Good to know The 78 Club is a thing, though.

If you want Rockstars v Potholes, Roger Daltrey is in epic form here. www.greatbritishlife.co.uk/magazines/su...

Do you think the criteria will change for Sound Of 2026?

Maybe because the visuals are so great too, but Severance is up there. As with I Walk Beside You, the themes to The Day Of The Jackal and Lessons In Chemistry are great for a hammy sofa singalong. (The Affair will always win that.)

Agreed!

If we’re talking Birmingham gigs, my wife saw Nirvana at Edwards No 8. I regret not knowing her then for many reasons, but not seeing Nirvana is definitely one of them.

Fair enough. I just prefer the warmth of the first three. This one feels like homework. Onions vary, and that.

Hmm. This is the first to disappoint. It’s nice, but it’s too studiedly mature for me - technique at the expense of heart.

I for one knew full well that kind of mess was always going to happen. FFS.

Indeed, and obv they were last year’s winners, so I’m surprised on why the rules have changed now. I get the albatross point, but there’s a separate debate on the industry pressuring tastemakers - who should see through the hype if an artist isn’t ready (FLO.) Again, I get the problem isn’t on you.

Pozer, Good Neighbours, mk.gee. Doechii at a push. The other 7 are established. I appreciate you won’t say “Yeah, it’s a mess,” but when MVT is nearing the ticket levy to help grassroots venues, this implies R1 dismisses those artists. I know it does care, but imo the messaging is so disappointing.

If streaming makes it harder to break through, shouldn’t R1 make it easier for new artists to emerge? All this does is throw more rocks in their path.

Sali isn’t related afaik, but mine is WH Smith too, for the same reasons. It doesn’t help print journalism that it’s the one remaining chain to sell mags, when shopping there is such a dreary experience.

The 4-1 promotion game v Shrewsbury in 1981-82. #gloryhunter

Of course. But none of my family like football, so I do worry if I was 25 years younger that I’d be a Franchise fan.

Aged nine in 1982, I was a schoolboy armchair Liverpool fan, then noticed the local league team to Milton Keynes was doing well. Still a Luton fan.

I worked in football 2016-18, for a firm that worked with a few players. I’d write occasional tweets for the footballers we had promo contracts with. Not very convincingly, tbqhwy.
