Sort of, but also, Roxy gets to feel more or less at-home in *both* universes. Candy Roxy builds a life in which going full femme feels all right, while Meat Roxy focuses on being true to what feels right for him.
John doesn't get that, at least not yet.

That's true, but I think Calliope and Karkat's commentary is on-point in that this use of capital-R Retcon doesn't have the "this was the plan all along" energy that it did in Homestuck. John's ascension beyond the bounds of canon felt like a natural evolution of his themes. This is "fuck it," ha ha

Though to be honest, 2025 probably wasn't the year for a "reach out to your fascist-leaning friends and try to talk them out of it" plotline anyway. Being forced to spend months on a ship with people without wealth or power was probably the best outcome for Jane.

The abandonment of the "John's letters" and "Jane's rehabilitation" threads is interesting, in that I forgot about the former, and the team seemed to have forgotten about the latter, and these imply some impending narrowing of scope.

I had to uninstall Slay the Spire because I simply could not trust myself to play it responsibly. The convenience of pausing a run partway through actually made it worse--I could always tell myself "I'll play a little more, then stop at the end of this floor."

The above thoughts brought to you by the glimpse we got of June, and how her outfit suggests whimsy that the Epilogues and HS2 just have not afforded John.

The most recent upd8 portrays this is a fatal flaw of John's, that he can't just be happy with his situation, but I'd posit that John's trying to find the balance between Meat and Candy, the contradiction that's the basis of all humor.

Would-be Nazis do NOT fear being wrong, or looking unreasonable. They do not fear being judged morally, nor do they fear *being* immoral. They can easily justify whatever they choose to do as being retroactively correct.
They fear looking goofy. That's why they try so hard to make us look goofy.

He really has tried to be better than his father was, and I respect that. Does he realize that his children are all kinder than he is? Or does he just think we're stubborn, contrary, idealistic, or weak? It would be tragic if he realizes what he's like and how we see him, and tragic if he doesn't.

ThoughtSlime recently released a YouTube, the thesis of which is that arguing with fascists is counterproductive. But one of the premises underpinning that argument is that fascism is an ideology that only losers and assholes can subscribe to--you can't buy into it unless you're an unlikable hater.

There are a lot of different kinds of characters, well-written enough that you're likely to become very invested in at least one of them.
That said, SOME of those characters have their development spiked over the course of multiple novels, so you might be suffering if you pick the wrong fave(s).

They don't want to bring in money. They want to set fires that campaign donors will be paid to douse.

I wasn't this quick in high school, but I do remember visiting my folks as an adult and having my grandfather note that I'd gained some weight. I expressed the hope that I'd one day be half the man he was.
You shouldn't fat-shame anyway, but it's insane to do so when you're fat.

I was definitely seeing this toward the end of my time on Twitter. Most people arguing for reactionary positions seemed to be having bots form their arguments, resulting in a surreal disconnect between their writing quality and apparent reading comprehension.
