#Germany #election I cannot tell you how relieved I am about the turnout of 84%. People have come out against the far-right, despite (polls say) overall pessimism and unhappiness with the democratic choice.

A greeting for negligent penpals and procrastinating authors. Postcard from my collection, 1911.

Good Sunday morning Wishing you a day of unexpected surprises and positive connections...

71 breakfasts served this morning to a grateful lot of guests. The stats this year so far. Jan 2,266 breakfasts served Feb 1,567 month to date. That’s a LOT of food , bought with donations & grants , served by volunteers. @bigbreakfastplus.bsky.social

Your periodic reminder that, 150 years ago, a desire to read fiction was considered both a sign of mental illness in women and a symptom of it. The groups devoted to banning some books because they're "immoral", "obscene", etc. are just growths from the same bad root.

Tiptoe through the tulips but never while reading as you’ll just squash the tulips and eventually trip.

Happy Sunday! ☀️ I'm not lazy. 😺 I'm just recharging my battery. 🌞😸

Thanks aways @lucyantal.bsky.social for being my eyes on the paper. Celebrating the brilliant, witty and hospitable Gillian Riley!

getting tattooed by a Hungarian artist visiting London on Tuesday and she probably thinks I'll be the one dealing with pain on the day but I would argue that being forced to spend an hour with me as I go through every Hungarian novel I've enjoyed will absolutely make the appointment worse for her

I love O BROTHER, WHERE ART THOU? almost irrationally. George Clooney is just about at his funniest best as an insufferable blowhard. Even John Turturro's teeth are funny. A film that is as much of a pleasure to listen to as it is to watch.

This week in Canada we recognize that schools and libraries are regularly asked to remove books and magazines from their shelves. Please share. #FreedomToRead freedomtoread.ca

Every artist I know is really struggling right now. Financially, emotionally, their confidence, in general. If you like an artist's work, support them any way you can. Buying their stuff or subscribing to their Patreon is great, but words of encouragement are also incredibly helpful.

today I went to the library and got a library card!!!!!!

It’s irresponsible to release puns into the wild before they are fully groan.

haven’t made this since university. a mad old delia smith recipe for basque style chicken: onions and peppers stirred with rice and chorizo then covered in broth and cider before baking with the chicken and olives on top with tangerine segments <no oranges on the house> should be nice later.

I have a sneaking suspicion one of our trees may be Italian.

Who is responsible for this? 🤣

Upon this response, JK burst into a million shards and a great wind scattered her unhappy soul beneath the arc of a newly formed rainbow.

Absolutely

'Thousand hole pancakes' for breakfast. These are Baghrir/ Beghrir from Morocco made with yeast, semolina and plain flour & traditionally served with melted butter and honey syrup. I've added blood orange juice to mine. I love how the honey references the honeycomb pattern of the pancake's surface.

Today's book: "Frankenstein" by Mary Shelley. I feel like this book has featured a fair amount in my responses to those fun #BookishQOTD prompts lately, so it's been bumped up in my reading list. #BookSky 💙📚 #CurrentlyReading 📖

ICONIC: Yosemite National Park workers just hung an upside-down American flag—THOUSANDS of feet up on El Capitan. That’s not decoration. That’s a distress signal. They’re telling us the country is in danger. Are you paying attention? www.sfchronicle.com/outdoors/art...

1. Brunch with a friend. 2. Reading a book. 3. More reading. 4. Even more reading. 5. Bluesky scrolling.

It’s been a day of blossom: driving for hours through California’s Central Valley, where the vast, military-ranked almond orchards were all in sweetly fragrant flower. And home to find the cherry under grey skies, past its frilly prime.

I have a public library card for the first time in my life (embarrassing! I know) and I’m absolutely drunk on power.
