Right, ONLY white male hires can be prima facie free of any suspicion of “DEI”.

Hasn’t it been established that members of Congress can freely blow off subpoenas, not to mention refusing to “respond by February 24”?

Fool.

Does he even know how to start up a chainsaw?

Best comparison I’ve seen here is to Mao Zedong’s Cultural Revolution. Scientists? Correct their thinking by putting them to work in the fields. Or in the present case, drive them to a country that actually values their contributions.

If he wasn’t worth half a trillion dollars nobody would give a fuck. Rightfully.
comment in response to post
Gosh, could this be prosecuted: 'If you don't fight like hell you're not going to have a country anymore’?
comment in response to post
But was the chainsaw running? Or did musk wimp out on the metaphor?

Trump on January 6, 2021, before his thugs attacked Congress at the US Capitol: “If you don't fight like hell you're not going to have a country anymore.” Definitely not prosecutable, as it turned out.

IRS may no longer have enough staff to go after billionaires, but you can be sure they will go after political enemies.

How much is the Secret Service paying to rent all the golf carts, not to mention transportation and accommodations? Maybe DOGE should look into it — IN THE INTEREST OF GOVERNMENT EFFICIENCY.

It wouldn’t take that many flips to flip the whole thing. Yes, please, more backbone.
comment in response to post
It’s been pointed out that elections aren’t a sufficient condition for democracy. Rule of law is also necessary.
comment in response to post
It’s like, you could “save money” if you stopped paying your rent, but there’s a downside.

More take than give, apparently.

Trump translated: Ukraine started it by electing Zelensky instead of a pro-Kremlin Putin stooge. That is, a pro-Putin stooge like Trump.

But will it hold up in the courts? 🙄🙄🙄

The days of isolating Russia might be over but the days of isolating the United States are well under way.

These assholes think all they need to succeed militarily is a tough-guy attitude. Why did past military adventures go wrong, in Vietnam, Afghanistan, Iraq? US leaders weren’t tough or ruthless enough. It’s delusional. Putin is about to defeat the US without “kinetic strikes”, at least not on us.

For example the self-driving-car guy thinks that project was such a smashing success that he feels qualified to revamp air traffic control. Just hire enough smart young engineers and anything is possible. Delusional.

Congressional Republicans could stop Musk if they had any courage whatsoever. They are all responsible.
comment in response to post
Every Republican in Congress is onboard with Musk’s corruption. They are all responsible.
comment in response to post
I’m pretty sure I don’t want the self-driving-cars-that-crash guy in charge of revamping air traffic control.
comment in response to post
Right, the "self-driving cars" guy will come up with a high-tech solution presumably involving AI.
comment in response to post
Wait, is this a parody or did NYT actually find someone to write a straight-faced “news analysis” of Trump’s ludicrous “Canada = 51st state” bullshit?

I really do want to see some diner interviews with the people who must by now be overjoyed with all the greatness.

It’s true that race is often the first thing a person notices about another person. But with awareness of this effect, it doesn’t have to control the way people act toward one another.

Wow, do you think Elon Musk will consent to releasing FEMA money to Kentucky?

It is truly insane to fire “probationary” employees merely because they’ve been in their current jobs for some short period of time. They were presumably hired for their qualifications, and their firing likely has little to do with lack of merit. These positions are understaffed, hard to fill.
comment in response to post
Irreversible damage to the federal government. No one will want to work there. We’re on our own now. Want advice on personal safety and health? We’ve got an AI-powered Internet as resource for our own research. 🙄🙄🙄

Do you think anyone will be able to get an H5N1 vaccine? Not intended as a criticism only as another worry about the new HHS.
comment in response to post
“Ending DEI” is purportedly aimed at ending racial preferences but it’s quickly morphing into an enforced preference for white males. Because apparently whiteness, and only whiteness, is free of racial connotations.
comment in response to post
So probationary federal employees — employees who were hired in the last one or two years (depending on department) and who presumably were hired for their qualifications — are being indiscriminately laid off. Even in departments like FAA that are understaffed? Permanent unrecoverable damage.

These assholes think all it takes to win is a tough attitude, "war fighting" with no holds barred, like a Hollywood idea of what military power is all about. Notice that Putin essentially defeated the United States without firing a shot at us.
comment in response to post
I think the word we’re looking for is “privatization”, outsourcing public functions to private companies, possibly even selling off government resources and real estate in crony deals kind of like what happened in Russia after the fall of the Soviet Union.
