I would think a good portion of Republicans are affected by what is going on, though perhaps it has not trickled down to them yet. If so, just reinforces that they will vote against their own financial interests if they can harm people they hate. While I vote against mine to help everyone.

I don't think it is caving, I think it is because he agrees with what Putin is doing. We now know that Trump has colonial aspirations of his own, so likely admires what Putin has accomplished. Also, he admires strength and hates 'losers,' and I feel that is how he sees Putin and Zelensky.
