It's not becoming central to any of these cases. But a huge part of every single one of these cases is the President's ability to make facially absurd findings of fact that aren't in practice susceptible to any review. So we're in a de facto state of war with a Venezualan street gang ... we're in ..

Strom Thurmond made his Senate record while fighting against Black voting rights. It stood for 67 years. A Black man is about to break it.

This is the Dem leadership we need at this moment! Thank you @corybooker.com and @chrismurphyct.bsky.social 🫶🏼 Let's see more @senatedemocrats.bsky.social join, please!

This is so blindingly obvious. But I'm still glad people within the world of Trumpism are willing to say it. And not just national security but economic/dynamism and prosperity which of course is the sine qua non, the necessary condition of national power.

📣"The entire Trump era could have been avoided if the US took white collar crime anywhere near as seriously as it does low level drug crime" 📣 📣THE ENTIRE TRUMP ERA COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED IF THE US TOOK WHITE COLLAR CRIME ANYWHERE NEAR AS SERIOUSLY AS IT DOES LOW LEVEL DRUG CRIME 📣

This is important. More than 700 Harvard faculty, with diverse views, have now signed a letter urging the university administration to "publicly condemn attacks on universities," "legally contest and refuse to comply with unlawful demands that threaten academic freedom" and +

New, free to all: The Signal disclosures implicate every facet of the failing but power-mad Trump administration. But for it to become an ur-scandal, Democrats will have to push hard, into places that generally make them uncomfortable. www.offmessage.net/p/the-everyt...

The right has united around a rejection of government as the solution to social problems. Which means they can generally agree to block new policies and programs. The left is united in its desire for government solutions. But that means they have to face the harder task of agreeing on what to do. 1/

The situation at the NIH and for all biomedical and cancer cure research in the United States is MUCH MUCH WORSE than you realize.

We are in the midst of what many consider the most promising pancreatic cancer cure research in decades. This is literally joining the War on Cancer on the side of cancer. It's happening in multiple departments. They're also attacking mRNA fax science which is the heart of the possible breakthrough.

Some harrowing new details about the Trump-Musk GOP’s new war on behalf of cancer www.statnews.com/2025/03/24/t...

Casar demonstrates how Democrats can effectively message on Fox News

Let me help Columbia’s president with a strategy for pleasing everyone: Don’t. Do the right thing, even if it pleases no one. Even if it doesn’t please YOU. Then apologize to no one.

A friend drove two hours today for her breast cancer chemotherapy only to learn it was canceled due to NIH cuts. Clinical trial ended midstream. No treatment, no restart, no plan, no information. Her bro-in-law's chemo was also canceled.

this stuff is happening across the country and even more intensively downstream of the veterans admin but it's happening in so many places at once and without any public notification that it's still only barely emerging in the news

New in PN: Trump moves to destroy Columbia University "It’s another corrupt quid pro quo like the one behind Trump’s 'perfect phone call' to Zelenskyy. Here, Columbia only gets federal funding if it agrees to violate the constitutional rights of both faculty and students on Trump's behalf."

#STEM folks stop what you’re doing and read this. All the coding, pipetting, and calculus won’t matter if our graduates aren’t humans.

This whole campaign is disgraceful. This administration which is riddled with actual antisemites is using antisemitism as a stalking horse for its campaign against all universities. A kind of elaborate and hideous gaslighting.

Scientists have just cured pancreatic cancer in some patients with personalized mRNA vaccines. Pancreatic cancer. And this Trump administration wants to throw it all away. They’re throwing away a cure for cancer.

Chuck Schumer Helps Pull Democrats Back From Brink Of Courage

I’m calling for new leadership in the Democratic Party. So many democrats want to do the right thing, but leadership is stopping them with the unspoken threat of refusing to give them leadership positions down the road. NEW DEM LEADERSHIP NOW!! #NewDemLeadership

I think some in the Senate have convinced themselves that the backlash to folding will be limited to “the left” and therefore ignorable. Those people are deeply and profoundly misreading the moment and the stakes. Virtually every swing district House Dem walked the plank to vote NO for a reason.

I’d like to ask every single New Yorker who’s remotely left of center to get actively involved in your local Democratic Party chapter with the goal of driving Schumer, Gillibrand, Hochul, Adams, Cuomo and all the other dead wood into retirement.

Spend every dime to win the house. Primary senators who sell out

Never vote for a D who supports this. This is utterly pathetic

Schumer is a disgrace

CALLS ARE WORKING - it has bought us precious time, but we NEED to keep the pressure up. Tomorrow is the cloture vote. KEEP CALLING: (202) 224-3121 ☎️☎️☎️ Tell your Dem Senator to vote NO on Cloture and NO on the Republican spending bill. Do NOT assume your Senator will be good on this. Trust me.

The leader of the opposition is 100% right on this one:

🚨 Everyone needs to call their Dem Senator right now. They are starting to cave. Tell them: 1. Vote NO on Cloture AND 2. Vote NO on the Republican spending bill. Don’t let them pivot to reconciliation. GOP doesn’t need Dem votes on that and they know it. TODAY is the showdown. 🤳🏽: (202) 224-3121

Like I said, I think this statement isn't on the level. I think - break my heart as it does - that this is Kabuki. If they do get to No, my position would be this. We'll vote on clean CR. And we'll even give you your DOGE stuff! On one condition. Put the cut plan for each dept on paper. And pass ...

DONT BELIEVE IT: Okay moments like this it’s totally fog of war. Not only ‘you don’t know what they really think’ but ‘THEY may not know what they really think’. But I’m picking up enough to tell me that this statement from Schumer may not be on the level.

VERY IMPORTANT: This is just a trick. It's a way for Democratic senator to say they oppose the bill while letting it pass. It's not much of a trick. I mean, everyone will see it. But still this is simply a way of hoodwinking constituents. If they want to vote for it just vote for it.

Here Are the Arguments for Why Senate Ds Should Vote Yes and Why They’re Wrong talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/here-...

This is one I'm bookmarking. So much good messaging in one post.

Said it many times now, including today on the pod: the signal failure these past weeks, distinctly Democratic, was failure to lay out conditions far in advance. No Dem votes for Big Lie nominees. No Dem CR votes unless the crime ends. Shape discourse at the outset—before they beat you to the punch.

Here's a key reason Senate Dems shouldn't vote for the CR: Trump and Musk are the ones who are *already* shutting down the government. That's the frame the public will use to understand what's happening. Check out my exchange with @tommalinowski.bsky.social on this: newrepublic.com/article/1925...

This feels like a bad situation for the Dems where option (a) is a government shutdown, and option (b) is tacit permission for DOGE to continue its dismantling of the administrative state; until you realize that Republicans are *already* shutting down the government. They must be made to stop.

Reminder: When a person or institution you hate is targeted for illiberal persecution by an aspiring authoritarian, you have to defend them EVEN IF you don't like them. It doesn't matter if you don't like campus protestors or Columbia or the law firms. We must defend them or we're all at risk next.

Re-upping this again as more people read about the Khalil case. More information to come, but nothing in WP and NYT so far contradicts original reporting. Again, it DOES NOT MATTER what you think about him or his cause. Either government is bound by the law for all of us or we're all at their mercy.

"I’d like to see him sifting through spiny naiad in 120-degree weather looking for parasitic snails. He’s the one that goes golfing on the government dime. I don’t even know how to golf.”

This is the beginning of a federal flood of junk science under the Trump regime. The aim is to break the public’s confidence in vaccines 👇
