My FIL who usually just texts to dunk on my politics today sent a serious msg gently asking if his grandkids’ measles vaccines were up to date. At least we agree on something. #cdnpoli #publichealth

If you’re wondering what the general vibes are in Canada right now, every grocery store is brightly labeling which products are made in Canada and I, a person who abhors guns, just Googled the requirements for a firearms license.

Just when I thought I already max loved this pod they did an episode on Terry Fox! The hope, heroism, and heartbreak never fades. Thanks @nicolacoughlanbr.bsky.social #Canada #TerryFox #cdnhistory #cancer #MarathonofHope podcasts.apple.com/ca/podcast/h...

If you told me I had to give a TED talk with less than 5 minutes notice, it would be on this. Everybody wants a village but nobody wants to be a villager. If you think "The best plans are cancelled plans!" then 1- Stop making plans and 2- Stop complaining about being lonely and isolated.

You haven’t lived until you see a 5 year old belt out ACDC’s TNT on the daycare karaoke machine. The song came out in 1975, the kid was born in 2019, and they are too young to read lyrics yet so are singing entirely from memory. I need to shake these parents’ hands.

MFer I grew up before NAFTA. I didn't have an avocado until I was 15 years old. I ate lunch in a Zellers cafeteria. I thought Robin Hood was just a guy who made flour. I was made for this moment.

Not sure how to articulate what it feels like to be standing on the precipice of your country’s financial ruin because a bunch of Americans were mad they aren’t allowed to use racial slurs anymore.

Fire in Eau Claire. Looks like the empty green roof townhouses (next to the Eau Claire Market) that the City started demolishing a few days ago. The area is really starting to smell like smoke rn. #yyc

Had a conversation with a client today about the ways we pathologize abusive men to explain/justify their behaviour. I hear it all the time when I tell my story, too; that my abuser must have been mentally ill, struggling, etc. Truth is, a lot of men beat women because they benefit from it.

Trump is giving strong when Biff becomes mayor in Back to the Future II vibes. And also he kind of looks like Future Biff. #uspoli #canpoli #cdnpoli #inauguration

Priceless.

Making fun of someone’s looks is low hanging fruit. Many kids look up to professional athletes and this type of bullying and mocking behaviour lowers the reputation of the athlete and the league. #NHL #Canucks

There is no cellphone battery powerful enough for a Liberal mom hocking both membership forms for a leadership race and kids stuff on FB Marketplace. #cdnpoli

Pierre Poilievre is only "inevitably" the next Prime Minister if we say so. New Brunswick and Manitoba used their last two provincial elections to send bigots packing. We can do it nationally if we want to.

Fun fact: Christy Clark won a greater share of seats in the 2013 and 2017 provincial elections than any federal Liberal Leader won in B.C. in any federal election in Canadian history.

What a life. Just wow. His comments when receiving the Nobel Peace Prize are prescient today - RIP #JimmyCarter www.cbc.ca/news/world/j... #Carter

Great reminder. Way back E. Gidengil/Canadian Election Study did a similar test during the sponsorship inquiry. A fraction of Cdns could name its head Justice Gomery despite it often referred to as the Gomery Commission/Inquiry. People learn & remember what they need to get thru their days. #cdnpoli

He had been practicing law for 3 years! Amazing story and piece of Canadian history - www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

Because of a recent piece in The New Yorker, people are talking about Alice Munro again. This summer, I was asked to write a piece about what Munro's choices tell us about the shockingly common reality of incest and complicity.

Merry Christmas to all the parents of newborns who are up late for feedings and experiencing a merged Christmas Eve + Christmas morning experience. Trust that next year it will be better, and in fact, quite magical.

Wrapping presents at my Dad’s place with this tape holder he’s had for as long as I can remember. I asked him when he bought it. Answer: 1976. My “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it” hero.

If anybody is looking for a wholesome and brain-friendly holiday activity, my family holds a lighthearted annual jigsaw puzzle competition that is open to all to join. Rules are pasted below. This year’s puzzle is Cobble Hill “Santa’s Tree” and it’s available on Amazon and elsewhere. #Christmas

Must boost for the venn diagram sliver of people familiar with both feuds… and yes we need more tea to determine who is the Lauren. #canucks

This is the greatest hits of rape culture, its poor defences, and the connection between sexual violence against women and also children. Ay caramba. www.cbc.ca/news/world/g...

The kids are all right.

How am I supposed to tackle my day’s 100 mundane holiday tasks when it’s the surprise spiciest political day of the year. #Freeland #cdnpoli

Finally someone talking about the gingerbread trade deficit.

Behind every successful baby passport photo is an absolutely wrecked parent.

This Canada Post strike is the small moral victory those of us who never pull it together for holiday cards needed.

These are fair reviews. I’m impressed Eli Glasner made it thru them all. I had to turn off that one about the strippers. www.cbc.ca/news/enterta...

Femicide. 35 years ago. Never stop being enraged, sisters, for we continue to suffer at the hands of men. Say their names but never speak his. I will not forget you, my sisters. #misogyny #femicide #canada #cdn #sayhername #metoo #YesAllWomen #Montreal #feminism

If aliens came down to earth and asked for my opinion on who should rule the earth, I'm going with librarians and Dolly Parton.
