Trump is describing a policy in which the US government will take billions of taxpayer dollars and hand them directly to his billionaire allies in exchange for fake digital tokens. Stealing our money and paying it to his friends in exchange for nothing.

A Complete Unkown is 2024’s “I should watch it because it’s very much in the conversation but I just don’t want to” film.

One of the best to ever do it. This is said a lot, but I genuinely think his absence is a gigantic gaping hole in Millennial culture - a missing piece that explains where something went wrong in the flow of recent history. This wasn't supposed to be our world.

Donald Trump is a Russian asset; it no longer matters if it’s witting or unwitting. He routinely spreads disinformation that originates in the Kremlin and the FSB, and does it to hurt America and our friends. If you support Trump, you have—morally speaking—betrayed your country.

This.

The GOP message, such that there was one, was “immigrants are eating cats and dogs” and “democrats went to force your kid to be trans.” It was the opposite of message discipline!

Trump’s latest executive order (that was no doubt written by psychopath RFK Jr.) goes after antidepressants. As someone whose life was saved by them, you will pry my prozac from my cold dead hands. www.whitehouse.gov/presidential...

*guy who has literally no idea how inflation statistics are calculated* “Economists don’t use the right numbers to measure the economy, anyway. Did you know inflation statistics don’t include food, housing, or gas”

The left missed the threat posed by Trump in early 2016 because it was focused on attacking liberalism. After the election it spent a lot of time normalizing Trump (“just a usual Republican”) or arguing that at least he wasn’t Bush. It was contemptuous of “wine moms” and their “hashtag resistance.”

Take a step back, see what's happening. Trump took office and abruptly gave the richest guy on earth free rein to unmake the US government without any White House oversight or coordination. That guy has been publicly radicalized into an increasingly open white supremacist and conspiracy theorist.

There isn’t any evidence that grocery inflation killed the Democrats, because by the time the election rolled around, THERE WASN’T ANY GROCERY INFLATION

Democrats: “Twitter isn’t real life” Republican guy: “What if I took over Twitter” *guy instantly becomes extra-constitutional king of America*

Government currently running exactly as well as an average Cybertruck.

My coworker is an immigrant from Afghanistan. She said “I survived three wars. If you have lentils and water, we can get through this. I will make sure.”

This is open corruption. Paramount pays the president tens of millions of dollars for a completely frivolous legal claim, and then Trump gives Paramount a pass on antitrust law. Trump isn’t enforcing the laws, he’s collecting a toll from corporations in exchange for looking the other way.

It’s important to know that a lot of productive activity is happening in person and offline, too. Not all of it can be broadcast online, but we’ve had hundreds of people showing up to our trainings, mobilizations, and more. Keep going. Tyranny is eroded by a sea of small acts. Everything matters.

Yes, this administration is dangerous and cruel, but they are also shockingly dim and incompetent. Opportunities are everywhere. Make everything as hard as possible. Resist every demand. Refuse entry without a warrant. Don’t take the buyout. Their problem solving skills are 📉

Suddenly, out of nowhere, a declassified World War II-era CIA guide to sabotaging fascism in the workplace has become one of the most popular free ebooks on the internet: www.404media.co/declassified...

One of the things Trump's supporters would do when you said he was going to build concentration camps was say "Well, they're not real concentration camps, because we're just sending them home." But we're nine days in and he's already ordered a massive concentration camp to permanently detain people

JD Vance follows this Nazi account on Twitter

I love when people say stuff like "the biopic about this administration is going to be SCATHING" brother at this rate the biopic is going to be called "The Great Patriot: Rise Of A Ruler" and they'll make our kids watch it in school

You literally couldn’t design a worse Democratic response to Trump in a lab. This abandons democracy, gaslights the Dem base, encourages other media to underreact to Trump, cedes attention, all while ensuring Dems continue to focus on the issues they KEEP LOSING ON.

The media keeps failing. They're describing Trump commandeering the power of the purse as a kind of political squabble, a funding fight akin to budget negotiations. It is an AUTHORITARIAN POWER GRAB. Trump DOES NOT HAVE THE AUTHORITY TO DECIDE WHO GETS WHICH MONEY FROM CONGRESS.

Susan Collins sure doesn't understand a lot of things, it seems. Maybe she's not very good at her job.

