We are speedrunning the Declaration of Independence, folks.

Trump is imposing a 10% tariff on the Heard and McDonald Islands. The Heard and McDonald Islands are uninhabited.

A thing that needs to be mentioned in every single article about Trump's tariffs is that it is supposed to be the job of CONGRESS to set tax rates. Trump is egregiously abusing an "emergency" authority to usurp the legislature's power over trade policy. www.lawfaremedia.org/article/trum...

"I don't want a Disney vacation of our history! I don't a whitewashed history, I don't want a homogenized history. Tell me the wretched truth about America, because that speaks to our greatness" -- 20 hours into his speech, Cory Booker is spitting absolute 🔥

every person involved in this needs to be in prison

Nobody could have predicted this:

The governor of Kentucky talks more clearly about protecting LGBTQ+ children than the governor of California does.

NEW: A Democratic Governor hasn’t overseen an execution since *2017.* That’s about to change on Wednesday, due to Katie Hobbs in Arizona. boltsmag.org/secrecy-as-a...

Scientists have just cured pancreatic cancer in some patients with personalized mRNA vaccines. Pancreatic cancer. And this Trump administration wants to throw it all away. They’re throwing away a cure for cancer.

I’m not much of a theologian but I do not believe doing this to people is forgivable www.nytimes.com/interactive/...

DC has a population greater than Vermont or Wyoming (and equivalent to Alaska or Delaware). Just try to imagine the apocalyptic levels of outrage we'd see on every airwave if the federal government tried to impound Wyoming's budget, and shuttered its single largest employer.

This shit is so grim. These guys are grifting like they're stripping the copper wires out of a slowly collapsing building.

Armed government agents went to the home of a lawful resident of the United States without a warrant and arrested him over the content of his speech. This is a five-alarm fire for civil liberties.

Imagine if Joe Biden had reposted a liberal pundit saying ‘shut up about gas prices’ in 2022. It would have led the news, all of the news, for days, weeks, on end.

Compare this to the statement Georgetown put out. Columbia rolled over like a puppy dog

oh so *now* the biden economy was "firing on all cylinders" huh? i kinda don't recall that being the tenor of economic news coverage before the election

This letter violates the First Amendment. www.washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/202...

"The first guest on Gavin Newsom's podcast was Charlie Kirk" is more than enough for me to say "absolutely not" to any suggestion Newsom play any role in the future of the Democratic Party. People like him are the past, the failures, the ones who got us here.

America does not need a ‘resistance,’ or stale slogans, or people putting those slogans on little paddles. It needs an opposition party that boldly defends the nation’s virtues, the rule of law, and the rights of its people. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...

Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect.

“This administration has made it clear that empirically verifiable knowledge itself is a threat to their plans, so they are attacking those of us who create knowledge.” newrepublic.com/article/1917...

The uncomfortable truth is the "Trump campaigned on egg prices" thing is something Dems tell themselves to rationalize what happened in November. Trump actually campaigned on hate and abusing power -- and won! The sorry state of the American electorate is a difficult thing to come to terms with.

This might be the most nakedly corrupt document I’ve seen on DOJ letterhead — and I wrote a history of Watergate!

The American Bar Association has just called upon every attorney, regardless of their political views, to join them & stand up for the rule of law & at minimum insist that our government "follow the law." Every lawyer has an ethical responsibility to do so. www.americanbar.org/news/abanews...

I was just told that I have to remove “climate” from the title of an ongoing grant if I want to keep it. And publications from that grant cannot include “climate” and other forbidden words. I can’t believe I’m writing this from the United States of America. #AcademicSky

Putin is full out celebrating our idiocy.

Chase Hunter has ice in his veins good lord

A fat $25 million gift from Meta to Trump

Here's how to cover things that are illegal: (i) this is illegal (ii) they say it's legal (iii) It's not Truth sandwich, extra mustard

Hegseth refused to answer questions from Sen. Elissa Slotkin today about whether he would follow illegal orders from President Trump that violate the U.S. Constitution. This is what New York Times readers got.

"If this feels wrong and corrupt and basically Courts Gone Wild, that’s because it is. But by now, this sort of behavior from right-wing jurists is par for the course."

If Trump pardons the January 6 insurrectionists, @joycewhitevance.bsky.social writes, he’ll be making it clear that violence and lawbreaking can be forgiven in service to himself.

Trump is trying to appoint an FBI Director who wants to imprison journalists—and this is the front page of the New York Times.

Trump is seizing control of the investigative and prosecutorial powers of the state by staffing them with the most conspiratorial and blindly loyal nominees : Gaetz/Bondi, Patel, Gabbard. Political retribution is his priority. The rest of governing he doesn’t care about.

News outlets are all for some reason emphasizing that Patel is a loyalist versus the more important fact that he’s an extremist and conspiracy theorist with no allegiance to the truth.

A pretty consistent theme that is emerging in this period is that regular people are prepared to risk what they have to stop fascism while the most protected, wealthy and powerful people are willing to risk nothing at all.

Opponents of solitary confinement are alarmed that new California law expressly codifies for the first time in state statutes that it’s permissible to use solitary against pregnant women: boltsmag.org/california-s...
