I've been doing it a lot lately, too. And while it's completely understandable and acceptable to take a break if you're not feeling it, sometimes I need to remind myself to not take things for granted and that I can't count on being able to pick things up exactly how they were when I left them.

Thank you for everything you've given back to this community -- I really enjoy Rat Nights for getting our friends together outside of just music events -- and I recognize how much work it takes to organize something like that. Looking forward to whatever future the future holds to keep us together.

This is why I really dislike all of the meta-strategies people use now to make sure they get into instances right away. I mean I get it, that's just how it is, but it sucks that everybody who doesn't know/doesn't want an unfair advantage/forgets/whatever just ends up at a disadvantage to attending.

Once you get into it, the setup isn't too bad (although I agree with everyone saying better docs/tutorials are needed). imo the hard part is that once you implement it, you need to have an LD/operator at every event and there aren't a ton of them (but it's great to see that number growing!).

Yeah, I have some former coworkers I'm in a Discord server with and similar. I mostly worded it like that because I've seen a strong "you don't go to work to make friends, make your social life all outside of work" sentiment, but that can still be true without being a robot while on the clock!

This is where I'm at. I'm not 'friends' with my coworkers and we don't interact outside of work, but if I've gotta be there anyway I might as well try to find ways to enjoy it instead of treating everybody else like an NPC for the next 40 years. But I'm also lucky that most of my team gets that too.

I made a couple of changes somewhat recently, including dramatically reducing caffeine (I only have a little bit every morning, but at this point I could probably cut that too) and cutting out a bunch of added sugar, and the difference is staggering. I feel so much better all around. Good luck!

I love being up early, I just wish I could be better at going to bed early enough to do that

Not that it excuses the issue, but at least the IPD adjustment is a one-time thing that you will know pretty early on. Once you get it sorted out, you will probably never have to think about it again.

It's probably the scan, or with the focal distance. I started with 59 (as the scan suggested) and ended up swapping to 57; it's better to go lower because it's easier for your eyes to converge than diverge. They also used to recommend ordering your measured IPD -1/-2, not sure if still true tho.

I had an IPD mismatch (which was delayed a little bit due to the holidays, no fault there) and a asymmetric gasket (which they re-scanned and replaced for free).
While I absolutely still have some criticisms (nobody's perfect) my overall experience since more than makes up for those initial snags.

I hope this time you get a little break from being stiff and are able to just sit back and enjoy the event!

Couldn't agree more. Resolume is one of the best examples I can think of that reflects the "not every software company is Adobe and developers deserve to get paid for their work" value.

Concerns about the provider are valid, but I think a lot of the concerns would be the same no matter who's doing the verification; and if you don't trust anyone to do it I'm not sure what you want. You can't verify yourself without verifying yourself.

I understand that people have concerns, that's reasonable, but... everyone gets their choice to verify their age or the choice to not do it if they're not comfortable. I don't know how they could possibly do better than that. You can't verify yourself without verifying yourself, that's the point.

I've had a few instances across multiple different Microsoft applications (albeit some of them enterprise apps) where I've submitted feedback within the application and received a follow-up e-mail from someone within the specific product team within a couple of days and were very receptive of it.

There's a flag you can put in a SteamVR config file that will at least stop SteamVR from starting up when you plug in/turn on your trackers.
In the file 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\config\steamvr.vrsettings' add the following lines:
"power":
{
"autoLaunchSteamVROnButtonPress":false
}

I'd love to see more talk about how to make overflows a better experience too! It would be great to have more capacity at events, but in a way that's still a fun and unique experience beyond just opening up another instance and putting the stream on.
No idea what that might look like, though.

You're right, I completely forgot they had a metal version!

It's mechanical. It's made out of plastic so you don't really get the nice feel you get with a drafting pencil, but the rotating lead is a really neat concept so it gets extra points for that.

The Precise is a liquid ink pen so you get the smudges and dry time that come with it, but you also get bold, dark lines that don't fade as you keep writing like you get with gel inks.

Also, you didn't ask, but for pencils my pick is either a Rotring 600 drafting pencil (it's got a nice weight to it!) or a Uniball Kuru Toga Roulette (it rotates the 'lead' as you write so it never gets flat!). But you'll hardly ever catch me using pencil either way.

I've had a few over the years! Right now, my pick is the Pilot Precise v7 (with the Uniball Signo 207 a close second) for general writing and the Bic Round Stic Grip for scratch notes (so smooth!). All in 0.5mm (or even 0.3mm) if possible.
Always a hot take but I'm not a Pilot G2 fan. Too scratchy.