MOVIE IDEA: Gerard Butler as a former Capitol Police officer who seeks vengeance against the pardoned felons who assaulted him and killed his partner, and the President who pardoned them.

The folks obsessively posting about egg prices for the past few years have gone strangely quiet just as egg prices hit an all-time high.

Things are rough so let’s escape into fiction. Here are some of my favorite fictional characters right now.

I’m just going to say that AOC is the acting leader of the Democratic Party until someone proves otherwise. At least insofar as she is responding to the moment with leadership.

"how dare you accuse me of being addicted to really bad drugs when you sometimes you use some drugs" is, in fact, an exact argument that addicts to really bad drugs make

What’s the difference between a gov controlling an algorithm, silently eliminating reach for things it doesn’t like, vs the same gov using its power, to demand that the platform remove the things it doesn’t like.? In China they are overt. With TikTok in the US, they control silently

Saying again: This is precisely why authoritarians holding office is so dangerous to democracy - people and institutions scale back their opposition for fear of persecution. As a result, Trump will face less opposition and dissent. Democracy depends on respecting the legitimacy of the opposition.

Trump hated TikTok (because China) until it helped him win an election (as even he acknowledges) and now he’s going to save it and take a victory lap. So he’ll have X, TikTok, Insta, and Facebook all working on his behalf. That’s a big difference between now and 2017.

lmao no, TikTok users are not moving to Bluesky. They would literally rather learn Mandarin than learn how to read a feed of text posts. This is a millennial retirement home.

This is the GOP’s long con on full display.

"GenZ doesn't CARE about the Chinese government collecting it's data when we know the U.S. government has been doing the same thing! We're all MUCH too smart, skeptical and clever to be taken in by propaganda - which is why you've heard this IDENTICAL message 800,000 times this weekend!" 😉✌️

They won't get the credit they deserve, but President Biden and Secretary Blinken just saved countless lives reaching this ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas right before Trump comes in. Yes, there will likely be future violence, but Trump now can't pour kerosene on this from Day One.

People are consuming more than ever before, and real wages are higher than ever before. That means cost of living is, to a first approximation, lower than ever before. Democrats think it’s really savvy to challenge Trump to “listen to Americans and lower cost of living” but he’s already won there.

Biden was bizarrely and disproportionately disliked by young people in 2021 and 2022, when you poll young people they do not list Gaza as a major issue, and of course it doesn’t make a hint of sense to oppose the Gaza war by voting for Trump. This just wasn’t what happened

Man, what are you talking about? Biden promoted labor, cancelled student debt, appointed Lina Khan, exhausted his political capital on a massive climate law. He never punched left. And what happened? The left ripped him to shreds almost from day one, because he was wasn’t Bernie.

the entire "pivot to video" strategy that destroyed many of the sites you used to love was based on Facebook lying about video metrics, convincing everyone that was the only way their content was getting shared they half-heartedly "apologized" for this years later, leaving burning wreckage behind

Remember how before the election everyone was like “If Trump wins, he’ll be truly unhinged, no adults in the room will hold him back”? And then he actually did win. And suddenly everyone switched to “Maybe it won’t be so bad, let’s work with him,” as he started making threats to annex Canada

Basically my view is this: right now, the vast majority of voters are getting either some or all of their political information from a giant unregulated ambient media ecosystem, which only really shows them ideas that will excite or anger them, largely free of any fact-checking

Remember when The Marvels (good movie) bombed at the box office and the press blamed Nia DaCosta and then when Joker 2 (bad movie) bombed the press barely mentioned Todd Phillips when writing their think pieces on what happened

“Democrats keep lurching to the right” is completely, utterly false. Biden lurched way to the left, and it was a huge success in the real world. The problem is that people like you attacked him ANYWAY, he could never escape that uniform unpopularity, and now we have a fascist president

If these are your standards surely it’s the guy who withdrew us from our wars, had the most pro-labor and pro-worker economic policy in living memory, and passed the largest environmental bill in human history?

You’re not! Because the incredibly strong US economy was achieved not by Reagan or Bush but by Joe Biden, pursuing a unique agenda of supporting workers and labor and employment against bosses and companies. He literally managed the economy as a progressive and it WORKED SPECTACULARLY
