"During the meeting, Ukraine was told it faced imminent shutoff of the Starlink service if it did not reach a deal on critical minerals, said the source, who requested anonymity to discuss closed negotiations." Astonishing betrayal of an ally. www.reuters.com/business/us-...

So the President not only fired the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs. He also fired the top JAGs at the Army, Navy and Air Force. Those are the lead people who determine what is a legal order and what is not. So if you're planning to do things that are illegal they're the most obvious obstacle.

"The crowd again started shouting “tax Elon,” “tax the wealthy,” “tax the rich” and “tax the billionaires.” " www.lagrandeobserver.com/news/local/r...

@jenpsaki.msnbc.com: "Inspectors general are a headache for everyone. You know why? Because they're investigating every agency and they find stuff! Including waste and fraud and abuse! They wouldn't be firing them if they cared about waste, fraud, and abuse."

NEW: Pregnancy became far more dangerous in Texas after the state banned abortion, according to ProPublica’s first-of-its-kind analysis, which found the sepsis rate for women hospitalized as they miscarried in the 2nd trimester shot up by more than 50%. https://propub.li/43487Tj

I hope America is as lucky as the delta jet - everyone survives but the right wing explodes

if you haven't heard the EDM remix of this VERY catchy song, I really would recommend it, it really is the soundtrack to the apocalypse I never knew I needed: www.youtube.com/shorts/sLn8G...

Every $1 invested in NIH returns $2.46—cutting National Institute of Health research funding won’t save money; it’ll cost lives.

If you wanted to cut waste, fraud, and abuse, you would empower the inspectors general. If you wanted more waste, fraud, and abuse, you would fire them.

The Trump-Musk regime is setting the tone at the top when it comes to breaking contracts. thehill.com/media/514849...

It is so hard to get through to people that before food stamps, kids starved. Before meat inspections, kids died. Before vaccines, kids died. You're choosing to kill children to save a buck & you refuse to see it because it's not real to you

Holy shit.

I know folks hate seeing content from the other site, but the escalation implied in this tweet exchange is so severe that it needs to be acknowledged. Take the advice of so many other great folks dedicated to antifascist work with a wealth of experience of historical knowledge; you need to prepare.

“A prudent court will give the govt officials… multiple opportunities to comply with the order, and will escalate things only when the officials… make their defiance clear.” These law professors learned nothing. Granting delays, treating bad faith BS as merited, is why Justice lost from 2021-2024.

We’re one day closer to Trump leaving office (one way or another).

The community note 🤌😘

My cartoon on Trump's Ukraine peace deal. It is a back stab on Ukraine and a betray to world peace. it opens a dark chapter of our time. 漫画 《川普和平协议》首发大声 @dashengmedia.bsky.social ———— Support my art & Pre-Order my graphic novel ‘You Must Take Part in Revolution’ 🙏 :badiucao.com/book

Termination notices going out this afternoon to more than 300 employees of the National Cancer Institute. Access likely ends today. Four weeks paid leave and that’s it. Strong power move for Team Cancer.

Don’t buy stuff on February 28. Money’s the only thing these dicks understand. #resist

Gutting the CDC right as we’re on the cusp of major outbreaks of transmissible diseases is a very bad idea.

Doing great 👍

“We must especially beware of that small group of selfish men who would clip the wings of the American eagle in order to feather their own nests.” -FDR, 1941

We got a Costco membership for the first time in our lives today. They asked why & I said because treat your workers well, you value diversity, & you didn’t cave in to authoritarian demands. He said: “We’ve been getting lots of folks saying that, thanks for joining.” Who needs a gallon of ketchup?

A grim scene this afternoon as Emil Bove faced down lawyers from DOJ’s Public Integrity Section. One said it was “not anything any of us ever expected to see in America.” www.washingtonpost.com/national-sec...

Top USAID officials are trying to create a false narrative that life-saving aid has continued despite Trump’s blanket halt to foreign aid. Our @nytimes.com reporting shows the exact opposite. USAID even issued an internal email to stop applications for waivers: www.nytimes.com/2025/02/12/u...

German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier: "We must not freeze in fear, or as the English saying goes, let's not be deers caught in the headlights. It is clear that the new American administration holds a world view that is very different from our own. One that shows no regard for established rules."

“I expect you will eventually find someone who is enough of a fool, or enough of a coward, to file your motion. But it was never going to be me.”

"Zach Arenz, the New York teacher of the year, predicted lost educators, increased class sizes and a widening achievement gap in which wealthy communities get wealthier through school voucher programs. 'All of these things are going to lead to a weak public education system,' he told ABC News."

Promise: "I will immediately bring prices down, starting on Day One." Reality:

We only know this man is in Gitmo because Noem tweeted a propaganda photo that included him and his sister saw it. He has no criminal record. He entered the US in January and immediately made an appointment with CBP to claim asylum. They sent him to a concentration camp bc of his basketball tattoo.

Trump and Musk claim they are trying to reduce waste, fraud and abuse. This is the job of Inspectors General, whom Trump is firing. Two days ago, the USAID IG explained how shutting down the agency created the risk of billions in fraud. Next day he was fired. www.washingtonpost.com/politics/202...

In case there’s any confusion, the “fraud” Trump is lying about here is, as described by the AP, funding for “early childhood education, pollution reduction and HIV prevention research” as well as “billions of dollars in grant funding from the National Institutes of Health.”

Bernie Sanders: "They will use the enormous media operations they own to deflect attention away from the impact of their policies while they entertain us to death."

Sweeping up Puerto Ricans - automatic U.S. citizens - in immigration raids doesn't exactly back up the idea that it's all about making sure immigrants are following the law. ICYMI @adriancarrasquillo.bsky.social: www.thebulwark.com/p/trump-depo...

As companies shell out big bucks for Super Bowl commercials, remember that many said they were forced to raise prices due to inflation. Also remember that average profit margins in nearly every sector in the S&P 500 are running near or above 10-year highs. Hello???

Chris Murphy: "I think this is the most serious constitutional crisis the country has faced, certainly since Watergate. The president is attempting to seize control of power, and for corrupt purposes ... he's trying to crush his opposition ... this is a red alert moment ... our democracy is at risk"

Whenever you hear someone sneer about scientific research that seems useless to them — “they’re studying the spit of lizards?!” — remind them that’s exactly how we got Ozempic. globalnews.ca/news/9793403...

For those watching the game and/or the commercials - bsky.app/profile/did:...

This is the most relevant article to NIH and research cuts I’ve seen. Imagine if this was today , how many people would be saying “Why are we studying Gila Monsters and their impact on diabetes ? That’s wasted money !” globalnews.ca/news/9793403...

Hey NYTimes — *now* you’re lighting the beacons? NOW?!? After months of “Sauron: Avatar Of Evil… Or Extreme Uniter?” thumbsucker reporting you’re screaming what we’ve known since 2015? Fuck all the way off.

Elon Musk dismantled USAID as it was investigating Starlink for shutting down satellites over Ukraine to help Russia. Elon Musk shut down the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau as it was about to regulate big tech financial operations. Don’t be surprised. This is EXACTLY how oligarchies work.
