"The people who persuaded me that Republicans are fascist are Republicans. What this tells me is that actions are persuasive in ways words are not. I mention this because a lot of people seem to think that what is needed in this moment is persuasion." www.the-reframe.com/youve-persua...

Rubio's state dept appointee is a white supremacist and a misogynist. I remember not too long ago when a Republican who said this would be disqualified from high profile federal jobs forever.

For the first time, a president will be the majority owner of a publicly traded company. Former SEC officials are concerned that Trump could try to use the agency to go after the foes of his company, which accounts for more than half his fortune.

The only institutions that will try to hold Trump accountable are powerless, while the only ones with the power to punish him will never do it.

Just insane that the left treated the tech industry with increasing hostility just because they undermined organized labor, flouted the regulatory state, and bragged that they were going to get rid of everybody's jobs for a decade straight.

I used to love going to the salad bar but then they put up a sneeze guard and turned it into an echo chamber

This Gulf Fritillary must have been attracted to my yellow shirt since it hung around long enough to get a photo. #butterfly #photography #Georgia

When businesses talk about ending government “overreach” they’re usually talking about screwing their customers over

Americans saw this amazing woman and decided to vote for a convicted felon who wants to give tax cuts to billionaires and will cut Medicare, Social Security, education funding, and housing assistance to pay for it.

81% of white evangelicals voted for Trump; 13% of Black Christians did. 60% of white men voted for Trump; 7% of Black women did. Black Christians – especially women – have always been this nation's moral conscience. Once again we've proven ourselves unworthy of their witness.

Quite the eye opener to start the day.

NEW: Private schools across the South that were established for white children during desegregation are now benefiting from tens of millions in taxpayer dollars flowing from rapidly expanding voucher-style programs, a @propublica analysis found. www.propublica.org/article/segr...

Not much fall color at our Georgia property. Still, the sweet gum and persimmon leaves provide brief flashes of blazing red.🌱

There is no Democratic margin of victory so great that the press will declare it a mandate and there is no Republican victory so narrow that they won't.

Hello friendos Your librarian here with today's library tip Check out both the Libby and Hoopla app. Both offer ebooks and e-audiobooks. You don't need a Kindle to use them, you can read or listen on your phone, computer, and are compatible with Apple Carplay and Android Auto.

Trump is now < 50%, and leads Harris < 2%. This election was extremely close. That margin will have enormous consequences. But it’s small enough that instead of debating which vulnerable groups and standards of decency Dems should abandon, they could just focus on how to better defend both.

All three branches of government are now controlled by a rapist who campaigned on purging the country of nonwhite immigrants and driving trans people out of public life, supported by a Nazi billionaire, I think maybe you can ease off the Has Woke Gone Too Far beat for a while

Preserve your damned peace. It's ludicrous to think that your "engagement" on social media with nazis and rightwingers is some sort of actual "battle of ideas." Please get over yourselves. LOL.

“The online world has become so hostile to users that Bluesky’s pitch of ‘here is a straightforward feed of text-based user-generated posts that we promise not to mess with’ is revelatory.” — @bcmerchant.bsky.social open.substack.com/pub/bloodint...

Here in Zone 9 Florida, "Louis Phillippe" is a rose variety that thrives with little attention. Halfway into November and it's still full of blooms. I've read that it's hardy north to Zone 7, though I can't confirm that. But if you just want a trouble-free rose, this is one to try. 🌱

Hey US Dems: Watch and learn. ("Legislative haka" in NZ.)

“You must give your money to people you find abhorrent or we will put you in prison” is a banger of a free speech policy. Fuck these people.

Trump supporters, when people cut you out of their lives because you support their marginalization and abuse and murder, they aren’t ending your relationship over politics; they’re recognizing that you ended it over politics and are reacting accordingly. Live with your choice.

Two questions you might ask yourself: "What can I do to encourage someone like Don Bacon or Mitch McConnell to stand up to Trump?" "What can I do to increase the likelihood my neighbor will sustain solidarity in face of terror." We've failed those tests so far. THAT'S why we're where we are.

We were more ready for an adjudicated rapist than a qualified woman sounds almost too correct.

The education system in this country has failed so many people individually and that has failed us collectively.

i think that the people interested in recriminations and score settling right now aren’t seriously grappling with the magnitude of what happened and the implications for the rest of our lives. most of us will probably die living in the political order that will emerge out of this election.

“The way to heal bullies is to stop trying to heal bullies. Protect people from bullies instead. The answer to healing bullies is to work for a world that doesn't coddle bullies—in fact to make a world that refuses to accept bullying and minimizes bullies.” www.the-reframe.com/apology-not-...

Trump says that armed migrants have taken over our cities. If so, they’re doing a remarkably good job of maintaining order www.nytimes.com/2024/11/02/u...
