This is like saying early warnings about Putin's authoritarianism are what really hurt his opposition. Pure head-in-the-sand nonsense.

A great deal of trouble we face now is that those in power assume everyone working for the public good has to be part of a grift because *they literally cannot conceive of a public good*. They are broken, deranged people, almost to a one. I'm struggling with the response to this.

#RIP John ‘Paddy’ Hemingway who passed away on Monday at at the age of 105. Hemingway was the last surviving Battle of Britain pilot. Born in Dublin in 1919, Hemingway joined the RAF in 1938. He flew Hawker Hurricanes during WWII and survived being shot down four times.

and institutional resistance is a muscle that builds with use. malicious non compliance will become open defiance. this is the weakest the opposition to him will ever be

People need to be crystal clear about something: The requirement that the government ANSWER to a court on the legal basis for detaining someone is literally the core liberty right (habeas corpus). If the government says they don’t have to do that bc “national security,” YOU can be disappeared.

There's no better way to prove that Musk is political ebola than blowing out his pet judge nominee in Wisconsin. Call everyone you know in WI and get them to show up and vote

We're all going to be unbelievably fucked if blue states don't start immediately rolling back restrictions on new housing to create a construction boom and build millions of new multifamily homes as soon as possible

Housing really is a ‘decide if you want to win’ issue for the Democratic Party.

This isn't anti-DEI - it's retelling history as a story with only white men in it. The tale of the Navajo Code Talkers is essential to understanding the Allies' victory in WWII. Removing it because the people involved were non-white is segregationism.

Putting kids in a free pre-K program "raises parents’ average earnings by $5,461 per year, or 21.7 percent, during the one- or two-year period when the child is of pre-kindergarten age. ... Parents’ earnings remain higher for at least the next six years."

The Trump administration is defying a court order and illegally detaining "enemies" in camps--after only two months in office. We've crossed the Rubicon. The courts are not coming to save us. The way to defeat dictators is with mass, popular, civil resistance and non-cooperation.

People are also forgetting how much of the United States economy is supported by the idea that the debts of the United States shall not be questioned. Has been true for 160 years and is quite possibly no longer true as of January 20. The US is no longer the safe investment choice.

A lot of delusion happening in that Schumer NYT interview, but this gets to the heart of it: he believes his Republican colleagues will come around and everything will be ok. Absolutely delusional. www.nytimes.com/2025/03/16/m...

This is a very sad story, but what makes me crazy is that people tried to explain that this is what would happen and got caricatured as "woke" hysterics www.usatoday.com/story/news/n...

FYI - DOGE is using private information to go directly into the accounts of social security beneficiaries to take funds. They marked an 82-year old man as deceased and took his payments. He is not dead. Check on your grandparents. Check the Seattle Times for the info.

"dei medal" you might as well just put "n*gger medal" because that's what they mean to say

man: “Doctor, I’m depressed, life is harsh, unforgiving, cruel." doctor: "The treatment, is simple. The great clown Pagliacci is in town tonight, go and see him! That should sort you out.” man (in tears): “But doctor,” doctor: "haha, butt doctor" man: "lmao butt doctor"

folks, if they deported people during the break in the hearing about deporting exactly these people, we’re in completely lawless territory. if the government can engage in irreparable harm while the judge is hearing argument, there’s no real process left.

de-baathification 2, the dumbest example of the imperial boomerang yet recorded

Bill Kristol's current ideology until Trump is out of the White House:

NEWS: After an emergency meeting of Indivisible groups across the country, Indivisible is officially calling on Senate Minority Leader Schumer to step down from his leadership position. indivisible.org/statements/i...

Take a moment today to read about a few of the young children whom Trump and Musk killed by shutting down USAID. The blame for these deaths falls on them. There will be hundreds of thousands more dead kids before their lethal crusade against foreign aid ends. www.nytimes.com/interactive/...

I hate this idea that because we criticize Dems, we aren’t criticizing Trump. The getaway driver (dems) are equally culpable when they bail out Republican atrocity. We criticize Dems because we EXPECT them to be better. We know Republicans are horrifying. We don’t want dem getaway drivers.

Not a profound or nuanced observation, obviously, but I am really struggling with how fucking evil everything is every day. Everything I love and admire about this stupid and amazing country just constantly getting vandalized and brutalized by people who hate all those things. Not digging it.

Schumer is trying to justify his vote on Jake Tapper right now, saying if they had let the government shut down "they could fire half the workers in the federal government." WHAT DO YOU THINK THEY'RE DOING RIGHT NOW CHUCK

Among the material devastation to everyday people, Senate Dems have now blown a hole in their ability to work with the House. We had an agreed upon plan, House took immense risk, then Senate turned around midway and destroyed it w/ a fear-based, inexplicable abdication. They own what happens next.

honestly this stuff is insulting

Politics gets dirty and I don't mind a Dem playing coy with their position as a negotiating tactic to extract more—that's how the sausage is made—but what happened here with those 10 Dems achieved nothing because it had just one objective: to deceive Democratic voters. That cannot be tolerated.

These are the same Senate Democrats who lectured the base for years about the importance of preserving the filibuster so it would still be available when Democrats were in the minority

It’s awesome that Senate Democrats are voting to pass Trump’s budget while he’s at the DOJ calling them a bunch of criminals and saying newspapers and MSNBC should be illegal. That’s great, good job guys.

If Senate Dems really wanted to replace Schumer they could but I suspect his aversion to confrontation reflects the actual prevailing sentiment in the rest of the caucus, they don't want something different

I'm a democratic socialist and at this point I'd run through fucking walls like the Kool-Aid Man for any Democrat who's willing to throw a punch for the "democratic" half of my ideology. give me fucking Adam Kinzinger I don't care anymore.

Brian Schatz just voted yes on cloture, and that will be the end of his political career, though he may not yet realize it. @schatz.bsky.social voted yes with Durbin and Schumer reportedly to curry favor with them and rise in Senate leadership. It will not work. This was a craven, cowardly move.

“Representative Eric Burlison (R-MO) wrote a letter to MLB commissioner Rob Manfred, stating his belief that Trevor Bauer has been ostracized from the league due to his support for Trump.” We are stuck with a bunch of losers whining forever, it's all they ever do anymore

fuck all these fucking fucks

Let's be honest here, the government has BEEN shut down since Jan 20. They've literally only taken away services, closed departments, and fired employees. Don't know why the Dems should pretend otherwise.

New Yorkers and DC residents trying to talk with @schumer.senate.gov are having to push notes through a locked door with police posted outside.

Leaders are emerging. We are seeing the way forward and the voices who will lead us. From AOC to midwestern governors what matters is their connection to our reality and courage to fight for us. And they don’t need to hold certain positions to lead, we just need to elevate their voices and help.

It's pretty amazing that Senate Democrats have decided that the only people who will be pissed if they cave to the Republicans are THE PEOPLE WHO ACTUALLY VOTE FOR THEM... and *because* we actually vote for them, we're the people who should be ignored.

Foreign Policy Patrick Star is right.

The NY Democratic party needs to be stripped down to the fucking studs and rebuilt. I honestly think losing to George Pataki and Rudy Giuliani all those years while the people in charge were younger permanently broke their brains.

wasn't just some guy. was *the opposition leader* Lee Jae-myung, who lost to the incumbent (and impeached) president in the most recent election, who is physically disabled from a factory accident. no personal security despite being stabbed a year ago. absolute gigachad
