"Red rotten to the core" - apparently 😀 Enjoy music, and I have an interest in how I play guitar after a 20-year playing gap, the verdict? Badly, but improvement is imminent.

Quite unnerving watching quite how many Conservative frontbenchers have decided to leap on 'actually the 2022 inquiry that happened under us wasn't sufficient. We've just discovered this now'. Terrible for their own self-interest as well as being ridiculous.

One issue with X which I’m surprised doesn’t attract more scrutiny and scepticism when users read posts, is that blue tick accounts can be monetised. There is a financial incentive to post the most inflammatory views possible. I’m not convinced people even believe what they write anymore.

"oh, you like that band? name three of their songs!" buddy thats not how it works. the bands name their own songs

Now there's a thought.

I just love this! One of those ideas that, in hindsight, was such an obvious thing to do, but no one thought to do it.

I've just doubled my monthly subscription to Wikipedia. I was donating way before all this idiocy from Musk, but now it's important to show more support to Wikipedia.

In 1659, the the Puritans in Massachusetts enacted a law that declared that Christmas was sacrilege and exchanging of gifts, greetings, and wearing fine clothing on that day was Satanic. Anyone caught celebrating was fined 5 shillings. (About 5 days wages.) The "War on Christmas" was an inside job.

And people wonder why I want to move abroad. This is typical weather in Scotland.

NEW: Israel 'committed and is committing genocide' in Gaza, a major new report from Amnesty International has concluded. It concludes that Israel has 'forcibly displaced 90% of Gaza’s 2.2 million inhabitants' using methods which have exposed them to a 'calculated death'.

My thought for this Tuesday ☕️☕️☕️

Every time I read about banning books, I think of this: Reading a book with a gay character will not make you gay any more than reading a book about Einstein will make you a genius. If you're afraid that books might change someone's thinking, you're not afraid of books — you're afraid of thinking.

😄

Give a man a fish, he'll eat for a day. Teach a man to fish, he'll contribute to the global overdepletion of the ocean. So give him a salad, maybe.

I talk about this endlessly in my book....how our current electoral system is NOT fit for purpose @petergeoghegan.bsky.social explains more re donations Jeez Labour...tighten up these horrors....

On the one hand I would love the immortality that comes with being a vampire, but on the other hand what good is immortality if you can’t have garlic bread?

Asked by Sky News whether his fellow Reform MP previously being jailed for repeatedly kicking his girlfriend, and then subsequently lying to voters about it, should be grounds for his expulsion from the party, Nigel Farage replies that "I've got a million followers on TikTok" and storms off

1. You think you’ve seen it all. You really have not. I’m a hard-bitten journalist of 39 years’ standing, but details of this story made me shout, weep and slap my head. This week’s column + 🧵 www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

NEW: The majority of people in the UK say Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu should be arrested if he steps foot on British soil, a poll has shown.

This is a mushroom? Wow.

Don't try to explain

1. Consent in our pseudo-democracies is strained at the best of times, but it hangs on the belief that there is some kind of justice: through inquiries, tribunals, sometimes even the law, powerful people who commit crimes against us will one day be held to account. But what if this no longer works?🧵

Not a day goes by without this being relevant. Political journalist suddenly remembers how to do political journalism youtu.be/Bg5OFlsK3ns?...

The funny thing is I couldn't stand Techno back in the day, but this stuff is great!

Do you remember these same people’s reaction any time a Labour shadow minister supported a junior doctors’ picket? “When WE do it, it’s patriotic…”

Could not have put it any better
