BRB. Gotta buy a tractor.

Worst. Episode. EVER.

Folks: I am NOT affiliated with the group that is using my name to support an economic boycott. Please spread this post, if you would.

looking back, AOL had it right. 30 hours of internet per month was the right amount.

Just saw a post screenshotting this & saying they’d unfollowed me over it. Some Dems are responding well, but some aren’t and the base is clearly mad about it. There *will* be primary challenges, and just like AOC in 2018, a few of them will be successful. So … sorry for saying that out loud?

I have work to do but I'm distracted by watching US scientific progress & leadership being irreversibly undermined because a few unelected malcontents are penalizing researchers for following legal requirements set out by congressional orders to augment basic research with benefits to society.

Big fan of DuckDuckGo. I haven’t used Google to ‘google’ things in years.

Pete's here

You are not powerless, and he is not unstoppable. Look at, and learn from, the funding freeze and how quickly he was forced to surrender.

I feel like we remove power from amazon by NOT TALKING ABOUT AMAZON. Mention the library. Mention the indie bookseller. Mention the direct stores. LINK to the publisher or the direct store or the author website. You don’t even have to bring up Amazon or link to them.

An important announcement from the Governor of Illinois.

If you can, you should buy an EV right now. Especially one that can provide backup power. Thats all Rivians, Kias, and Hyundais, the Leaf, the ID4, the Lightning, and a few others. No Teslas or Lucids except the CT. I doubt there are a lot of cybertruck buyers here, though.

the definition of a “competent government” is “one you don’t have to think about all the time”

"Donald Trump has always fantasized about a deep state inside of government that opposes him, something that didn’t exist. Now, he is well on the way to creating one." Believe it or not, this piece by @joycewhitevance.bsky.social will actually give you hope: joycevance.substack.com/p/how-to-pus...

I think I'm going to have to log off of the internet for a bit before the news cycle breaks my brain entirely. Hundreds of millennia of human evolution have not provided us the cognitive tools required to process this level of administrative chaos.

remember stuff like this when they tell you that diversity means a lowering of standards

What the president has tried to do in the last 24 hours is illegal. His actions threatened millions of Illinoisans' access to health care, food, and even fuel to heat their homes. I will stay vigilant in defense of IL because if you come for my people, you come through me.

If you're struggling financially due to government fuckery or for any reason really and you need infant formula talk to your pediatrician we can hook you up and don't like to ask questions.

Wait. This is how the White House is doing things? Screenshots of social media posts as official releases?

I'm not teaching my grad course 'Civil Resistance: How It Works' this semester. But here is an abridged version of the course schedule, readings, and films I used the last time I taught it (in 2022). Just in case it's useful. drive.google.com/file/d/14RRJ...

Instead of giving us Greenland, could Denmark adopt us? Could Canada make us the 11th province?

Remember when we were worried that @govpritzker.illinois.gov would be ‘just another billionaire’ and then he turned out to be a pretty great, outspoken leader and defender of ALL people? Thank you for for standing firm and speaking out.

Concerns about supply issues during the pandemic made me make some really great changes, like TP and laundry sheets that magically arrive at my house with a LOT less plastic than their predecessors. I look forward to the new products I find by shifting away from Target.

One of my favorite things I’ve picked up lately is adding @hcrichardson.bsky.social’s podcast version of Letters from an American to my morning. I end up catching it 2 days late, but her insights and the things she chooses not to say are so much clearer to me in this format.

I have built a lot of my habits around Target. They have done so well on so many fronts, but slashing DEI is unacceptable. They’re not even trying to say they’re still committed, just measuring differently, like McDonald’s. Guess it’s more Costco-sized shopping for me.

The Trump Administration’s hiring freeze has led the National Parks Service to cancel job offers for seasonal employees. We are concerned this could leave our parks understaffed during the busy summer season, which sees over 100 million visitors annually.

Trump II has begun. Many people are asking: “What can I do now?” Here are 10 recommendations. Please let me know your thoughts, and if you have anything else you'd like to add to the list.

Somebody yelled at me for posting about Ganymede instead of /the state of things/ last night. I know we’re (almost) all on the same page here, but a Bluesky without cute cats, science facts, and dumb jokes would be bad for everyone.

One of my favorite restaurants to work from has more or less said 'come use us as your third place, your coworking space, your body-doubling office - we have food and drinks and beer!' and I love it. You order from a QR code, things come to your table, and nobody bothers you otherwise.

Really wish Apple Fitness+ Mindful Cooldown could count toward Mindfulness minutes.

Anyone else think @complexly.bsky.social every time Perplexity AI is mentioned and rhink ‘oh, Hank and John would be perfectly reasonable new guardians of TikTok!’ and then get disappointed when they realize their mistake? Only me? Sounds right.

NOW: More than 98% of #Costco shareholders have just rejected an anti-DEI measure The attempt to force Costco to audit their #DEI work was by an anti-inclusion lobby group: "The proponent's broader agenda is not reducing risk for the Company but abolition of diversity initiatives." - Costco Board

If you want to read a new book coming out but don't want to buy it, a great thing you can do is ask your local library to order it. The more requests they get, the more likely they are to acquire it and then lots of people will get to read it who othewise wouldn't.

The second toughest part about trying to schedule headshots is that there are infinite things I could wear. Any suggestions?

if you'd told me in 1995 that a woman singer-songwriter would believe vaccines magnetized your blood and ham cured measles, i 100% would've picked jewel

No lies told in this headline.
