How did you respond when former President Jimmy Carter criticized ~your~ policies? How does rightwing media which dominates our public space respond to criticisms of any Republican policies?
Nobody cares what moderate Rs or former presidents think.

I worked for a chiro who didn’t believe in the moon landing but did believe that a raw fruit diet would keep him alive forever. Literally forever because of Methuselah.

I don’t think Republicans are the only gun owners. I think a lot of them are pretty comfortable with police shooting people if they are convinced those people are bad. The “rise up against government tyranny” gun owners seem to be placid when the government shoots Black people.

USians have a lot of guns but they are also easily manipulated into believing who those guns should be used against. The amount of “yeah, well, he had it coming” on any local FB group indicates we are far from the kind of unifying solidarity against the fascists.

Wikipedia is the best because of the sourcing and links. It is much more intuitive than AI, as evidenced by the AI preface always being that you have to learn how to ask it questions and verify it's veracity. Useless!

Eh, Google search used to be a lot better before it was taken over by Gemini and SEO. Part of the reason the internet has gotten a lot less fun is the loss of finding weird shit from weird google searches.

How many ppl were fired because of your actions? Have those ppl gotten employed since you targeted them? What positions did the individuals hold who you targeted? Were they public or private sector employees? Do they work with the public? Were their perceived violations about race, gender, ability?

This entire thread is based on his hurt feelings that some online rando said not to use the word lunatic so somehow that means the entire project of the Democratic Party is language policing.

We talk a lot about US, German, Japanese war crimes. But these kids have never heard of the Turkish genocide of Armenian people. Never heard of Canadian troops doing anything. It is important for young people to learn that IHL developed in a global context.
Why is history making you so angry?

All of those events you listed take place after the atrocities of WWI. So not germane to the discussion we were having about the 3rd Geneva Convention.
Do you think we didn't talk about other war crimes during a discussion about the origins of international humanitarian law?
comment in response to
post
Again, no. The actions of the Canadians was certainly cited as part of the 3rd Geneva Convention but it was reductive to say it was "the reason."
Why are you incapable of accepting that Canadian soldiers committed war crimes? They put live grenades in the pockets of wounded soldiers.

The announcers said “the gloves are off” and we thought they were being facetious.

I do. College kids are the same age/older as WWI soldiers and also have a relatively myopic view of the world. They don’t have a sense that any place other than the US has ever been the imperial bad guy or that Canada has ever been anything other than our weak neighbor. Teaching WWI is important.
comment in response to

I admit I was been a bit cheeky on this platform in saying the 3rd Convention was created because the Canadians. Most US college students think of Canadians as weak so reading about the Conventions and seeing them as aggressive is interesting. I shouldn’t have said “created because” on here.

The 3rd Geneva Conventions were written largely in response to the Canadians actions during WWI. I’m teaching International Law this semester and it was a fun day when students learned Canadians could be bad guys.

Im not saying we don’t commit war crimes because we definitely do. But this “Canadians are too polite to do anything but say ‘soory’” is ahistorical.
comment in response to

Canadian WWI soldiers didn’t commit war crimes just to have their sports guys capitulate in advance. Canadians didn’t engage in the Christmas Truce; they sure as hell would boo an enemy’s anthem.

I can’t wait to cuss my sister all the way out. I did in 2016 and we didn’t speak until 2021. Haven’t really seen her much since but according to my dad, she’s already frustrated with Trump. Almost worth it to have some kind of family gathering just to scream at her.

No, no. Dems just need very specific and nuanced messaging. That’s what we need to counter mass deportations now which actually means pathways to citizenship for immigrants.
Damn it Dems. Why can’t you use a catch phrase that secretly signals the exact opposite thing?

Agree. This same town has ISIS-style parades of vehicles w Trump flags. School board meetings are filled with people who have rabid hatred toward teachers even though, again the teachers are from the community. The rwnj Christians are muscling the ppl who believe differently from the public square.

I recall feeling this at the beginning of the Mama Bears for Liberty stuff a few years ago. I went to public school in a rural conservative community & knew my teachers. I saw them at church, Girl Scouts, or town events. They weren’t seen as dangerous agenda groomers. These ppl need to go outside.

I think people have misread Trump’s vanity. I think during the 1st admin, the “co-President” w Bannon thing bothered him because he thought he was smarter than Bannon. Now, he get to outsource the project of completely destroying this country while enriching himself. Nice little retirement gig.
