I don't think I ever ask my students what they want to be when they grow up. It's still all around us though bc many of them talk about it.

I promised myself I wouldn’t become the old person who asks kids stuff like this. 😂😂 it takes A Lot of work not to do it. Like a spirit comes over you that says, “and so do you have a little friend at school?!” You must resist.

*SCREAMS INTO THE VOID*

It’s so weird how we’re all just working like this is still a normal country.

This is scary as shit. The part about Indiana University erasing his existence entirely from their system is particularly chilling. www.wired.com/story/cybers...

we had a self-directed teacher work day today. which means we didn't have to sit in meetings, we could actually do work. it's the first one we've had since august. which says a lot about our profession.

Uncle Munk weekend advice: Slow down. The most important thing to get done this weekend is taking care of you. Spend a few extra minutes on you. Call your friend you've been meaning to call. Sit outside in the sun. Go to that coffee shop you keep passing by. Life ain't what you do it's what you feel

Shout out to my editor who let me cook.

Students are being harassed on/near campus by ICE (Fuck ICE) and faculty are like “let’s host a panel on the implications of ICE aggressions on students and then let’s publish a paper.” PROTECT YOUR STUDENTS. DEMAND ADMIN PROTECTS THEM. #resist #academicsky

I find it strange that some people think EOs are the final word on anything. They aren't.

There is literally no ethical use of genAI. 🔥 It's built on theft. 🔥 It consumes vast environmental resources. 🔥 It consumes vast financial resources to support it. No company currently touting their "ethical" genAI has attempted to address all three. Once they do then MAYBE a discussion begins.

"A terrified young student, snatched off the street by a masked police force taken thousands of miles across the country without anyone knowing. It is as flatly authoritarian as anything we have ever seen in this country," says Chris Hayes on Tufts student Rumeysa Ozturk's detention.

@marcusluther.bsky.social hi! I read your new blog post and I’m reporting that I like that format!!

MAN Case put his foot in this shit. and having MJB & Foxy made this unforgettable

I'm ONLY eating square cut pizza.

The fact that even after these losses they are still the richest people in the world reveals that they would also survive paying higher taxes

Defend the liberty of a stranger as you would defend your own, or that of a loved one, because that is what's actually on the table—whether we are a society that will sit still as our neighbors are snatched in the night, and disappeared into darkness, or a society that will fight for each other.

Let's be really really clear. The Trump admin chose a Palestinian activist as the target of its first lawless political detention precisely BECAUSE they believe that will split the opposition. If you shrug at the abduction of Mahmoud Khalil, or worse, cheer it on, you're following Trump's script.

Agencies from Social Security to the IRS store sensitive data on millions of Americans. Here's what the government knows about us – and what's at risk as DOGE seeks access to the data.

There was a lot of #AcademicFreedom, good scholarship, and independent thought in German universities before Hitler. After Hitler had risen to power, many academics fled the country. Some resisted the Nazi regime and were persecuted. Most adapted to a new situation. Here are some examples. 1/n

Ella Baker is your favorite organizer's favorite organizer.

It would be great to have a downloadable well-researched zine or handout called something like "Better Than A Tesla" - that offers people suggestions for better EV's to purchase than Tesla. Why not educate folks about better consumer choices while picketing?

I keep posting this because universities keep capitulating. “In rushing to comply with Trump’s executive actions, universities support a segregationist agenda” www.insidehighered.com/opinion/view...

you’re fired. wait you’re rehired. email us a list of things you’ve done today wait forget it you’re fired again. come back your job was important. you’re fired. or hired. come in to the office. wait the office has no computers go home. we are the department of government efficiency.

When I was a young pup I was obsessed with the graffiti frm the May 1968 Paris protests and the one that has been echoing in my head all week is "you will die of comfort"

Obviously this isn’t true but “war as self improvement” is such a stupid sentiment that is common on the losers of the online right bsky.app/profile/jame...

Maybe it was a real goofy idea to dismantle entire DEI programs over the threat of pulling federal funding considering he’s going to just keep coming up with other reasons.

I had a negative interaction with someone who doesn’t work at my school yesterday and this is just a brief PSA for anyone visiting a school. Part 1 www.tiktok.com/t/ZT2mwm6yQ/

Breaking News: Gene Hackman, the two-time Oscar winner who gave nuanced performances in films like “The French Connection” and “Unforgiven,” died at 95. nyti.ms/4h8iyJa

16,000 people died from the flu this year. It was the worst flu season in 15 years. Now Trump & company are helping ensure we're not ready to keep our seniors safe next year. www.cnbc.com/amp/2025/02/26/fda-cancels-vaccine-advisory-meeting-for-choosing-flu-shots.html

Man millions of us are really gonna die in all kinds of old and new and interesting ways

Every person I know is currently either like "I need a job so badly!!!" or "My job is destroying my mind and body!!!"

Bravo to @thereadingzone.bsky.social for such an excellent 🧵

I've worked for years with survivors of intimate partner violence (both as a job and as a volunteer since 1991). Some of the white and white-adjacent columnists & op-ed people in the U.S. sound like abusers do when they tell their victims that they got hit because they pushed them too far.

How much Elon Musk makes from the government a day: $8 million. How much a senior on Social Security gets a day: $65 Guess which budget Musk and Trump want to cut?

Tesla, whose chief executive, Elon Musk, has been advising President Trump on how to cut government spending, is likely to receive a lucrative contract to supply armored versions of its Cybertruck pickup to the State Department, according to public documents.
