This is about the fifth major university who announced reductions in PhD admissions this week in response to federal research cuts. Absolutely awful for students who are trying to get into grad school right now.

🚨BREAKING: Federal Court GRANTS sweeping nationwide injunction against Trump DEI executive orders finding that they violate First and Fifth Amendments to the Constitution. A huge victory for @democracyforward.org and its clients. A stinging loss for Trump. Visit www.democracydocket.com for details.

Costco and Trader Joes are yin and yang. Together they form a harmonious balance. One sells big piles of normal food, the other sells small piles of weird food. These are the two food piles people need

Diversity is our greatest asset, even if the government disagrees… They not like us! POC in STEM are here to stay. They tried to rig the game but you can’t fake influence! Mustard on the [Be][At] bro. Happy Black History Month!

His emphasis on the freedom to "joke" is telling. Because hearing sexism couched in humor leads boys men to adopt more sexist views and makes both men and women less likely to speak up and challenge others' sexist acts.

Today's the day! See you all at 4:10 pm MT at the Evolutionary Psychology preconference to hear about our (@erinwestgate.bsky.social) work on gendered lay beliefs of #gossip! #SPSP2025

I’ve waited 18 years to see MezzoMix make its way to America. Oh happy day!

Every scientist, long before they were a scientist, was a little kid who stood in front of a fish tank or stared up at the stars or turned over a rock to look at the bugs underneath and said “wow”. On the best days, working in science still feels like that.

Finally got my GoPro into the water for our Valentine’s Day weekend dive out at Madison Blue… youtu.be/2DkVxr6HAqM

Your map’s legend can be turned into a histogram, helping your audience understand the distribution in addition to decoding the colours.

How do attitudes become moralized? We find that moral conviction spreads between connected attitudes over time. + Those with highly connected belief systems (ideologues) have highly moralized belief systems! Come see us at the moral psych pre-con poster session @spspnews.bsky.social to learn more😃

If you are an NIH or CDC scientist that lost your job, we have a home for you at UTHealth. I’m hiring physician scientists and we also have transplant ID fellowship slots open. Contact me. #IDSky #MedSky

Dear federal scientists: If you have been affected by the probationary firings and would be willing to speak with Science, please reach out to me by email ([email protected]) or on Signal. We can guarantee annonymity.

I find it hilarious that the Interpersonal Relations and Group Processes section of JPSP--ostensibly a "premier outlet"--cannot fill its page allocation. The rest of the editorial is all about how every paper must meet a high bar for "theoretical innovation." Good times. doi.org/10.1037/pspi...

It hasn't been easy to fit a qualitative study and an EMA in 1 manuscript under 10,000 words but this work has now been submitted 😊. Read thread below. We will be presenting this work at @spspnews.bsky.social annual conference next week in the session on Saturday chaired by @elainehoan.bsky.social

Re sabbaticals: how do you handle your lab/on-going research? Do you cut out or scale back? Do you work less or does research just fill the time that was teaching/service? If you travel/do research visits/try to learn things, how do you also run your lab? Do you tell people you'll be slower?

I'm doing my best not to lose sight of that fact that it is still a beautiful world.

Just found out we can buy a camel through our procurement website and I have so many questions including why, what department needs this, what does a camel eat for regular meals, what kind of treats do they like, and what is the weight capacity for riding a camel cause I don't want to hurt it.

Happy to report that APA wrote this letter, gathered a coalition across science, and will now pay for ads for it to be disseminated in Science and Chronicle of Higher Ed to spread the word!! unitedsciencealliance.org

Scientists first collected a pig butt worm from the dark ocean depths near Monterey, California. The size of marbles, pigbutts are a near complete mystery. Officially described in 2007, scientists aren’t even sure if the pigbutt form is an adult, or just a very very awkward adolescent stage.

We post grim reaper signs outside underwater caves to keep people out. Do they work? Surprisingly....yes! Here's the twist: they don't scare people. They just make them feel LESS GOOD about cave diving 😅 in other words, they harsh the vibe and that keeps people out #SPSP2025

📢 New Publication! Over 5 days of learning about ingroup and outgroup members, we found that contact eliminated racial bias in recall of person-knowledge Open access link below #SocialPsyc #Psychology #AcademicSky #PsychSciSky 🧪

Does boredom produce political violence? Maaaaaaybe. Or maybe not. We attempted to replicate previous findings that boredom leads to ingroup favoritism, political extremism, and political violence. Instead we found....nothing. Why? I have thoughts but you'll have to come to SPSP to find out!

Took a good friend out diving in doubles for the first time…she nailed it!! Love those good vibes from helping someone do something cool

Friends of mine are looking for help recruiting participants for their study on femmephobia among gay, bi, and queer men - please share widely! bit.ly/femmestudy

Do you prefer contemporary or traditional church services? Invoking gratitude & elevation (but NOT awe) increased preferences for traditional "high church" worship among Christians. But. Actually taking them to church (yes, really) increased positive feelings, regardless of worship type.

Penn State has halted submission and *acceptance* of NIH grants pending the resolution of the overhead rate cut. This lost time will never be recovered. The economic cost to Pennsylvania is enormous and the cost to humanity immeasurable.

Top 10 ways American Science can survive the 15% indirect cap: 1. Breed special transgenic mice that can run for days in tiny hamster wheel turbines to keep lights on. 2. Get athletic program staff to donate 1% of their salaries to the research thus raising 100 billion dollars a year.

Is your NSF grant on this list? Reach out if so! Ted Cruz released a list of grants flagged for DEI or "neo-Marxist class warfare propaganda" from his Oct. report. NSF is using keywords from that report for their review, though Cruz's list is likely larger. www.commerce.senate.gov/2025/2/cruz-...

The National Press Club just sent out this statement on the White House blocking an AP reporter today: "Today’s action by the White House is a direct attack on press freedom....The role of the press is not to take orders from the government but rather to hold the government accountable."

Shit’s so bad the American Bar Association has made a statement

When you get your Catholic teaching so wrong the pope himself has to issue a correction ☠️

Today I am finalizing peer-reviews of manuscripts and comments to thesis drafts. These are known as TOTOs (Text I Owe To Others). www.raulpacheco.org/2019/12/prio... #RPVSky Surprisingly, I've never written about TOMs and TOTOs in depth. My post is VERY short!

Just got the dreaded email. University of Iowa is halting all NIH grant submissions. Losing a generation of scientists here will send the state backwards. What a travesty.

There's lots I can't control right now but I did create a fun escape room/puzzle box activity as a review for my undergrad social cognition class and watching them race through the puzzles today brought me joy 😍 1/

BREAKING The Trump administration is maintaining a funding freeze at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in defiance of two federal court orders. The ongoing freeze was confirmed by an NIH official and internal correspondence reviewed by Popular Information.

« Final thought: The best “fuck you” to fascists? Thriving. Publish that paper. Build that collaboration. Laugh with labmates. Science outlives dictators—but only if we stay in the fight. »
