No problem. There are probably better books and publications but I am not thinking of them right now.

My sentiments exactly.
I believe humans invented the concept of Hell because our sense of justice leads us to want to believe that the wicked will be punished, if not in this life, then in the next.

It’s a shame he didn’t use his considerable leadership skills as a force for good, instead of evil,

The Guardian is pretty good. The Contrarian on Substack and the Bulwark. Podcasts such as Sisters-in-Law and Fast Politics.
Liz Cheney’s book. “The Death of Expertise” by Tom Nichols.

We have sometimes been a force for good and sometimes for evil, as when the CIA engaged in covert operations that toppled democratically-elected foreign leaders.
Hundreds of thousands of American soldiers have also died defending democracy overseas. Now, we are allied with the bad guys. That’s new.

I want to visit my SIL near Savannah later this spring and am thinking about taking the 12 hour train ride from DC to Savannah, and back.
Air travel is too dangerous as long as Trump, Musk and these other jokers are running everything.

They might succeed in destabilizing the U,S. Military so much that we are vulnerable to attack, either from without or from within.

Exactly. The man has no substance, his only asset appears to have been looking presentable on a weekend television show.

They have to fire everyone who makes them insecure about their abilities and character.

I disagree. Pete Hegseth would have to undergo at least a 100% improvement to even aspire to mediocrity.
He is straight up trash, and he’s working to resegregate the Joint Chiefs and the Pentagon. He’s absolutely vile, but he’s not mediocre.

They want a return to legal segregation and they want to push women and people of color out of good jobs.
I can’t begin to say how much I despise these supremely evil people.

Other than the sheer illegality and gall of this proposal, what strikes me is the depiction of Trump as a Caesar.
If he resembles any Roman emperor he probably resembles a combination of Nero and Caligula, but his features possess no nobility, His huge head is hideous, and he is pasty white.

Has he pardoned the ones accused of soliciting minors for sex yet? I’m sure that’s coming next.

If it’s evil, and it will hurt ordinary Americans, Republican politicians are for it.
If it’s good, and will help ordinary Americans, Republican politicians are against it.
I have been saying this for years, and I’m damned if it doesn’t hold true on virtually every occasion.

Absolutely. They would be the first in line to crucify Christ again if he came back.

Trump isn’t worth one of Zelensky’s toenails.
Trump is a coward and a traitor, while Zelensky is a true hero in the Churchillian mold, except without Churchill’s manifold flaws.

Trump doesn’t care if many people die, while Elon wants many people, even millions of people, to die.
Elon has described ordinary Americans as anthills in the way of progress who won’t be missed if they die and has called for “an extinction level event.
Elon is a pro-mass murder Bond villain IRL

This is assuming none of them die in shootouts with police, get arrested for soliciting minors, or get caught robbing banks between now and then.

It wasn’t ironic. It wasn’t a joke. It wasn’t countercultural.
It was an endorsement of fascism, Nazism and mass murder. It was actually too much for right wing politicians from France to stomach.

My brother practiced law for 35+ years, and I would describe him as a political moderate who probably voted for as many Republicans as Democrats in his life.
I sent him your first book and he absolutely loved it. Wish I could send him your second — he died of cancer on Nov. 19. He also hated Trump.

A big reason for that has been mainstream media outlets that are owned by super rich Republicans,
The reporters for these outlets have become so schooled in that double-standard that it is second nature for them to show great deference to Republicans while raking Democrats over the coals.

I had measles as a child, along with mumps, chickenpox and pinkeye.
Since I was born in 1954, I don’t think I was ever vaccinated against measles. I will ask my PCP if she thinks I need the Measles vaccine.

Did they beat him with flagpoles? Spray him with bear spray? Cause him to have a heart attack? Trap him in a door and crush him in it?
They asked him to give an account of what he is doing for them.

I have never resented the very wealthy, but I deeply resent politicians, usually Republican politicians, who want to give more advantages to people who already have all the advantages.
My tax dollars should not go to supporting people who don’t need help.

And many of those “good Germans” died because they supported Hitler, who wanted to take as many of his followers with him as possible when it became clear that he was losing the war.

My favorite Rickman performances were not his memorable villains, but as Jamie in “Truly Madly Deeply,” and as Colonel Brandon in “Sense and Sensibility.”
I had a mad crush on that beautiful man, mensch and terrific actor. RIP.

Being an antivaxxer is a luxury people have not yet realized they cannot afford anymore.
Vaccination programs have been the victim of their own success. People are no longer frightened enough of losing their children to terrible diseases, or of dying themselves. Human stupidity is boundless.

I really like “The Atlantic,” but cancelled my subscription after one year because I found I wasn’t reading it enough to justify spending the money.
At this point, I’m too distracted to do much serious reading. I hope that changes at some point.

I should be angry at this guy, but I am just sad that people are so dumb that they voted for a man who wouldn’t pour bilge water on them if they were on fire.
Why do people have to learn the flipping hard way?

The longer Republicans wait to stand up to Trump, the worse it will be for them.
Showing weakness before a bully only makes him worse. Once they give their power away, they will never get it back.
