? Rigid adherence to arbitrary fiscal rules & refusing wealth taxes is a political choice that’s causing huge pain & harm, as well as laying out the welcome mat for the populists at Reform UK

MPs getting a 2.8% pay rise is indefensible when the Chancellor is set to announce the biggest cuts to disability benefits on record tomorrow. It’s simple: MPs can just donate the extra pay. I’m giving mine to disabled people’s organisations & urge my colleagues to do the same.

Exactly

The apartheid state has been crashing out for about a year and a half, but terrorizing an Oscar winner is a new milestone in their meltdown. There's no turning back from this.

Fiscal rules are works of fiction. They are as made up as fairy tales are, and yet the Chancellor is asking us to believe that she should manage the economy by complying with them. Why is she so deeply misguided, whilst taking us for fools? youtu.be/aYl-x0Y5SJE?...

Thousands of eligible UK workers are denied the statutory minimum wage. 2019: 428,000 2023: 351,000 2024: 371,000 Denial of minimum wage increases misery; boosts profits, exec pay and dividends. No business/director prosecuted. Puny fines encourage rogue bosses to game the system. Join a union.

“Reeves is right to call growth our only hope. But Brexit is a great drag on that ambition. The independent regulator has announced a £2,500 pay rise for MPs. At a time when disabled people are facing the biggest cuts to disability benefits on record, this is simply wrong. I’ll be donating mine to charities supporting disabled people in Coventry & across the country.

PIP (personal independence payment) is NOT an out of work benefit. It is there to support the independence of a person. Often, it is money that makes work accessible for a person with disabilities. And sometimes it just makes things easier, as it is expensive to be disabled. #DisabilityRights

Are you listening, @schumer.senate.gov? She's talking about you. And that crowd in Tempe, AZ agrees with what she's saying. For the good of the country and democracy, step down as Senate Minority Leader. It's clear you don't have the fight in you, and we need a leader who knows how to fight.

What troubles me about Columbia, an institution I was associated with for 34 years, is that the actions of the Trump administration serve as a test case for future pressure on other universities, many of which lack the resources to fight. Things are gonna suck for academia in the US.

🚨 NEW: The Equality and Human Right Commission is investigating Labour’s benefits cuts for potentially breaching the Equality Act

“The intake began with slaps. One young man sobbed when a guard pushed him to the floor. He said, ‘I’m not a gang member. I’m gay. I’m a barber.’ I believed him. But maybe it’s only because he didn’t look like what I had expected — he wasn’t a tattooed monster.”

AOC: We need to be taxing the rich on the floor of the Congress We need to be establishing guaranteed healthcare on the floor of the Congress We need to be passing a living wage on the floor of the Congress

New UK minimum wage for an over-21 full-time worker will be £22,222 a year before tax and NIC. A single person needs to earn £28,000 a year for minimum acceptable std of living. A couple with 2 children needs £69,400. Millions in poverty. Save for pension, buy home? Poverty institutionalized.

It is never a good sign in politics when your main narrative is "things could be worse", rather than "we are making things better". Labour are banking on people supporting them no matter what. That is bad politics, guaranteed way to lose supporters . #r4today www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2025...

Can’t make this up.

Stop selling arms to Israel then, and start imposing sanctions.

UK billionaires added £182,000,000,000 to their wealth last year. That’s £35,000,000 every single day. Their combined wealth is £795,361,000,000. So don't let anyone tell you austerity is a “necessity”. There’s more than enough wealth to fund our NHS, public services & welfare.

As @trusselluk.bsky.social point out with at least a year before these cruel cuts come into force there’s still time for the government to rethink. You can help the call for the government to change course by emailing your MP now using this tool👇 action.trussell.org.uk/disability-c...
