This refers to the R35 MIRA applications. They are reviewed in six panels that have different topic responsibilities. I'd already noted that MRAA did not take place on 2/18. MRAD 2/25 did not occur. MRAB seemingly met 2/6, and MRAF on 2/10. MRAE is pending 3/4 meeting.

seeing several positively glowing undergraduates in the lab today because they received offers from graduate school. Very exciting and very proud of them! 🧪. Despite the 'Endzeitstimmung, remember, this is why we are doing all of this...❤️❤️❤️

So hard to do but I think this is the right decision. I have been seeing how everything we say to defend is getting twisted and turned against us. I am going to personally increase my focus on my trainees and the science.

NIDA has announced it, but all the NIH summer internship programs are likely cancelled. Sorry college students interested in STEM jobs, sorry high school students looking at science 🧪 careers. Trump and Musk are cancelling your futures.

Wondering if your study section cancelled? I update this sheet daily. As of today, 56/124 study sections that should have met since Jan 2, 2025 have "not met as scheduled." docs.google.com/spreadsheets...

If leadership were a meritocracy, more women would be in charge. - women outperform men in education - women outperform men in so-called soft skills - toxic & destructive leaders tend to be men - women more likely to lead democratically & develop subordinates www.forbes.com/sites/tomasp...

More stupid RePORTER tricks. I was looking at Type 5 (noncompeting) Notices of award dates last week to determine if there was a systemic halt. there was not. I re-checked today because of the database delay, sure enough I'm now seeing Type 5 issued after 2/15 and up to 2/22.

"We will have many opportunities to demonstrate our value to Secretary Kennedy in the coming weeks and months." is toadie suck up talk. We are so fucking hosed. The Continuing Crisis, Part V: What the NIH Is Telling Its People | Science | AAAS www.science.org/content/blog...

😖😖😖😣😣 Musk is looking for market for his Optimus/Tesla bot

Trump and Musk aim to push out 75% of federal employees. NIH has a highly trained workforce to perform, review, and support science in all 50 states. This cut will decimate America’s science. Cancer research will drop to a trickle. Talented workers will leave to go abroad. 🧪 #medsky 1/

BREAKING The Trump administration is maintaining a funding freeze at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in defiance of two federal court orders. The ongoing freeze was confirmed by an NIH official and internal correspondence reviewed by Popular Information.

NIH Updates Good news: It appears that at least of the submitted F31 diversity supplements for which the study section had disappeared from eRA commons are reappearing with the original study section. Still uncertain future, but it's a step. 1/2

The Trump NIH is banning hires of new students and postdocs. This is devastating for NIH research and will result in a lost generation of researchers at the institution. Heard from a applicant today: "A lot of people are banking their entire careers on the [NIH student programs]..." #NIH 🧪 1/

"It takes years to build a science lab." New post from us. "The long timelines to build up a team... make science research work different than many parts of the private sector." Science is hard to build but easy to break. The uncertainty is right now breaking cancer research. 🧪

So, how are ppl handling budget for upcoming NIH grant? 😣

We are pleased to announce that science from seven Prostate Cancer Clinical Trials Consortium (PCCTC) studies will be presented at the 2025 ASCO Genitourinary Cancers Symposium later this week.

Trainees who applied for an NIH diversity fellowship whose applications were withdrawn/not being reviewed, there's a NYTimes reporter who wants to talk, especially interested in applicants with disabilities. DM me & I'll put you in touch, will keep all contact confidential. Please amplify

Made some slides for scientists to talk about what's been happening & what we should do next. There are probably many people better qualified than me to talk about these issues. If that's you, please, please, please consider holding some virtual advocacy training sessions for researchers this week.

If you are an NIH funded researcher at UCSF, the White House is quoting your colleague to tell the world everything will be just fine. Please make sure to thank him for easing your fears.

It takes a community of scientists to make real advances - from foundational basic discoveries to translation and eventually clinical testing and implementation. NIH and NIH support is the crown jewel of US science and needs to be preserved.

Helpful table to determine how much your University or health system is set to lose if the NIH indirect cap is suddenly lowered to 15%. For SJSU it is $374k which is on the smaller end but devastating considering our other budget issues. datawrapper.dwcdn.net/l0ZqA/8/
