I really think that what many people are asking is: Who is going to deliver me? Who will get me out of all of this? They know people are protesting. They either don't believe it will make a difference, don't like the tactic and ALSO they don't want to join in. Conciergification in action.

ppl getting angry at this but he's talking alliances and he's 100% right- you cannot trust a country where every 4 yrs the foreign policy does a complete 180 & tears up treaties and reneges on deals and withholds payments because some sheep farmers in Wisconsin think too many black women have jobs

Soooo.... run yourself ragged in order to... build a thing that will make you irrelevant?

Everyone Hates Elon takes credit for “Swasticar” guerrilla poster campaign on London bus stops. A spokesman said: “Musk has used his vast wealth to amplify the far right in Europe. He should spend more time with his 13 kids and less spreading racism. We don't want his cars or his fascist politics.”

😵😵‍💫😳

House Rs just passed the budget resolution, the first step in their process to enact a bill that'd kick millions off Medicaid & cut SNAP down to just $1.60 per person per meal on avg while cutting taxes for the top 0.1% by $278k - all while increasing the debt 🧵on what's to come and WHERE TO FIGHT

My Lyft driver pulled up Saturday in a filthy-dirty Tesla. The interior floor was littered with trash. On the back of the passenger seat hung a laminated sheet of paper w/ topics he likes to discuss & a QR code to his Space Colonization "blog site." Joe Rogan blasting. Fun ride. Delightful.

The headline that 21 DOGE staffers have resigned is a little misleading. These were employees of the United States Digital Service, which existed pre-administration and was absorbed into Musk’s team. These aren’t the young idiots; these are actual civil servants.

I wouldn’t think “moved to root out diversity initiatives” is a useful phrase for journalism at all, but using it as a euphemism for a purge of high ranking black officers is downright Orwellian.

There’s something happening in this country.

I heard the NEA is only considering proposals related to 1776 & the USA’s 250th birthday & I was feeling intensely patriotic, so I’m printing these really big posters inspired *directly* by the Founding Fathers The cut was carved from the masthead of a 19th century newspaper

“the United States is not a startup. The federal government exists to do all of the things that are definitionally not profitable, that serve the public good rather than protect investor profits. (The vast majority of startups also fail, something the United States cannot afford to do.)”

NOTICE THE COMMON THREAD?: Elections keep going Deep State, we have to find a workaround; the constitution is being gamed by "legacy media"/Deep State, so we need to give "power of the purse" to Elon. The solution is always the same. Elon needs to be in charge of it.

It's not lost on me that the two Democratic electeds talking consistently to regular people right now are AOC and Jasmine Crockett. Dassit.

NO KINGS. I like it. Two words. Emotion and edge. LFG.

Ok, but real talk? The sort of low-engagement persuadable Trump voter you need to flip is not going to sit through a serious policy argument, and would not understand it if they did. “He’s calling himself a king” they can understand. So run with it.

This is incredible reporting that must shock the conscience of each and every one of us.

I don't know who needs to hear this, but all your Luigiposting is gonna do is get you put on a list. I'll know you're actually getting serious about this situation when you start posting about taking down Tesla sales, and triggering Elon's margin calls to create a death spiral in the stock.

A good moment to remember the Russia thing was always real. Trump's goal is to help Russia and Putin, always has been. He's trying to throw our democratic allies under the bus and America as well. Again, the Russia thing was always real.

more and more these days, I find myself thinking that you can accept the discipline of your political goals or you can accept the discipline of your resentments.

jfc please stop, just stop doing this. stop thinking of LLMs as anything more than predictive text bolted on to a search engine. and this betrays either a deep misunderstanding of what LLMs are, or a deep disrespect for university graduates

This is really valid—for all the talk about how ppl should leave Substack, it shouldn't feel like walking away from a campfire and into the cold.

I so admire you for having the courage to tackle this subject, @grubreport.bsky.social ! 💛

See here's how to do a headline. fortune.com/2025/02/13/e...

It’s almost like “ai” is a massive scheme to devalue, and destabilize labor while shifting power back into the hands of corporations.

THEY ARE DEFUNDING MEDICAID AND BUYING CYBERTRUCKS WITH THE MONEY. Dems stop saying "uh he promised he would lower the cost of living" and take the layup

Ahem... good list for knowing when your follows are being farmed:

I would love to see all the “women can be strong” girlies making bank on Nike commercials and magazine covers say literally one thing to stand up for their colleagues on this! buttondown.com/tested/archi...

So about Substack being a nazi bar…

It's important to remember that any principled effort to remove fraud from America's public life would start with an all-out push to prosecute and imprison Elon Musk. There is no bigger fraudster alive today.

⚠️ BREAKING: U.S. 🇺🇸 reports 5.012 million new COVID-19 cases in a single week, with 716,000 daily infections. Currently, 1 in every 67 Americans is infected with COVID-19. Transmission rates are now higher than at any point during 61.0% of the pandemic.

This is it. This is the take.

I've watched this ad like a bunch more & as someone whose feet do not fit into Nike;s, the other striking to me thing about the ad is the bodies. If you don't know there's a big push for early 2000s disordered eating bodies right now. The MUSCLES on these women is unreal in the most positive way

saying "go birds" but just rooting for birds in general, hope they're having fun and not catching that flu

What is my answer for a Constitutional crisis that tears at the heart of the republic? The same answer that Lincoln had for the one he faced: Set a boundary, call the bluff, and punish them for trying.

Meta illegaly downloaded 80+ terabytes of books from LibGen, Anna's Archive, and Z-library to train their AI models. In 2010, Aaron Swartz downloaded only 70 GBs of articles from JSTOR (0.0875% of Meta). Faced $1 million in fine and 35 years in jail. Took his own life in 2013.

This is the best thing I've read all week. Another reminder (to myself!) that community, not doomscrolling, is the way we get through these myriad challenges.

We just launched a 16TB archive of every dataset that has been available on data.gov since November. This will be updated day by day as new datasets appear. It can be freely copied, and we're sharing the code behind it to help others make their own archives of data they depend on.

I'm so over these giggly "the boys are fighting, they'll destroy each other soon enough" takes. No, they won't. They'll fight each other AND they'll break everything. They are pulling off a coup in real-time. They're gleeful and rapacious. The rest is noise. www.wsj.com/politics/pol...

There it is

Harvard Divinity School punished students for having a PRAYER-IN last semester. I absolutely understand why students have decided to change tactics. When you tell people to stop protesting genocide, it absolutely impacts how they respond to your shouts about fascism. Everything is connected.

“We don’t need any more irony-poisoned hot takes or cathartic, irreverent snark. We need to collectively decide what kind of world we actually do want, and what we’re willing to do to achieve it.” Less posting, more doing.

This is what revisionist history looks like, in real time. And this also is why it might appear that archaeologists and historians have to dig deep to discover the existence of powerful women and marginalized groups -- because their legacies are so often erased.

Heyyy @ohheygreat.bsky.social moved off Substack to Ghost (🤩), and her latest newsletter is fantastic! ❤️‍🔥 You know what to do: www.leahreich.com/technology-i...
