Trump's KGB Codename: Krasnov

The Supreme Court, in its first ruling on President Trump’s use of executive power during his second term, decided that he cannot, for now, dismiss the government lawyer leading the watchdog agency responsible for protecting whistle-blowers.

US officials are reportedly threatening to revoke Starlink access for Ukraine if they don’t give us 50% of their mineral rights. That’s not diplomacy, it’s extortion. We’re also pushing them to kill a UN Resolution that blames Russia for starting the war. Facts matter.

Judith Butler: "Once you decide that a single vulnerable minority can be sacrificed, you’re operating within a fascist logic, because that means there might be a second one you’re willing to sacrifice, and a third, a fourth, and then what happens?"

Valuing diversity is not a crime Installing white men in every position of power is not a meritocracy

Starlink should be banned from European markets on national security grounds. Anything requiring Starlink should be shut out of the European market, and sanctions should be considered against all relevant actors. kyivindependent.com/us-threatens...

He’s a dictator. A neo-Nazi. It is not wrong to compare him to Hitler.

We need facts as never before. 3 years after Putin invaded Ukraine, I spent 24 hours with combat medics on the Ukrainian frontline. Their courage, compassion, dedication & skill are astounding. Please read & please never stop standing up for Ukraine. 🇺🇦 www.theguardian.com/world/2025/f...

This is a remarkable turn of events. Farage going is going to do him and reform a lot of harm. Which is great news, obvs!

Sorry for making you look at him but yet again, as with Peterson, Musk, Montgomerie and so many others, the turn to the hard/far right begins with obsessive transphobia. It might be the primary driver of rightwing radicalisation over the last decade. They always bring it up.

US has come a long way since days of genocide, slavery, racial segregation. Trump delivering: sackings of judges, military commanders, public servants; opposition to diversity/equality; censorship of books, scholarly journals, silencing of journalists. Won't have a happy ending. What will UK do?

Byline Times is facing major DDOS (malicious traffic-flooding) issues on our site apparently after this article went live... bylinetimes.com/2025/02/21/d...

"During the meeting, Ukraine was told it faced imminent shutoff of the Starlink service if it did not reach a deal on critical minerals, said the source, who requested anonymity to discuss closed negotiations." Astonishing betrayal of an ally. www.reuters.com/business/us-...

Back to the future: digital gunboat diplomacy. It’s good the US doesn’t control lots of universally used digital software and hardware.

Why is this not on every UK news channel this morning?

How can Brexit Britain navigate Trump's World? New post on my Brexit & Beyond Blog. With the rapid deepening of a dangerous global divide, the UK faces hard choices. Could the latest proposals for UK-EU 'mutual recognition' be part of the answer? chrisgreybrexitblog.blogspot.com/2025/02/how-...

The UK's anti-protest laws pre-legitimise far right authoritarianism. Labour must repeal them now. My column today. www.theguardian.com/global/comme...

Youth Mobility Scheme: hope for a better, brighter future @northeastbylines.co.uk

A former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom (and a former leader of the party of Churchill) attended and addressed a conference at which later in the day a Nazi salute was openly given and received rapturous applause. 🤯

Let’s hope those planning on voting for far right AFD pause for thought and change thier minds. Trump’s antics could well be a turning point. In England, Farage is already behaving very cautiously and polling has stalled for reform.

Demanding $500 billion worth of minerals in return for just over $110 billion in “aid” is a hell of a rate of a return. Presumably the phrase should now be “beware Americans bearing gifts”.

Something odd just happened—an article that had been widely published on media sites has suddenly disappeared without any retraction or explanation. Many may have come across it on Reddit.

We always cooked fish pie for our kids when they were little. They loved it! Delicious. We used an old recipe that has boiled egg in it.

No surprises here tbh. But it does make for fun reading. Might be tempted to buy the book. Chief whip’s diaries reveal rescue of Tory MP from KGB agent in London brothel www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

Well there goes the worst kept secret in UK EU relations, as I've been saying since June 2024. Of course the UK was going to respond to the EU ask over youth mobility. Might have been easier to say from the start that of course we'll look at EU asks?

Happy Friday BS 💙

The City of Boston is leading 40+ mayors, cities, and counties in an amicus brief against the Trump Administration's drastic and illegal cuts to federal research funding—cuts that will lead to immediate job losses nationwide.

wearing sunglasses inside and following an event where he at times had a hard time speaking coherently, Elon Musk walks off the CPAC stage waving around a chain saw. this is the guy currently running our government. Congrats, America!

Maybe the other six could issue a statement leaving out the US.. If Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and the United Kingdom, don't call out Russian aggression they might as well not bother

Murphy: "There's no separation between the Kremlin & the White House right now. The White House is a full-time Kremlin propaganda operation..there's a real probability American troops are going to have fight abroad to protect the global world order & our allies & perhaps American sovereignty itself"

There's a rumour that Nigel Farage is keeping his head down because he's off to a Trump cheerleading conference over the weekend. I’m afraid I’m being proved right- Farage is far more interested in Trump's success than British security. He is a bootlicker and a plastic patriot.

Mad, bad, and dangerous to know. But ultimately a hollow voice in the spectre of reality. Does anyone this side of the Atlantic really listen to her? I doubt it very much. Small fish. Small pond. Irrelevant.
