People pay into Social Security all of their work lives, now it's 6.2% of your wages up to $176,100. Once you hit the mark of $176.1K per year, they now longer take out SS taxes. If there wasn't that maximum and people could pay 6.2% of everything, they earn a year, SS would remain solvent. Forever!
