New Halo story to end your week. Farewell, Nysa 😔🙏

The fate of the Avery J. Johnson Academy hangs in the balance as the Banished invasion begins. 📗 aka.ms/AcademyBattle2 📁 aka.ms/AcademyBattle2PDF 🔊 aka.ms/AcademyBattle2Audio

not been very active on here lately so here are some cat pics 👀🐈‍⬛

Some super exciting news this issue! Waypoint Chronicles will be released as a print anthology book (with an extra TEN short stories added) next year. And we're lifting the lid on when Edge of Dawn is set... 👀

Canon Fodder returns with a new Waypoint Chronicle anthology novel announcement, a blurb reveal for Kelly Gay's next highly anticipated novel Halo: Edge of Dawn, and more fanciful fiction! ✨ aka.ms/CanonFodder163

Ah, he never disappoints.

Special delivery from Vault-Tec today, been waiting a whole year for this!

A lovely thread on genAI and game design from the ever-phenomenal @lizardengland.bsky.social

With the rampant and rising transphobia in America, I just want to be extremely clear that transphobes deserve absolutely nothing. Trans people deserve to live freely and safely and anyone who thinks, speaks or acts against trans people is not worthy of breathing. May transphobes perish

While I haven't really been gelling with the combat, there isn't so much as a single frame of NEVA that doesn't make me want to get back to painting. This game is utterly beautiful—nobody does it quite like Nomada Studio.

One second from every scene in Garth Marenghi’s Darkplace.

Playing through shorter games over the weekend after hoovering up a bunch on sale. Completed 'Nobody Wants To Die' in two sittings, a solid seven hours that immerses you in a science fiction noir short story. Fantastic concepts, stunning visuals, enjoyable puzzles—really enjoyed my time with this!

HALO: EMPTY THRONE released today! This is the fourth Halo novel I've had the pleasure of working on, and this one is an absolute beast—characters and story threads many years in the making come to a head while laying foundations for the future. 📖 aka.ms/EmptyThrone

Six hours in and having an absolutely fantastic time with Avowed—combat is really fun, exploration of the world feels great, it's wonderfully vibrant, and I'm always here for Obsidian's storytelling charm.

I miss video game manuals so much. Opening the case to get That New Game Smell™, the artistry and lore put into these little bits and bobs was something I always really loved and appreciated. A real shame this was such an early casualty of the push towards digital.

A long time ago, games used to come with manuals. The prologue of Max Payne.

Few things in life are better than becoming utterly enraptured by a piece of art and feeling it creatively searing itself into your soul. That’s been Twin Peaks for me this month.

they should invent unprecedented times that are good

Long version: Games have slid so far into the tech sector that corporate leadership forgets that they're art. When you strip the human element out of your storytelling mechanisms, the humans who consume it won't enjoy it. You lose the bet. Short version: aaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Done nothing but engross myself in Twin Peaks over the last three days. I remember watching the first season when I was very young but never saw the second—feels very special to come back to it now, fully equipped to appreciate not just its brilliance but more importantly David Lynch's heart.

A little motivation for your Sunday from David Lynch 🤍

Respectfully & from the bottom of my heart, if you think anything in the world could justify this, you’re a monster or an idiot or some impressive combination of both.

One thing about David Lynch is that he was popular on social media beyond the fact of his incredible output, but because he staunchly associated creating art with something tremendously positive and life-giving, and believed suffering stifled ingenuity. He believed making art is an act of love.

We should never forget David Lynch’s own words about this

In 2021, I had the pleasure of working on Halo as part of the incredible Community Team. Next week, after three amazing years, that great journey ends and a new one begins as I join the Halo Studios Franchise Team. See you in Seattle! 💚💙

2015 - when i realized that thru the power of art, i could give master chief many tiny fluffy dogs #halo #halofanart

Four all-time favourites 👀

Alan Wake's American Nightmare was cool for what it was, I enjoyed it as something of a coda and side story to the first game. That said, replaying the same three levels three times over? Definitely ended up dragging my feet through to the end by the third reset loop. Onto Alan Wake II at last!

Discomfort is not harm. Internalize that. Discomfort is not harm, and if you're made uncomfortable by the work of a total stranger who does not know you exist, you can just process on your own and move on. You do not need to make it anyone's "fault" and no one needs to be "held accountable" for it.

Having a coffee with many lovely friends, on and off camera, in 2024 ❤️. Happy New Year, everyone ✨✨✨. Looking forward to 2025 ☕️.

Finished up Alan Wake after I was too chicken to play through it over thirteen years ago. Loved this game, can easily see why it became a cult classic—the way they evolved some of the gameplay elements in the special episodes was fantastic! Onto Alan Wake's American Nightmare.

An excerpt from a short story released back in February this year celebrating the seventh birthday of Halo Wars 2. This part in particular from Captain Cutter's perspective as a man almost thirty years out of time was a joy to write—almost as much of a as making the UNSC Spirit of Fire's cat canon.

This one's a bit abstract and there's no way to not sound ridiculous describing it... but there's a bit near the end of GRIS where a big sea monster representing grief is chasing you and you get rescued by a pink turtle as the music absolutely soars. That is *the* example that comes to mind for me.

Arbiter concept art I did from the time I worked on Halo. I miss that chunky PS brush i used to sketch the Master chief.
