My god,the list of UCP/ Conservative insiders listed here is like the who’s who of Alberta Con politics. Is this where politicians go after govt?Sickening. Each one of these people would have known exactly the back to scratch to get things done. How are ordinary citizens supposed to fight this? #abpoli

Kevin O'Leary to @ianhanomansing.bsky.social on Cross Country Checkup, rough quote: "The Canadian dollar has dropped 40% against the US dollar under Trudeau." Fact check: the CAD has dropped 34% from the 2011 peak, but just 4% of that drop happened under Trudeau. The big drop happened under Harper.

In the summer of 1940, German bombers dropped copies of an “Appeal to Reason,” a hefty leaflet of Hitler’s three hour speech before the German Reichstag. But only because the BBC didn’t broadcast it.

Instead of congratulating your screeners for filtering out the angry folks, CBC should have let us hear some of that shared anger. You are presenting a false narrative about how Canadians are feeling about this topic. You have failed in your mandate. #CrossCountryFuckup @ianhanomansing.bsky.social

I’m not listening to Cross Country Checkup, but I will say I think the producers have failed grasp the profound “gut” reaction to Trump’s threat. It’s not an intellectual exercise. It has shaken each of us to their core. It’s not to be entertained.

Longtime followers will know that I’ve been playing thin crust pizza dough. I’ve tried a lot over the decades. I am pleased to announce that I have finally found my winner. I make the dough, let it rise at room temp for 1 hr, then fridge for 24-72 hrs. 🍽️🍜 #breadsky www.thekitchn.com/recipe-homem...

Former CBC journalist here... J school 101: Don't normalize propaganda.

Fuck this "Canada as 51st state" framing. Why are we allowing the narrative to be set in this way? The framing should be "America starting an illegal war with Canada" because THAT IS LITERALLY WHAT WE'RE TALKING ABOUT.

How about it Canada?

The funny thing about Cross Country Check-Up both-sidesing annexation is that they did not do anything wrong, the problem is that they followed their journalistic standards too well When journalism is not rooted in any moral values beyond “objectivity” and “balance,” this is the natural outcome

Brilliant but devastating editorial in the Financial Times. “In the past 10 days, he [Trump] has all but incinerated 80 years of postwar American leadership. If you are not at the table, you are on the menu. America has turned.”

I'm hearing a lot of divided opinion nationally on the issue of Ian hanomansing having to give me his house. In the interest of balance, I'll make sure both sides are given equal space, obviously. But obviously we'll be having this conversation ignoring any other dynamics at play. So that'll be fun.

Okay, grab a coffee for this one. @joshtpm.bsky.social telling us what I’ve been yelling about for months. Maybe throw some booze in there as well. You’re going to need it after reading this!

Dear Democratic Party: This is the way. -me

Hey CBC, don’t do this. It’s not a “proposal.” Having different wording on your website won’t diminish the harm done by having Canada’s national broadcaster treat this as a serious conversation (see below for how it’s being portrayed on the relatively sane CPAC…). Pull out of this disaster now.

Donald Trump says Canada has no right to exist. I take the threat seriously. With our sovereignty on the table I support a national discussion on next steps. But CBC thinks it would be fun to have an American DJ co-host whether we should exist as a nation. Fuck that @ianhanomansing.bsky.social

Hanomansing and CBC are being absolutely slammed here and on X for this collaborationist normalizing. He won't listen though, he'll just post some condescending nonsense about people being upset at him "just asking questions". CBC needs to do much better in this moment.

One last thing I’ll say about this is that judging by people’s messages, the audio version has some stuff not in the edited online transcript, including a discussion of the false tension around empathy in journalism, and a bit about paying attention to sparrows.

In 2024, 88 per cent of the 717 crime guns seized by the Toronto Police Service were traced to the United States. #cdnpoli www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

I just signed a petition demanding the Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry Ban X/Twitter in Canada. Join me in signing here: you.leadnow.ca/petitions/ba... you.leadnow.ca/petitions/ba...

I've been thinking about the common criticism that Canadian culture is just "not American." Here's the thing, though: that's only a thing that's thrown out because we have literally one neighbour. We're also not German, English or Australian, it's just the geography that brings up the not US thing

Please read my latest reflection. There are lies we tell to comfort ourselves. Like Democrats who say we just have to wait two year and Trump will lose control of the House. Like those in Germany who promoted Hitler while believing they could control him. charlieangus.substack.com/p/the-reichs...
