Even if you set aside the glaring lack of presidential authority, the independence of the EAC, etc.—Trump claiming the registration form will require proof of citizenship "consistent with 52 U.S.C. 20508(b)(3)" is bananas. That provision literally says the form can't require "formal authentication"!

We will not blindly follow illegal orders because Donald Trump wrote them down on a piece of paper.
Illinois follows the laws of the land – not the decrees of an aspiring king hell bent on disenfranchising millions of voters who deserve to have their voice heard.

Fwiw we know that tax info was illegally shared via wrongful disclosure to DOGE (Elez, Krause, etc.) at Treasury/BFS. We just don't know the full extent of how it was/will be used, especially for adverse determinations, criminal/immigration purposes, etc.

Probably UI data (through both 3(d) and 3(c)) so they can cry fraud and justify withholding funds, but it could also implicate nonpublic Bureau of Labor Statistics data (survey responses, etc.). Either way, it's bad!

It's an awful situation, but what purpose is there in a university accumulating power and money if it won't use them to defend students, faculty, and academic freedom against authoritarian thuggery? Plus there's no reason to assume that caving now will deter this administration—quite the opposite.

...catching and scarfing a mouse one summer night in a scene ripped from the Serengeti, and sitting on Amanda and her keyboard approximately 150 million times. She gave us a lot of love over a long life, and we'll miss her fiercely. 4/4

Her feats in life included escaping from our old building to sun herself in the neighbors' garden, chasing a trespassing tuxedo cat out of our back yard like a bat out of hell, raising the alarm when her roommate suddenly fell ill... 3/4

Julep was sweet, savvy, and elegant, with a ruffle of orange on her chest like a Victorian jabot. Though when it was time for a scratch or a treat, she didn't hesitate to tug your hand to her chin or meow with the force of a klaxon. And she loved to have a seat at the table. 2/4

Confusingly the U.S. Attorney for DC is responsible for prosecuting many local offenses in the District, including violent crimes: www.justice.gov/usao-dc/supe...
The DC (local) AG only prosecutes certain other categories of offenses: oag.dc.gov/about-oag/ou...
