American military equipment can’t be trusted. Canada needs to look elsewhere.

I'm sure we can find some middle ground between the original grandiose renderings and this new unassuming warehouse entrance right?

"The federal government moved to end its lease for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers office in Jacksonville, headquarters of the Jacksonville district and home to about 800 of the nearly 1,100 Florida-based employees." www.miamiherald.com/news/local/e...

Let’s be clear: This is the end result of 30 years of conservative thought. Small government, free markets, blah blah, all of it ended with this: the indiscriminate firing of the scientists who predict the fucking weather. Their goal is to literally drag us back into the dark ages.

Hallowed grounds

Inspired by @chittimarco.bsky.social I've done a brief look into Japanese level-crossings which are a big and difficult problem for Japanese railways. They've halved the number of them and upgraded almost all the remainder, but still way to go. Bottom left compares Tokyo to Paris.

Was poking around Albuquerque and spotted this really cool map by @humantransit.bsky.social’s team analyzing the connectivity of the city’s street network. Because most transit riders are not crows, street design matters to accessing transit and everything else.

Telling people "street safety is a shared responsibility" is like saying school shootings can be prevented with bulletproof backpacks, ignoring the root cause while placing the burden on victims. 📸 - @stlurbanists.bsky.social

wild read

The symbolism of the Obama era starting with the Miracle on the Hudson, a demonstration of the potential returns of competence and professionalism, while the Trump-Musk era starts with the Army blundering in front of an airliner on final approach, cannot be denied.

I missed this entirely: The FAA Administrator criticized Space X’s safety record and threatened fines. Musk demanded he resign. He did. On January 20th. www.thedailybeast.com/faa-chief-mi...

it's been a rough week so i thought i'd rotate a gyro for everyone. as a treat

Greyhound drivers may be rude, aggressive, and chronically late, but they sure as hell aren't snitches!

Probably one of the gayest and weirdest opinions of mine is I genuinely like minivans. I kinda want kids so I can have one

how is the jr app simultaneously so incredibly useful yet so unusable. Want to see a map? No, you’re going to safari. Want to see the trains on a line, plus any other operators on the line? We gottchya.

Got to attend a presentation today about a Toronto-Chicago passenger rail connection through Detroit/Windsor! Amtrak has been able to negotiate using the CPKC Detroit River Rail Tunnel once a day without affecting freight operations. (1/2)

hank won’t cross post what is, in my opinion, his best tweet, so i’ll just have to do it for him

I think the ppl freaking out abt how cold it is down here being climate change are being a tad dramatic. It’s kinda normal fir it to get cold down here. Plant City kinda needs a few weeks of cold temps for their strawberries to ripen.

Thanks, Governor Whitmer! www.detroitnews.com/story/news/p...

Thanks to everyone who showed up to this meeting during a blistery cold night. I can't recall an article that has been as positive towards a housing development as this. Showing up matters! Sterling Bay is going to fund a 41 Clybourn bus study because of my comment at the zoning committee!

finally got the phantom, it only took a week

100%. Musk spent a fortune on Twitter and drove it into the ground financially because he didn't care about ROI, he wanted to mess with a platform where "the left" thrived and organized. That was worth it to him. We see why, now.

Been a while since I peeked at the official Moscow tram map and it has somehow glowed up even more: mosmetro.ru/static/etp-n...

@wmata.com Metro Rewind Day is here! Check metrorewind.com for your report. 371 + MetroAccess for me. Not bad considering ~1/3 yr injured🤷‍♂️. Let’s see your #s as we are going to put all 1% in a raffle for 20 people to join me for a special visit to our new Control Center.

After talking with my international coworkers, I have to confirm that fl drivers are CLUELESS. Like in the northeast, they’re menaces because there so aggresive. Here, they simply do not know how to operate a vehicle. So much as asking them to change parking spots would cause a 4 car pileup.

The take I am most certain of that gets me in the most trouble is just "The reason homes are so expensive is because there are not enough of them, so we really really really need to build more of them."

These 1,000 men and women are heroes.

Periodic hot take that none of that should be private land. Access to oceans and major lakes and rivers should be public, and is going to be increasingly necessary in a rapidly heating world. We need free public places where people can cool off. Build tons of housing near, but not on, coastlines.
