ā€œGive me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free.ā€Ā  You have to look no further than the pedestal of Lady Liberty to see what defines America. Thatā€™s who we are.Ā Ā  This speech ā€“ and this President ā€“ is not who we are.

"They'll never cut Social Security" is the new "they'll never overturn Roe v Wade."

old Soviet joke for our times: Guy stops by the newsstand every day, scans the front page, doesnā€™t buy the paper. One day the vendor asks what heā€™s up to. Guy says: ā€œlooking for an obituary.ā€ Vendor says ā€œthose are towards the back of the paper, comrade.ā€ Guy says: ā€œnot the one Iā€™m looking for.ā€

I think this is one of my favourite colourful climate chart type things, because it depicts two things at once: - Things are going to get worse, no matter what - The degree to which they get worse depends on decisions made today theconversation.com/my-new-dark-... by @edhawkins.org

Just in case anyone was in any doubt that global corporations wouldnā€™t happily kill every last one of us in pursuit of shareholder value.

Study: higher levels of CO2 increase survival of viruses in the air and transmission risk--not an issue for indoor ventilation but for climate change as well. šŸ›ŸšŸ§Ŗ

I'm not that into big trucks, to put it mildly, but the batteries in EV pickups are kind of insane energy resources. The Chevy Silverado's 200 kWh battery can do 10 kW of vehicle-to-home discharging, which is enough to power a typical home for a full week. Wild. www.caranddriver.com/news/a607558...

Heat pump question šŸ™‹šŸ¼ā€ā™‚ļø I recently bought one but was told they canā€™t cover temps well below freezing so was encouraged to get a backup nat gas furnace (Iā€™m in Toronto). Iā€™ve seen data showing wide heat pump adoption in cold countries so is there any truth to this? #heatpump #heatpumps #energysky

Food has a big climate problem. But we can fix it. drawdown.org/insights/fix...

Kamala Harris treated climate change as an issue to be avoided. But climate is one of Dems' best opportunities to tell stories that, like Trump's, have clear villains and center the way elites (like Big Oil CEOs) are hurting working class people. That's why it's time for climate populism.

The problem with a lot of ocean "exploitation" is that it's like mining a human for calcium. Yes, a human body contains ~1kg of calcium, and you could take it out, but it's already *doing* quite a lot of useful things, and the human has far more potential to help you if you leave the calcium alone.

100 years of average October temperature anomalies over land areas through 2024... Large year-to-year variability and a long-term warming trend. Data from NOAAGlobalTemp v6.0.0 (www.ncei.noaa.gov/products/lan...)

It is going to be many decades before the improvment in PV efficiency slows down, and for the same reason PV has MUCH more runway than wind for continued costs reduction. I happen to think solar could get as a cheap as $2/MWh (yes MWh!). I had an old thread on X about why, will port it over soon.

Remember when, the Trump Administration caved to Big Pharma and broke their promise to enable Medicare drug negotiations? Do not forget it was President Biden and Democrats in Congress who actually got this done!

Didnā€™t realize there was an absence of an algorithm? Probably for the best, but makes sense. Hopefully it stays that way

Alright. Here we go. One of top 5 things from the previous election that triggers my anger. See below: #election2024 #stupidtalkingpoints

Few people know this: half of the world's energy use is for heat used in buildings and industry. And almost all of it is from burning fossil fuels. That's why we need to decarbonise heat if we want to stand a chance of meeting our climate targets.

www.nrdc.org/bio/vijay-li... More attention needs to be brought to how climate affects the elderly; the misconception that itā€™s ā€™not their problemā€™ in my opinion threatens to contribute to inaction in regards to climate. #climate #climatechange
