Fired federal workers share the crucial jobs no longer being done Six people describe what they were doing to benefit public health, safety and the environment www.sciencenews.org/article/fire...

This is the most wretched campaign of deliberate, explicit persecution the United States has perpetrated against a minority group in decades. Many of the most important people in politics and journalism are busying themselves trying to figure out how little to say or do about it.

Hey Android users! 2FA on Android is fixed!! Make sure to swipe away the app and make it restart before trying it out! 😊

after hearing from several of you last night, i think i have a general structure for this. it's subject to change based on feedback, but if you're a current, fired, or currently-being-litigated federal worker, i want to hear from you. here are the details.

btw, i will tell you this - i have been talking to people all day, and the media is missing, whether intentionally or not, how absolutely, volcanically angry the people who have been fired are, not because they lost their jobs, but because their jobs matter, *to us*

So. It has officially happened. I have been officially let go from my position at CDC. I wasn’t a probationary employee. I had stellar performance reviews every year. I’ll be ok. But please understand that many worked HARD to get into these positions and were doing great public health work.

In a small trial, nearly half of pancreatic cancer patients who received an mRNA vaccine had no signs of relapse after three years. Dr. Vinod Balachandran from @mskcancercenter.bsky.social joins us to discuss the results and what they could mean for cancer treatment.

THIS IS HUGE! Researchers at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center say results of a Phase I trial of an mRNA vaccine aimed at preventing pancreatic cancer show promise. The vaccine PREVENTED the cancer from coming back in patients who had already received treatment for MORE THAN three years. 🧪🧵⬇️

I don't think people really get how these employee purges are just going to break the culture of public organizations for a very long time.

I think we should have a post office and cool stamps

Keep in mind that the probationary federal employees who are now being fired are NOT just newly hired ones. If a long-term employee is promoted to a higher-level position, such as a supervisory or managerial role, then the employee may be subject to a probationary period for that new position.

I'm seeing a lot of support for fired scientists and environmental professionals, which is great But a lot is phased is "just keep doing your important work," and I need you to know that these are early career people with student loans and no savings, and they need income for food and shelter.

Quietly, my university took down its webpage on diversity (diversity.arizona.edu) and edited its land acknowledgement to remove the clause, "Committed to diversity and inclusion, the University strives..." We need Universities to stand up for their values, not comply in advance 😡

This is a great action.

Putting a face to what you read in the news. Until last Friday, I served our nation working as a Research Ecologist with the US Geological Survey (USGS). As a federal scientist, I provided robust, defensible information to support good decisions in natural resource management.

PMF alumni fill out all the key positions at places like the National Security Council, the State Department, et cetera. Oh, yeah, & two current U.S. Senators. The program exists to recognize talent within the federal government structure and prepare them for essential roles in defense or diplomacy

I have worked with several PMFs. They are the some of the best and brightest civil servants this country has to offer. We are bleeding talent.

BREAKING: Donald Trump issued an executive order tonight aimed at ending several decades-old and highly successful government programs. Among the programs Trump says he's ending: The Federal Executive Boards and the Presidential Management Fellows Program. What do they do, you ask? Key things!

If you are in the Federal space, this may not be allowed. But here is a workaround, you know, just FYSA 🗺️

IMTs are quietly talking about what the current political environment means for this year's wildland fire suppression efforts, but it deserves a larger and more public consideration. 1/

Trump and Musk’s efforts to shrink the government have left the country’s wildland firefighting force unprepared for the approaching wildfire season. One federal employee likened the funding freeze to a “massive sledgehammer” hitting the force.

Most people don't know this but Ancient Rome was fully remote until Julius Caesar implemented a return to office program and well you know what happened next

Federal employees do important work, it turns out. Join the #SaveOurServices Day of Action tomorrow to remind the country.

I… am speechless? 1. Invading Canada isn’t some hypothetical game to entertain. Fuck all the way off & I hope a moose tramples the horse you rode in on. 2. NO. A hostile occupied country would NOT cheerfully vote Democrat, you absolute pylon.

Welp 🤬

I escaped poverty because I am a scientist. And I am a scientist because of the National Science Foundation. A 🧵:

i think it has not sunk in for people, including newspaper headline writers, that "probationary" employees does not just mean like, young novice staffers right out of college, but those who have received promotions in the last year

The locksmith for Yosemite National Park, whose apprenticed under his now-retired predecessor for 4 years, says he was fired by Musk three weeks out from the end of his probationary period. www.instagram.com/p/DGLxMKbyKw...

Want to go visit the national parks this year? Sorry. The reservation system is shut down, EMT personnel are gone, so don't get hurt or lost. No one can clean the bathrooms or cabins, so they'll be closed. Rangers are fired. www.sfchronicle.com/bayarea/arti...

People in tech talk about the idea of a “10x programmer” — someone whose work is worth that of 10 others. I get the impression Musk etc think they can apply it all over the federal workforce but like… there’s no such thing as a 10x ATC navigational aid maintenance worker. Some jobs just need people.

We used to have "smog days" at school in southern California. Days where the smog was so dangerous that we weren't allowed outside for recess or PE

Great map by @WWF_Whales shows migration patterns of whales around the world.

Here's what the entire federal workforce actually looks like. It's mostly doctors, nurses and healthcare workers in VA hospitals, the military, and then everything else.
